Shut their back court down.

And offensively, just too much Splash Brothers. Good contributions from the bench too. Livingston is really turning things around after a tough regular season and beginning of the play offs.

clearly the rest of the team is more in sync when he isnt on the floor. theyre like 30-1 with him out and steph in at this point.

either way...him bailing them out is even more reason to wanna see him leave. let the law of gravity apply to them again like every other team instead of having that convenient parachute.

given that 3-4 teams in the east could arguably handle this blazers team, it's a bad look that they made the conference finals.

Out there with your “PG” standing out of the way, Embiid setting screens 27 feet from the hoop and Jimmy Butler dribbling around trying to be a creator. FOH. Dame and CJ would both eat that shit up and create a bucket.

22. "A few other things: 1. Portland won't be THIS bad defensively Game 2"
In response to Reply # 0

I know the Blazers aren't exactly known for their defense, but this was really awful. I don't know what the heck Stotts was smoking when he came up with this defensive scheme, but leaving Curry and Klay open to shoot 3s isn't a sustainable strategy. I guess he decided it was better to have Kanter stand around like a statue 15-feet away from the ball rather than defend Curry at the 3-point line, lest Curry dribble around him and score 30 points in easy lay-ups. I'm guessing they come up with something better tomorrow. Shoot, they have to.

2. Even with Curry scoring at will, the Warriors defensive superiority, and the Blazers' defensive deficiency and turnovers, the Warriors were still only up by 6 at the beginning of the 4th. The Blazers ran out of gas after that. A good chunk of the closeness of the game had to do with the free throw disparity and sloppy Warriors play in the first half, but Blazers were in it long past they had any right to be. Lillard and McCollum will likely bounce back tomorrow.

3. But, again, if the Warriors are this on defense, none of it will matter.

4. I see Lillard playing for Oakland love by wearing the A's jersey. Well played. Warriors love supercedes all tho.

Kerr confirmed that he hasn’t started any basketball activities and isn’t traveling to Portland. I imagine the absolute earliest he’d come is Game 6 (if necessary), but even that I doubt.

Cousins isn’t ready yet either.

Hoping that it’ll be a Finals Return for both, IF we get there.

Lillard was trying to give him that James Harden special (forearm bump then stepback) but Iggy timed it right & got the strip. They aren't calling those subtle handchecks at the end of game just like they don't call forearm bump by the ball-handler's all game long. If he was reaching & slapping his forearm then they probably would have called it.

I legit believe GSW is gonna end this series in 5 games.

And Kerr is making sure the entire bench is involved which is strengthening confidence because he’s gonna need all of them if they face, without KD, the Bucks in the Finals.

theyre damn near undefeated in their last 30 w/o him w/ steph. thats insane.

i dont know why people continue to say theyre not just because it sounds illogical with how good kd is. just watch the games. the numbers and our own eyes will tell you the same thing.

the ball movement on offense is so sharp now. those kerr rotations are back to being crisp like 2015. the bench is no longer a liability like people thought. its just better mayne.

“i forgot draymond was *this* good. dude was a gamechanger tonight on both ends when he was in there.“

crazy and wrong for going off on KD like he did earlier in the season.

KD tried to “son” another all-star who won without him and Draymond wasn’t having it.

Hopefully, he keeps playing this well and the Warriors go get another chip. I’d love it if they did it without KD on the floor at all. Shut that noise down before he walks out the door. Maybe then, fools start putting respect back on these guys’s names.

Because I think if Rondo doesn't disable Kevin Love and Kyrie's knees don't implode, Cleveland wins the first matchup easily.

It was the Warriors first time there and Cleveland still took 2 games without Kyrie and Love. Then watching the Cavs come back and beat them in 7 the next year after 73 wins...

I feel like LeBron would actually have 4 rings right now if not for those injuries.

And I'll say this, the Warriors can beat anybody in the NBA without Durant...except for a team with LeBron + 2 other allstars.

KD was the equalizer for GState.

Giannis might be the new LeBron but he's not as skilled (yet) so they actually still might be able to beat Milwaukee without KD (prolly tight 6-7 game series). With KD, Bucks lose in 5/6 games and convincingly IMO.

In response to Reply # 49

before draymond got suspended and steph got ejected in the following game. both due to some lebron bitchassedness and bad reffing. they didnt fully recover in game 7.

you can solely blame dubs for the collapse if you want. thats fine. but the point is 2 of their best 3 players were removed from 2 important games for varying stretches of time...influencing the outcomes.

its not like the cavs were clearly a better team that just outgunned them from pillar to post. they were down 3-1 for a reason.

im not sure how anyone looks at that and sees the cavs as unbeatable by that same dubs roster.

is it really outside the realm of possibility that the dubs dont lose steph/draymond for any finals games the next 2 years and close out the cavs in both finals? maybe even 4-1 and 4-0?

I thought Clev would have beaten the Warriors in the first matchup. They (Warriors) were rookies to the finals, Bron was a bulldozer and he had enough talent around him to pull it off.

I don't know how that loss would have affected the Warriors the next season: moves, how they play, what confidence they have, etc. They might not win 73 (maybe mid 60's) and they don't come into the finals feeling like a buzzsaw. If Clev wins in 2015, maybe they comeback in 2016 with more confidence in knowing they can beat the Warriors and when it was said and done, each team took one due to injuries.

>is it really outside the realm of possibility that the dubs

I also think the Cavs likely beat the Warriors the next season if KD isn't there. Maybe in 6 or 7 but I think the Warriors had no answer for LeBron and he exploited it. Kyrie did too. KD allowed them to match every single thing Bron did if not counter with more blows.

My opinion...at the end of the day, it would have been either 2-2 or 3-1 in favor of Clev had everyone stayed healthy and KD not come to the Warriors.

won 16 more games in an indisputably tougher conference.

then went on to open up a 3-1 lead in the finals before some sideline intervention.

that just sounds like a better team to me.

people were talking gentlemans sweep before draymond got suspended. thats how much better they looked.

That L has psychological consequences.

It's the whole reason Houston couldn't beat the Warriors without KD, even (But they were up 3-2 until Paul got hurt). It's the whole reason the Knicks couldn't finish off the '93 bulls after going up 2-0 with homecourt advantage. It's the whole reason the Kings couldn't recover from the Vlade tap out to Horry that stopped the Lakers from going down 3-1 in 2002. Why the Bulls couldn't finish off the Cavs after going up 2-1 in 2015.

So in this reality, yeah, everything you say is valid and I don't disagree. In the reality where Kyrie and Love don't get hurt and the Cavs face the Warriors at full strength the first go round (where LeBron and the Quickens loans concession stand workers took 2 games from GS), I think it might be a little different.

Because if we're going to play "what if...?" , I'll say that IF Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving had been healthy, the Warriors would have played a different type of game and scorched a much weaker defensive team and swept the Cavs in '15. But, hey, we'll never know...

team is fugazi as a western conference finalist. This is basically the same team that got SWEPT in the first round last year by the Pelicans when Rondo OWNED Dame. The same Pelicans team that couldn't even make the playoffs this year without rondo.

The Warriors are great team without KD but they still need him and i feel that the outcome of these first 2 games influenced this most recent "medical report".

The Warriors don't beat Lebron in the Finals these last 2 years without KD.

The Warrior probably don't win that first year if Love and Kyrie were healthy and Bron wasn't out there with Timofey Mozgov and JR Smith.

Putting aside that you ignore context, changes with the Pels this year, injuries with the Pels, and the idea that teams/players can you know...grow and improve without making a huge addition...

Hood, Kanter, and Curry have been very decent roster additions for Portland.

This isn't the same team as last year. Just like the Pels aren't the same team.

We get it- you are disappointed in this conference finals match up. You can just say that. You can just say "it should be Houston- too bad they had so many injuries" or whatever.

But you dial it up to stupid and try to claim that this is the same Portland team as last year- when that is objectively not true- and this is why you get clowned on here so much.

Even when you have a decent point, you fuck it up.

Cuz you add extra commentary that makes it clear you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. Which is weird, because you are on here all the fucking time.

Its why people pile on you. And you have the power to stop it. Stop saying objectively untrue shit. Especially when you don't even need to.

How can you be this big of a basketball fan, and get simple facts wrong all the time? For no real reason too.

You can have your "this is a weak conference finals"- but you add on with all this other untrue shit that just makes you look silly.

Now, the east vs west inbalance is a lot better this year. Objectively true.

Portland is better this year than last season. Objectively true.

Are they the 2nd best team in the west? No. But they are here mostly because of Houston's season. That happens.

They have proven they are at least the 4th best team (if not 3rd) in the west. Objectively true. Ask OKC.

All that young talent in LA couldn't even sniff the playoffs in a western conference that isn't as strong as last season. Also, objectively true.

I'm not even a Blazers fan (though I think hating them is odd as fuck), but I'm tired of you saying untrue, stupid shit.

but the team isnt better.

i havent actually seen anyone make a deductive or data driven case for why they arent better without kd aside from 'cmon guythsss its kddddd. they just arent better without him'.

the case against kd is the actual results. whats the case for kd?

its not a small sample size either. its over 1/3 of a seasons worth of games.

without steph and with kd...the team wins like 60% of their games. nothing to sneeze at. but below their 70% winning percentage in the regular season (a worse team percentage-wise).

with steph and without kd...the team wins over 95% of their games.

whats the objective counter-argument to that?

teams were KD could've played but they figured they would need him but sat out?

Bottom line their 1 title without KD should have an asterisk because it was against a Cavs team that was missing 2 of its top 3 players.

Steph and Klay getting more shots is not a bad thing, obviously.

But they are worlds thinner without KD. Completely healthy they're better than anyone without KD. With KD, they can lose any player and be fine.

I'm not sure if Steph fits amazingly with KD - the numbers tend to show that he doesnt - but the team is not better without Kevin Durant, that is just stupid talk. They're playing the Blazers, who are a midlevel playoff team. I dont think the Bucks would beat them, but it'd be WAY closer.

Yeah, the Clippers meanwhile were an all-time team which required Servant hijacking the offense while freezing out Curry b/c Patrick Beverley got in his head.

it is what it is.

G.S. may actually be better without KD -- it was a super sensitive move to cry in the parking lot after the Cavs won the most historic chip in league history - when they should've said "let's get back we got this" instead of "KD COME SAVE US!"

But KD has likely played his last game in a Dub jersey - so let's see if the Dubs finally have their confidence back after 2016.

At this point he only has one more total FGs than TOs. Warriors are playing him perfectly. It looks like they've broken his spirit; he's not moving well without the ball.

IF they win it all again, I can't see any logical reason why he'd leave. Seriously, he's going to leave this team for the Knicks? Give up the most money and potentially more chips one of the worst organizations in the league? Just don't see it.

Dude absolutely put them on his back when they were down big and kept them in the game. Lead by example and kept the other players in the game. One of his best play-offs with the team. And he's having an amazing stretch. People who hate on him are looking silly right now.

Bench was really good as well, and extremely efficient. 33 points on 15-21 shooting. That's more than we could hoped for.

And of coure, Steph was Steph. Another amazing second half. He was burning everyone.

So yeah, great game. Be nice to finish it off Monday and rest for a little over a week. Might end up being a gentleman's sweep though.

Boy am I lazy; a simple duckduckgo.com search revealed the answer to my query of maxing Klay, Durant, and Draymond. Here's the link: https://tinyurl.com/y3grtocq

Here's a link to the yahoo.com article that fully breaks down with the salary situation would look like if Klay, Durant, and Draymond all get maxes: https://tinyurl.com/y38g8hf6

2015 Warriors
1990 Pistons
1989 Pistons

i didnt go back past 1975 but it doesnt matter. 2 players in the entirety of the modern era of the NBA have managed to win a title as a team's best player, and Lillard is matched up against one right now. those two players are 2 of the GOAT 3 point guards (the third is 6'9 incidentally)

im not really a fan of making blanket statements because of a matchup vs an all timer. Not to mention that CJ and Dame dont have nearly the same defensive cavalry that the Ws and Bad Boys did.

same goes for Kyrie. NO little dudes lead guys to chips, so why should we expect it to be different for them?

it basically comes down to a smaller player needing an excess of creativity and skill to he able to get *his* shot when everyone knows who's shooting.

thats why AI's handle is still so revered. if he did have God-like handles, he wasnt getting his shots up. Isiah used to run AT the baseline and shoot from behind the backboard. steph takes a step back when hes already at 28 feet.

kobe...jump and fade. durant...jump and fade. jordan...jump and fade. olajuwon/duncan/shaq/...shoulder bump and hook. garnett...shit every shot he took was unblockable. these shots are all *physically *unstoppable. the only defense is to hope for a miss. AND all those dudes might just say fuck it and yam on you.

we gotta let these gendas go and be honest about what a small player can be expected to accomplish as the focus of a defense.

Lillard is a career 40% shooter in the postseason. For comparison, Lowry is a 41% shooter. The man has been a dud outside of the '14 series vs. Rockets & the 1st round against OKC this postseason. He's basically living off two series as far as his postseason career is concerned. If it wasn't for 6'3" CJ going off, they wouldn't even have gotten past the 2nd rd.

As far as the size issue, Nash/CP-Plea actually put up better scoring numbers (while maintaining their efficiency) in the postseason than the regular season.

Historically, Kevin Johnson (pre-injury) is probably the best comp for Lillard as far as how they were both ranked in relative to their peer during their primes as fringe MVP candidates & perennial 2nd team All-NBA guards. KJ outplayed Stockton/Magic during a single postseason & almost led the Suns to the '90 Finals before he got injured in Gm 6 of the WCF. Lillard meanwhile has constantly been clubbed like a baby seal by CP-Plea/Curry throughout his career.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

whether it’s done by one dominant player or collectively by a group that’s what it takes to win an NBA championship.

With the game becoming so perimeter oriented offensively you have people that can defend the paint AND switch out on the perimeter as well.

Portland doesn’t have anybody that can do that.

When Kanter was in OKC they barely played him against GS.

Warriors are getting to be in some rarified air when it comes to professional sports franchise accomplishments. We're probably not going to really be able to appreciate the overall greatness of all of this until like 10 years down the road.

As for the game, Steph ruled. Draymond ruled. Looney ruled. McKinnie filled in well for Iggy. We're banged up and still swept them. And people who talk smack about Draymond look sillier and sillier by the game.

As for Lillard, he had a good game, but he pretty ineffective as a whole this series. Even though dude repped Oakland this year well enough, he's a bit too whiny for my tastes. Complained when he wasn't an all-star. Complained when he wasn't first team all NBA. And there was a little bit too much talk by others about how it'd be "perfect" for him to close out Oracle. Yeah, so much for that. You're cool enough, Dame. But you're not Steph.

But there's no need to try and revise the season

He was bad.

I said the Warriors, as a team, just something that no other team has done in over 50 years. And, as I forgot to mention, they're only the second team in NBA history to ever do so.

Coming in and bringing up an individual, like it has any significance in a conversation about an entire team's accomplishments, is irrelevant.

I'm pointing out the hilarious irony of you sycing 5 straight finals appearances and alluding to its historical significance when you had no such praise for LeBron's unprecedented (in the modern era) 8 straight finals appearances. To the contrary, you trivialized that unheard of achievement.

Just keep it logically consistent - that's all.

Or you could just take a trip to Costa Rica and log on to OKP Sports all day (with a great view?)

Either way.

Especially now that LeBron's days as champion are over. So much so that it's causing you to try to force him into conversations that aren't even tangentially related to him.

Don't worry, LeBron will get another shot. When he opts out of his Laker's contract in two years and signs with the Warriors. That will be funny.

Without Lebron in 2016, it never happens.

Durant doesnt's sign with GS if they were defending
champs. Lebron beating them at least gave the *impression* that
the Warriors needed to improve (they didn't; Lebron just GOATed)

No one talks about the one year UCLA didn't win a championship during their run. They talk about the championships.

And, of course, the Warriors legacy is still being written. Or, to be exact, played.

So Lebron's victory is a very central part of the Dubs

A 73-win team had to add the second best player in the league
to beat Lebron James and (as we NOW know) an obligate sidekick
in Kyrie.

They'll be exhibiting their strange LeBron fixation in the Finals thread too. And, if the Warriors win, in whatever victory thread there is. Five years running with this type of behavior, so I don't expect it to stop now.
