Damn this shit is sad man. I hate to see my guys season and possibly career end like this. Dude was a consummate professional and teammate. Never said a word when Colin took over. Spent last year mentoring Mahones and has deservedly so gotten praise from the youngster for everything he taught him. He had one of the rockiest first five years in the league and played behind some atrocious lines early on. Hope dude recovers and doesn't have any longstanding complications from this.

The fracture itself wasn’t that bad, it was lower down towards the ankle which really boosted his recovery potential...however, with an open fracture there’s an increased risk of infection.

multiple surgeries mean multiple opportunities for a wound infection, and with the right antibiotics and a thorough debridement, its generally not a big deal.

but since "career ending" is already being thrown around, i would guess its a bone infection. that usually requires extended IV antibiotics to the point where they just put a long term picc line in. if that doesnt work, they will have to go into the bone and physically remove the infected parts. once they start resecting bone from your legs, at that age.... playing again looks more unlikely. ive been in a few spine surgies on people with osteomyelitis in their vertebral columns, and they just remove entire vertebral bodies then replace them with metal.

WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE

loved this guy in college and he's had his moments as a pro. it was a pretty grisly break.
