"This Week (Season) In Baseball!! 2024 Season "

Dodgers/Padres kicked things off in South Korea. The Dodgers’ lineup is going to be unforgiving. Shohei already making an impact with the bat. They tried to jam him inside and he just stays calm, rigid, gets his hands inside the ball, and puts it in play…came back next time and they threw it outside, off the plate…even expecting it inside he was still able to reach out AND barrel up on it.

I forget who the guy was, but he was a fucking SS and Eduardo Perez or somebody was asking dude a question, he stopped in the middle of the answer to start a fucking double play. It's corny and it doesn't make the game interesting. I would assume that is the goal.

Although, if the audience reception is poor and they yank it, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

To me it's not quite when WNBA coaches are being interviewed mid-game. With baseball, there's so much deadtime in between action that the conversation fills the airtime.

With coaching, especially in the 4th quarter, the conversation seems intrusive and distracting.

Two for two with a thrilling shot for the first Twins homer of the season, then removed for a pinch runner due to an injured quad.

... that somebody "is a genius" or "was a genius" if you're talking about the long collection of geniuses who have lived and then died, that it is more appropriate to say they "had genius."

His view was that genius was an epiphany. You grab hold of a moment and hold it gently before it flies away. He was clear that it was not necessarily a short moment, but he was a theologian and everything looks short next to infinity.

I think about Prof. Tracy a lot when I watch Byron Buxton play. Had a couple years there where I would occasionally argue he had some unlucky freak injuries. But not anymore. Christ, imagine what his game would look like if there were no such thing as outfield walls? He'd be safe from about 1/3 of his injuries and you'd get 20+ homers that looked like delirious car chases.

We'll see about Lewis, but you're probably right. I thought there was a world where he could find a defensive home that preserved some of the value of his glove/arm (mostly arm) but also reduced his injury risk. But this was a baserunning injury, so there you go. I'm nervous about him because he can't seem to ever get settled, in the sense that the good version of this roster always feels slightly in the future. The Twins greatest internally renewable resource right now is "infielders" who aren't shortstops and while Lewis' talent means I'm never going to complain about him blocking somebody else, there is a roster limit to just gently nudging three, four, five guys down the defensive spectrum.

It felt like he'd been around in some manner for about half a decade at that point.

Similarly, I was sad to recently learn that Buxton is already 30 years old. It still doesn't seem like his career has even launched yet.

I can only imagine your pain, even as a casual observer I feel like we've been robbed of seeing their full ability on display.

I didn't look up any numbers, for what the first week is worth anyhow. But I was sort of thinking the same thing. Though the games I watched also looked slightly warmer than they usually do for late March/early April.

Anyhow, thanks for noting it. I'm now gonna try to pay attention. It'd be fast turnaround from 2019 but I'm kind of ready for another juiced ball season.

It's become a damn-near guarantee that all top pitchers will miss a significant amount of time at some point due to elbow issues.
