"i don't believe black people can be led to the promised land"

so i'ma just get money, teach my babies (when i get some) and let the lost stay lost
i mean, you can't waste time arguin' with an old mufucka about right and wrong, or what's acceptible behavior, and what's not
so i just let them fall to the wind, and i dissassociate myself from them
yeah, they black, so am i, so what?
they ain't of the same mindstate as i am, so they might as well not be what i am, you dig?
it's all about catchin' the young before they turn into some hardheaded unreachable nigger
and i mean that -er
they are savages
and i ain't on no self hate shit neither
and this ain't no nigga vs black people post neither, cuz some of them bourgie bastards are worser than them gym shoe thugs and whores that patrol the streets lookin' for a victim
maybe africans are right when they look at us as a people and see no hope and don't want to fuck with us

i mean, let's take black businesses...their prices are high? why? cuz niggas is always lookin' for the hook ups, and shortchangin' the hooker upper in return...sure, they bring people to you....lookin' for the hookup, so who does the black business pass that onto? the already financially burdened black consumer, and then we wonder why so and so ain't stay in business long on that prime spot on crenshaw...cuz the residents couldn't afford to support him givin' people the hook up in the long run

...a child is born with no state of mind, blind to the ways of mankind, god is smilin' on you and frownin' too, because only god knows what you gonna do...©melle mel

The Israelites had Joshua. He and his men fought the giants there. Only after they defeated ALL of the giants did they go back and get the rest of the Israelites. And then TOGETHER (w/their culture/sense of identity intact) did they go into the promised land.

With us, we never finished off the "giants" here. We never sent another group to kill off the giants. We got impatient and started to go over. Some were able to win their one on one battles with the giants. Some were defeated. Some allowed themselves to be exploited by the giants. Some just flat out gave up.

Those who did win their battles, few are going back to get the rest of us. We need to regroup, the battle didn't end with the death of X and King.

Letting the lost stay lost is a bad thing.

I agree with everything you've said here. I note that no matter how frustrating our people can be, we should never be the ones to condemn them. That can be seen as crossing the line. Having said that, I sympathise with him too and I understand exactly how he feels. We can only hope that Buildingblock recollects himself and finds something reaffirming and encouraging to go on again.

You did say it indeed ! Funny how we can go toe to toe for 10 posts only to realise we were saying the exact same thing from the get go. It's commoplace to be overzealous here; I'm guilty of that several times myself !

On the flipside: If we were all civil and polite, the boards would be a snoozefest. Drama makes for heated debates......about nothing most of the time, but heated debates nonetheless.

In response to Reply # 0

What has been promised?

We're all in this (world) together, no matter what. Will Smith recently talked about what he saw when he went to that village in Mozambique...and saw the names of Jay-Z and Tupac.

"When he asked the boys from the village why the names were there they replied, "your impossible." Not understanding what they meant it was explained to Smith that the kids view what these great black men and many others have done as impossible for them to ever do."

Nothing is promised. We have an opportunity to do "impossible" things for the time we are here and then it's over. That's it. You can spend a lot of time looking at a deficit or you can keep moving, leaving behind what doesn't work, keeps you down or stops you from reaching your goals. No matter what the path ends and someone else will pick up where you leave off. My former mentor told me this when I visited during college and she was right.

But how can you save someone when you (not you the poster) are dealing with major issues that keep you from moving forward? How can you love others when you don't love yourself? It's not about giving up hope. You can only start from your corner...anyone can make a choice to do something positive and productive for themselves and their communities. Sometimes all it take is a caring person to point it out.

Black entrepeneurs, like any other business
make adjustments to higher prices

due to "Hook-ups"
and any other theft.....

"Cooking the books..." ..CEO EMBEZZELMENTS.

Years ago in retail and the store was near a school and the majority of students were black.

3:15 p.m. every available staff hit the sales floor to WATCH the black students.
But. I came upon the little old white man (80issh) and his wife as he was STEALING a belt.

Shhiii..(alledgedly) there were so many Non-Black "Hook-ups" in a major way. Inside jobs !
AND
Drinking inside/outside the store.

If black folk told all their NEWS stories..about non-blacks
The Realll Reality show !

White Man: to young black clerk.

You all steal small
You steal mayonnaise
nd we still the big money.

I once posted that I did not purchase a burger from a black business, because the burger only was $5 plus and not far away at a chain fast-food, I could get more for the same price.

Although both are in a black neighborhood...not once, not once have I ever heard of the black business being robbed.

Verrry cleannnn...no hook-ups,
that one Hughe burger. Give me options.

I support black business. Helping others towards their perceived "Promise Land".

Matter of fact My.....

Electrician...Plummber....Carpenter...Outside Mechanic(other work)....
Supermarket (once..hopefully will return)...tailor....

ALL BLACK BUSINESS.

THE store owner of the Black Supermarket has
outside robberies/almost all day everyday...
but the best prices and now clean.

The prices Do Not increase if there are "hook-ups"
theft of any sort.

Matter of fact all races..creed..color..ethnicities...cultures come to shop when there is the BIGG sales. Right in the HEART OF THE GHETTO.

"...maybe africans are right when they look at us as a people and see no hope and don't want to fuck with us."

I disagree with you. Lots of Africans see a lot of hope when they look at y'all. If anything, lots of African intellectuals find their own people discouraging and they give up on them too just as y'all give up on your own. Tens of thousands of the most educated and intelligent of Africa are living elsewhere in the West and contributing immensely to societies either than their own, probably because their valuable contributions got unappreciated and rejected at home. 'But for each African that has given up on his people there are more that have developed a renewed hope for the future.

Centuries of oppression leave an indelible mark on the self-image and the psyche a nation/cultural group. People start accepting and even get addicted to hardship and squalor as inescapable facts of life. However, giving up on your people should not be an option...it is implicit you are giving up on yourself also. This is the same message being passed on to the G8. They carry the burden of the Third World, whether they think it is justified or not. The world cannot function like this (disparity between the poor and rich) and it can not be allowed to go on this way, hence the need for a Marshall Plan for the Third World especially Africa. Now take that analogue and use it for your people.

The fates of the haves and the have-nots, are inextricably tied together, hence the former can never enjoy their keep and live safely as islands of abundance surrounded by wild and restless tsunamis of desperate have-nots. It's just not going to happen; it doesn't matter if we think the have-nots have no one but themselves to blame for their condition or not.

So go back to your people; change and adapt your strategies; be humble even if you think you are better than them and continue your community activism. Remember that the cause is bigger than yourself. Some of the most noble activists in the history of humankind were not appreciated at the time; and some even got killed by the very same people they were helping. I'm not asking you to be a martyr; that's not for everyone; but realise that giving up on a mission says more about you than it does about the people you are trying to help.

This is a concept that seems to be lost on TOO many black folks, on these boards. Conversely, maybe folks who believe it acceptable to give up on the dredges of our community aren't especially fit to uplift them anyways... maybe the folks who will really affect change in our peoples course are the ones who realize they are essentially no different from the worst of their people.

Too many of us have NO humility, we believe ourselves to be EXAMPLES of goodness, purity, and all that is RIGHT with our people. Too many of us think that because they made it, everyone who didn't is lazy and should pull themselves up by their bootstraps. It's foolishness, conceited foolishness. We are ultimately responsible for our kindred. Those of us who think otherwise will be dealt with according to seeds we failed to sow!

to give a simplistic perspective. Its been my experience that we learn, grow and are most inspired in the most seemingly uninspiring of situations. Part of your personal development is inexrticably linked to your people and their fate. By helping and understanding them, you are also helped and gain understanding.

PGP's post; wish I could throw the whole thing in all my sig's, eish much cosigning there!
