He was in the 'good ole boy' network with Reinsdorf.

Figured they'd wait until after the season.

Associate head coach Jim Boylen will take over as the permanent head coach of the Bulls to replace Fred Hoiberg, no interim title, league source tells ESPN.

My biggest knock on Hoiberg has always been he couldn't manage egos and every team he's had has basically tuned him out. He may be a good X's and O's guy (though we'll never know supposedly because he never had his perfect roster) but he never really seemed to get his leaders to buy into the system.

Still, makes no sense to fire him this year while we're still rebuilding. The record we have now is due to all the injuries. Fred did the best with what he had, and think he should have finished the year out, but maybe another coach can reach these young players better.

So what coaches are out there?

...he wasn't the problem.

He was asked to come in and coach a playoff veteran team that was in turmoil his first year. Took Rondo, Wade and Butler to the playoffs his second, and then start a rebuild in his 3rd yesr. This was the 2nd year of a rebuild, and he had to give starter minutes to guys that would probably never sniff the court due to injuries.

If they're firing him because if his record this season, it's not his fault.

If they're firing him because of player development, those players have been injured. But Portis and Markkanen (and Valentine to some degree) grew last season.

The defense was horrid. Even if that's not his bag, it falls under him.

I also don't think he's got the players that fit his system until recently. The front office brought in a coach that had this offensive system they were so excited about (especially after years of Thibs), they didn't bother to provide him with the players to execute said system (Rondo, Wade, Parker?). I actually gave dude props when he benched Jabari Parker and Cam Payne, BOTH terrible moves guys the front office brought in.

My last thought. This front office doesn't know how to evaluate talent. From players to coaches. Not saying they can't draft, but the dependence on certain agents and certain pipelines (Iowa St.) is their weakness. These guys saw 2 years of Cam Payne in OKC (a g league pg at best) and traded Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott for him. These guys saw Jabari Parker last year in Milwaukee and said he could play SF. These guys brought in both Rondo and Wade to a team that had no shooters. There are rumors (granted wild ones) that the Bulls could be interested in Fultz. Given the history, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

Last thing then I'm done done. John Paxson and Gar Foreman are the longest tenured GMs in the league that haven't won a ring. The loyalty to these guys no matter their record is where the problem is, not the coach.

They draft well...sometimes...pretty decently with later picks, hit or miss with lotto picks.

They are horrible to work for as bosses, have NO plan or if they do, it doesn't mesh with the personnel they bring in and the lack of real threat to their jobs allows for them to make asinine moves without consequence.

To boot, they aren't player friendly so it sours FA's on Chicago.

But, this all starts and ends with Reinsdorf. I will celebrate the day he sells the team (though what's more likely is that he'll die and give it to his son to run)

https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/basketball/bulls/ct-spt-0728-bulls-chicago-sports-20130728-story.html

He's been grooming Michael for years.

I've never seen a rebuilding team treat 2nd round picks like
an afterthought like the Bulls do.

My hope? If/when Michael gets full control, he brings in all of his own people and starts fresh. But if there was ever a time to do that, it's now.

Markkanen
Carter Jr.
LaVine
2019 NBA Draft Pick

That's a solid start.

first of all, why hire a dude known for "Pee Pee State"-brand perimeter shooting on a team where... next to no one is geared to that kind of offense

but it's probably a blessing in disguise. the Bulls have some good pieces to start the post-Thibs era in earnest, maybe they can find the right person to fill that role and go from there

Which is interesting because they played well last year when Dunn/Lauri/Portis/Lavine were healthy. Pretty sure they had like a 10-2 stretch at some point.

At the end of the day Fred probably doesn't have the personality to coach in the pro's, but the timing of this is still weird.

* - personally I'm kind of glad that the usual "DUR HURR U dOn'T hAvE LeBrOn" shit is minimal this season, absent the whole 3 stooges (PBS Logo Face, Donkeylips, Burner Account) talking shit like some entitled brats, but still... that record is not good (and shouldn't be, we tankin')

also, I'm including the Wizards in this list of "bad teams" even though they technically are in the seeding hunt. I have seen few teams as dysfunctional.

even so, all this bad basketball and the BULLS are the laughing stock.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

...when the foundation of the team is poison.

I used to think, "Man, if we had traded up for (insert lottery pick), the Bulls would be better."

I personally don't think it matters.
Landing Zion won't change the culture of the team.
A new coach won't change this team.

I'm assuming Reinsdorf is as well bc old white man money.

And Gar is just there nodding along bc Gar is an idiot.

Goes without saying but a top free agent should stay far far away as long as this regime is in power.

"Reinsdorf and his son, Michael, continue to empower general manager Gar Forman and VP John Paxson, and it's almost like the results don't matter. Hoiberg, himself, was hand-picked by Forman and Paxson to succeed Tom Thibodeau and lead the team into a new era. They spent several years lobbying behind the scenes to replace a good coach (Tom Thibodeau) with Hoiberg. When that experiment ended in disaster, Hoiberg's firing should have been its own indictment of the people who hired him. It's not clear that anyone cares."
