back when it happened, I was so enamored with Mike that I dismissed the shit cuz I was mad, lol. He took Mike apart, though. That took some kind of guts, though...to get on a plane, fly to Tokyo and fight fucking Mike Tyson 3 weeks after losing your mother.

...knocked him out, but the referee slow counted Douglas back into the game.
now, to Douglas' credit after that he went hard in the paint and would have won on the cards unless the judges were on the take, no matter what.
we've all heard about all the shit Mike was going through and how he supposedly didn't train for Douglas...and something in Mike's mind must of flipped because when Douglas K.O.'d him (which Mike was up at the 9 count and the ref still K.O.'d him) Mike wasn't even putting up his hands.
in more recent interviews Mike has bemoaned how rich he was at the time and how everyone was just pulling on him and his pursestrings...that no one cared about what was best for him but just best for them as it related to Mike. you can even see when Mike steps into the ring he was elsewhere as he wasn't wearing his usually killer look that he always had when he fought.
anyhow, another great 30 for 30. Douglas shocked the world and I remember where I was when I found out and my jaw was on the floor but in hindsight it doesn't seem so shocking.

I mean he's F*CKED
I'll buy that the Douglas count was slow before I'll buy that Mike was with it at 9. He didn't know what planet he was on. His trainer had to tell him he was knocked out.

Now, Douglas certainly beat the brakes off of Tyson before and after the knock-down, and he deserves all due respect for that. But he's also pretty lucky that the ref gave him the extra slow count. Mike floored him with the uppercut.
The story of the match should been Mike escaped by the skin of his teeth and learned how to take his opponents seriously. And we could have got Tyson vs. Holyfield when it should have happened.
