long story short, Americans think it's become a little robotic and are concerned that STYLE, which is what it was founded on, won't be taken into account.
Americans exceed more in style whereas Japan, Korea, etc. are all more technical (not that they have NO style) and it SEEMS like the scoring will be more technical based.

When they added rock climbing to the Olympics. That's the event where they fly up the wall like running up a ladder. Has nothing to do with being the best climber in the world/"real climbing" but it was part of the score to win gold overall. So a guy like Adam Ondra has to train for it, didn't win gold.
