"Josh Smith getting Bonilla checks from the Pistons...."
He got ejected for fighting Royce White during a Big3 game today, and
"The former Piston was booed by the crowd upon his arrival to the scene. After signing a four-year, $54 million deal in 2013 free agency, Smith averaged 15 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and shot 26.2% on 3-pointers and 41.3% overall in just over one season with the team. Detroit is still paying him $5.3 million annually.
Smith last played in the NBA during the 2017-18 season with the New Orleans Pelicans, appearing in three games."

Explosive big with a truly horrible jump shot that refuses to not take jump shots. Josh Smith. Imagine what sort of headache you have to be have a 16 and 7 stat line and be paid NOT to play.

Bonilla's compounding interest is turning $6M owed (in a capless sport!) into $30M collected
Smith just had the $27M owed to him stretched out with no interest paid. and for the first 2 years it freed up about $7M in cap space. but over the next 3 it counted/will count against the cap for a little more than $5M.
that was a good move overall, because it freed up money after the optimism of the 15/16 season. injuries killed those next 2 seasons, but stretching Smith made the team more competitive. the Mets just basically gave Bonilla $25M for nothing lol
Joe extended Rip Hamilton, signed Charlie Villanueva, signed Ben Gordon, and signed Joe Smith in the span of a few years and made even the biggest Dumars supporter like myself cringe and eventually hope he got fired.
