"Weekend Soccer 02.02-03: Denis the Menace"

Arsenal managed to not fall prey to what was a brutal midweek of games for most top teams, giving them a boost as they get ready to travel to the Etihad. The season has had many pluses for them but away games are clearly not one. There are some reasons for optimism though, with Suarez (who could be starting) arriving on loan from Barca to hopefully strengthen the link-up with their forwards, and City exhibiting some surprisingly sloppy play at times.

OGS had his team raring to go in the second-half on Tuesday, overcoming a 2-0 deficit to get a point and thus showing that he obviously has the players firmly in his corner. Going to Leicester might be a different story though, considering how bad of a matchup the Foxes can be for big teams. Liverpool will try to get over the disappointment of not fully capitalizing on City's loss this week, but going to West Ham might be trickier than it looks. The Hammers have lost badly in two straight away games, but beat Arsenal 1-0 in their last home League game.

On Sunday PSG have their last dress rehearsal before the CL clash with United, as they go to Lyon. In Spain Real have another game against a surprise top team, as they host Alaves who beat them in dramatic fashion back in October.

I mean, it prolly will be one of those days regardless of what they put out there, but I would have started Ramsey and/or Ozil here.

The midfield is so obviously gonna get overrun today

Pep and City obviously knew Lichsteiner was the weakest link and they just pounded the right flank relentlessly to their advantage. You're not going to win many games, regardless of how well the other 10 play, when there's a weakness that sizable and obvious

no clean sheets, scoring one goal a game (outside of Crystal Palace).

the lack of defensive depth is starting to take its toll. not that milner or hendo can't deputize at right back, but it takes them out of midfield, which is where liverpool made their greatest strides in solidity this year.

But i'm not sure what the excuse is for the front three plus Fabinho and Keita.

Firmino's passes were off all game, and Mo Salah had his first shot that wasn't blocked in like 2 matches.

I was expecting to run all over Madrid. Was shocked at how sharp they were in the first half. Great game from Malcom (which he really needed) and a great game from Semedo as well. Coutinho was impotent out there. You can see that he has absolutely no confidence, even after scoring a couple goals two weeks ago (I missed last weekend's game). Messi and Vidal coming on absolutely changed everything. I mean the we were dominating the second half even before their introduction, but I was surprised not to get a winner.
