There are many untold stories of how HIP HOP has influenced different communities which it came out of. Mainly Black and Latino communities. After reading posts about Dwight York and some of your response, I think that certain stories need to be told. If anyone was living on the Eastcoast during the mid to late 80's to the early 90's, you remember the influx of the Ansaarallah community (we go back to the 70's). The strong stance of the NOI and Nation of Gods and Earths. Hip Hop played the soundtrack to the younger faction of these organizations. Morgan State University, Temple University, Howard, Rutgers University plus other played a vital role, in that these schools had much HIP HOP activity going on while engaging in the business of academics. Many of the flyest shows I saw on college campuses.
People don't want to talk about this beacuse it might alienate some other group of people. The late 80's was a crazy period. Crack cocaine, the crime and violence, AIDS, The Cosby Show, Howard Beach Killings, Virginia Beach riots....plus the music was HOT!!! Next year will be the 20th anniversary of "Eric B. for President". A record that changed this whole world. This movie should be made.

Just kidding... I was actually just thinking this exact same thing, they showed Beat Street on tv this weekend and man did that bring back memories. But as much as I love that movie out of nostalgia, from a cinematic standpoint it was really pretty terrible. So was Krush Groove. Even Wild Style, in all it's raw gritty glory, is a pretty afwul movie too.
So yeah I totally agree with you on this.

Quand j'ouvre ma bouche, ce n'est pas pour rien dire, concentré dans un riffe de guitare, je cherche à décrire, seul ce petit détail peut s'écrire, à travers cette chanson qui cherche à te séduire.
It could influence this new generation to learn that real hip-hop aint 50 cent or Eminem and at the same time show who influenced them to become the rappers that they became. For them old school starts with Biggie and 2pac. THEY MUST LEARN.
develop it as a documentary or write a story around it. don't know where you live but most mid - large cities and small college towns have screenwriting classes offered somewhere. the story is obviously close to your heart.
