"Canelo Alvarez vs Daniel Jacobs |Fight Week| 5.4.19 | DAZN"

Middleweight Straps on the line:
Canelo brings the WBA and WBC
Jacobs brings the IBF

Canelo picked up the vacant WBC against Miguel Cotto who'd long been ruined by Antonio Margarito's illegal gloves. He picked up the WBA off GGG.

Daniel Jacobs picked up the vacant IBF against Sergiy Derevyanchenko after GGG was stripped of it for not facing his mandatory, Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

GGG being the common opponent here.
Jacobs gave GGG his toughest fight outside of Canelo. Many felt Jacobs actually won that fight. I might be in that number, as I thought the knockdown was actually Jacobs tripping over his own feet. Essentially, it was a competitive fight. Jacobs wanted the rematch, practically begged for it. GGG wasn't with it, he only wanted the money fight with Canelo. More on that in a sec.

GGG vs Canelo was discussed here. No need to rehash.

Canelo has recently announced that he wants to be undisputed champ at middleweight. Jacobs is the next stop on his journey. Should he win, the only other champ left in the weight class will be Demetrius Andrade, who's recently had some life breathed into his previously chaotic career by signing with DAZN and Matchroom USA. GGG wants a 3rd fight with Canelo, so Canelo told him to go beat Andrade and the 3rd fight would have to happen. GGG decided to fight some guy named Steve Rolls instead. Go figure.

There's been controversy before the fight even starts, with people saying that Jacobs will lose, because he won't KO Canelo, and you HAVE to KO him in order to win a decision against him unless you're Floyd Mayweather. Adelaide Byrd is also part of the pool of possible judges (the one who scored the first fight with GGG 118-110 for Canelo). Canelo's camp also enforced a rehydration clause. At any rate, Jacobs still seems confident.

So after Canelo wins, lol...
No but seriously, aside from him being nearly impossible to beat no the cards, I think Canelo's a better fighter than Jacobs. Jacobs is very reactive and easy to get out of position, and Canelo is great at capitalizing on that. Canelo's last fight was a vanity project where he went to 168 to get some meaningless "WBA Super" title (not to be confused with the actual WBA title), where he destroyed a nobody named Rocky Fielding. Easy work, but Canelo seemed to be working on his footwork and darting in and out. His legs are the one weakness I mostly hear analysts citing. If Canelo comes into this fight better than he was against GGG, Jacobs is toast. Jacobs is known as the Miracle Man tho, maybe there's a god somewhere ready to work one for him.

Also, if you're not familiar with DAZN, it's a sports app mainly known for showing boxing and MMA (there are other sports like soccer and cricket but who cares).
There's a one month free trial period. After that, it's either $99 for the whole year or $20 for one month.
They don't do pay-perv-views at all. With your subscription, you get to watch any fight they show as many times as you want.
Canelo just signed a 5-year, 11-fight deal with them. This is his 2nd fight in that deal.
They just signed Devin Haney.
They broadcast the World Boxing Super Series as well.
It works on androids, Iphones, firestick, chromecast, etc.
Hell I wish every boxer was on this shit, so I wouldn't have to worry about ppv every again.

UFC Fight Pass, and FloGrappling.

I see the benefits of the new model for the viewer and the service provider, but I'm worried it'll be another service I pay for that I never use.

That said, I'm rooting for Jacobs, but I wouldn't put any money on him.

Debatable. It could have went either way but I felt like Danny could have been busier. You are trying to dethrone a champion that has broke records for this title defenses. Remove all doubt.

Yeah, there's always that criticism in close championship fights. I'm not a subscriber to the line of thinking per se, but I understand it. As for Jacobs, he screwed up against GGG by being overly cautious. He said he went into the fight weary of this much-lauded power, but found that it wasn't all he was expecting. Watching the fight, I could see when that shift happened, and so could GGG. It just happened too late.

>Agreed. Great analysis.

Judges like, he didn't shit himself when his head hit the mat, and that's the type of ring generalship i like in fight. 10-9 rd for Alvarez, and since he's ahead on the cards when he got knocked out, new rule - he wins! Who wants to buy the rematch??!!!

Plus he popped for steroids.

I aint watching that dude fight no more, and DEFINITELY not paying for it. It sucks cuz he was nice.

and HBO is now out of boxing.

It's not the entire sport on the BS.
Fairly judged matches take place very frequently.

If you're just in this post to say you're never watching boxing again,
cool thanks for sharing, but the post is for boxing fans fam.
Most of us recognize Canelo gonna have judges in his pocket,
but Canelo isn't boxing... he's one boxer.

Beyond what the judges will say tho, do you think Jacobs can/will objectively beat him?

Plus he popped for steroids.

There's that as well, although is may be worth noting that he popped for a weight-cutting drug, but there's no telling what else he could have done or still be doing.

>I aint watching that dude fight no more, and DEFINITELY not

I feel you. I wouldn't pay for this fight either. I bought the app for all the other content on it. This fight is just extra. Regardless of what the judges will say, I'm very interested in how Jacobs will perform in this fight.

Young was a 13 to 1 underdog.
I thought Robert Byrd stopped the fight too early, but Ali didn't seem to mind at all, so maybe he didn't.

He stopped Mauricio Hererra, a vet who's never been stopped before... 29 seconds into the 3rd rd.
Ortiz is now 13-0 with 13 KO's.

Catching Jacobs with that jab all night. Jacobs had a couple of moments of success, but not enough to claim a victory. Canelo's head movement had Jacobs looking like a whack-a-mole novice for much of the fight, bending his waist really nicely like Shields against Hammer. Canelo's won some bullshit decisions, but this wasn't one of them.
