"Poll question: Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury"

In a boxingscene article, Paulie said that Fury can't be judged off of previous fights. He pointed out that he didn't think Fury looked great going into the Klitschko fight and he dominated him. And that's valid, but ... that right tho. Plus Wilder is NOT Fury, and styles make fights.

Who you got?

Because as soon as they give you something to really like (this fight/Rams vs Chiefs), they follow it up with something shitty (this draw/Kareem Hunt cover up)

Epic shit. I was pulling for Wilder to finish the deal, but I’m gonna need to see a Guy Ritchie edit of the 12th. Fury came back from under water and handled business.

a home run punch in the 12th....

absolutely amazing that Fury got up from that..

and he deserved to win the fight.

I'm not sure that Deontay can make the adjustments to do better in a 2nd fight..he missed a ton of punches...simply too wild... Fury's defense is too good..

A rematch would be even worse off for him IMO a la Ward/Kovalev minus the stoppage

In response to Reply # 0

I think most people tend to view fights as who won the war and not understand that fights are judged round by round. If you do the Math, Deontay only had to win 3 rounds to get a draw because of the knockdowns. Tyson clearly befuddled Wilder taking away his biggest weapons but Deontay was still the aggressor for the most of the fight. I had Deontay winning two rounds outside of the knockdowns. That made the score 114-112 Fury. A draw is only one round difference. I think Fury won but I'm not willing to call it a robbery. Fury clearly won the night and his stock is as high today as it has every been.

I gave Wilder that first round on the strength of his jab... leaving two more for him to secure the tie... without scoring it round by round again myself I'd say it's certainly within the realm of possibility that he stole a round or two in there... the knockdowns secure him solid points regardless of how well Tyson comes back in the round barring a knockdown of his own... folk acting like this was a complete joke decision.. I don't love it but I'm not mad until I rewatch.

Not because of the fight itself (which was fascinating and entertaining) - but because of the way that Fury & Wilder rallied together afterwards. These warriors have immense hearts and after that kind of intense training/build-up/fight night - the way they had each other's back after the fight is what it' all about.

As for the fight - I had Fury winning - but thought it was closer than many people scored it. I gave Wilder two rounds (outside of the knockdown rounds) - but those rounds really could've gone either way as I rewatch the fight. It was a spectacular boxing performance by Fury - who looked better than ever and clearly committed himself to his craft at such an admirable level after the adversity-filled layoff. His movement, non-stop angling, turning, head-movement befuddled Wilder throughout - and Wilder got exposed in a similar way that Wladimir Klitschko did when he fought Fury: not being able to vary punches, throw uppercuts, go to the body, or get off w/ the jab with any consistency at all. To Wilder's credit, he never stopped trying - and caught Fury semi-flush (with not even his best shots) which was enough to drop Fury and badly hurt him in the 12th - but Wilder never was able to put together punches and was largely thwarted.

Wilder's corner was egregious in between rounds: no strategy, no actionable insight/advice or direction. He badly needs to go back to the lab and get an Emanuel Steward type mentor to leverage his considerable power and athleticism more effectively. He was swinging widely all night and not setting anything up with nuance - which surprised me because he has demonstrated the ability to box really well previously (see: Stiverne I). Fury has to now be regarded as one of the elites in the division - and you'd be hard pressed to ever find a man his size who can move, show angles, and just flat-out out-box you.

I agree. Impressed with the humility showed by both men. Fury had every right to express disappointment/anger but took the high road understanding the gravity of the night and how life was much different for him not that long ago.

This humility did not extend to Anthony Joshua tho. Both of them trashed Joshua. I think Joshua loses to both of them. He still has not shown the ability to avoid those right hands. I think he is a better boxer than Deontay but unsure of himself. I can see him losing a decision to Fury. I think AJ is #3 after Saturday's performance.

Sir, you are speaking some very true words here. The Man needs a real trainer - ASAP!

plus given his fighting style being tall and lanky for his weight, you'd think that he'd be in a good position to pass on knowledge that would really enhance and grow Wilder's natural gifts.

Then again, there's a big difference between teaching and doing. It was super frustrating watching Wilder throw the same 2 punch combo over and over, and never successfully follow up with the left until the 12th round.

and it was a great fight

Didn't catch the pre-fight buildup, pressers, etc...

But ever since the Tyson/Lewis spectacle, these fights usually entail some shenanigans

Really impressed with both guys and the respect shown

Huge fan of both going forward.
