"Champions League, quarterfinals."

Champions League quarterfinal draw:
Arsenal vs. Bayern Munich

-Arsenal owe Bayern one, I know that much. Not looking forward to Kane returning tho (or Gnabry)

Atlético Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund

-Atletico should advance here

Real Madrid vs. Manchester City

-Hopefully Madrid, but who knows really

Paris Saint-Germain vs. Barcelona

-have to say, the draw went well for Barca

Champions League semifinal draw:
Atlético Madrid / Borussia Dortmund vs Paris Saint-Germain / Barcelona

Arsenal / Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid / Manchester City

Bayern are having a down year.
City haven't been at their best.
Arsenal are good but not quite there yet.
PSG hasn't seemed great.
Barca obv having struggles.
Madrid are very solid, but not scary

BVB
Atletico

Could really be anyone's year... and I fear that may mean it's Madrid's but... I can't call it

nevermind making it easy for fans (because obviously no one cares about that), it just makes more sense *financially* for UEFA to do a doubleheader of Madrid/City, then Bayern/Arsenal (or vice versa).

I'd say we did better than expected in the CL this year as a whole, but we could and should have beaten PSG... That red changed everything.
And I don't think it was a red, personally.

pretty clear red to me but I accept I may not be the most unbiased observer. Still, we scored 4 after the card and kept up the pressure even in moments when staying back could’ve been understandable. Huge game from Barcola, MVP IMO

but QF was my pre-season hope. And being >>>>> PSG when 11 on 11 is a good sign, if they don't fuck up building the team.

and that was a squad missing gavi, balde, and christensen. all 3 who would have been in a real starting XI.

more and more thinking we should let both joaos go, but laporta probably won't.

It's not the kind of red I would passionately argue against, I can see why it was called, but I think it was light. There was contact, he put his hand on his shoulder, but the actual force in pulling him back wasn't enough that I'd call for a red in a game I was neutral in. If it were my team, yeah sure, but if I were a neutral -- not enough in it for me. And obviously as a fan of the offending side...

We clearly exceeded expectations for the competition, and would probably find ourselves in the final without that single call, so I'm disappointed, but not shaken.

As for the Joao's... Félix is a bit complicated. Early in the season he looked so good. Understood movement and where to be. But in typical JF fashion he's been inconsistent throughout the season. Still though, I like him better than Lewa. That dude just doesn't work for us, to me. Too selfish to be as mediocre as he's been since the World Cup. JF can't be our center forward, but I'd give up Lewa in a heartbeat.

Cancelo though, I'd keep. Yeah, he fucked up with that foul against Dembele but, I think the positive outweight the negatives with him, especially if he can be played in rotation.

not about amount of contact. it's a foul in which no one else was between him and goal and it was near the box. cubarsi was nowhere near the play.

and he tripped barcola up with his leg as well (accidental, but that doesn't matter), not just that shoulder grab. just the shoulder is a little iffy cause you could argue barcola made a meal of that. but it wasn't just that.

regarding Joaos its partly cost, but it's mostly that they aren't good enough to warrant blocking their replacements AND cost. JF isn't lewa's replacement. that *has* to be roque given the price tag we paid for roque (with some ferran sprinkled in). So JF is, legtimately, my 3rd LW option behind raphinha who looks good there and ferran who has shown he's capable of playing as a rotation option. and Guiu looks like a potential player as well.

regarding cancelo, it's more that he's definitely behind balde for me and if we can keep kounde content playing RB sometimes, next year we could give hector fort minutes. and the team needs to save money.

I was airing a grievance. But if we're trying to cut costs on the front line, i'd start there.
Also seems that you have Yamal as the starting RW...? I love the kid, but I don't think that's realistic. He's played a lot there this season, but we've had injuries that have necessitated that, but let's not forget he's 16. Rafinha is the starting RW to me, no question. LW? It's gotta be between Felix and Ferran. Guiu is also too young to be put in that position at this point. And Felix vs Ferran is a toss up. Felix has 10 goals on the season, Ferran 11... but I'd be curious to see what position they're coming from as some of Torres' have definite come from CF.

And we also have to contend with the fact that Gavi spent a fair amount of time in the LW position as well given our midfield needs defensively, but his play demanding a starting spot.

So unless we're talking Gavi, I don't think anyone is being blocked at LW. Neither Felix or Ferran is playing well enough to demand a starting position there, and Rafinha is more likely on the other wing.

For Cancelo... behind Balde, fine but Balde's coming off a major injury and should be handled with care for next season (So should Gavi, we don't need more Pedri situations). I'd rotate probably rotate there... And the real benefit with Cancelo is that he can play RB or LB. Fort can get some minutes, sure, but again. He's 17.

not for any excessive or dangerous contact, but but there was no one between the ball and the keeper

any foul in that situation is supposed to be a red card

core players will continue to improve with time. Realistically, quarterfinals CL is great progress.

Obviously need a 9, prolly a left back too (unless Timber is the one)

Also maybe a left footed 8.
