But I'm with you in that it doesn't feel like any of the core kids have been given a back seat with the veteran additions. Bron should help them grow, but their production and role on team feels like a natural continuation from last year IMO

Zo's working back after surgery and Rondo damn sure doesn't look like he's here to ride pine, so the jury's out on how Zo fits. These first 20 games will be interesting for both of them.

Apart from being a nice in to Kluth and cap room place holder and movable deadline contract, Josh is the filling all the roles KCP was touted to fill when we first signed him.... and then some.

We've got some significant bright spots that I think will carry over.
Given the score, I usually wouldn't be inclined to view this as any sort of barometer, but I think the pace of this one, while certainly on the high end, is more in line with what we'll be throughout the season.
I think the fact that we've put up so many points with such abysmal perimeter shooting bears this out. We won't get so much of those interior points every night, particularly against tougher, savvier defensive teams, but I highly doubt our shooting stays this bad. Kuz and BI are better in that regard than they have been tonight.
Despite the score, we've created a lot of turnovers defensively, though some of those have been undone with some sloppy ballhandling.
Portland has killed us with quality ball movement. There have also been several plays where we played sound defense, but Portland simply executed.

Great looks on offense, have to work harder on the weakside box out, but really poor game defensively in the screen and roll defense. I couldn’t pick up any trend on what our PnR coverage was, it was that bad.

I'll defer to the fans to see what went wrong but those younger players (Hart, BI, Kuz) are going to be the key when we review this team again in a few months and LeBron goes on "LeFuckYou 3" mode.
Out of the three, I really think that Ingram is going to surprise casuals.
I dunno, I thought it would be "LeBron takes the team over" all over again, and it may well be -- but the roster, despite not having a clear cheat code, and the memes are high? Has me optimistic that we can finally see the end of the Golden Rain.

the former might happen a few times this year. but the latter should improve with more time together.
overall i liked most of what i saw. we competed w/ a tough team, on the road with lots of experience together with our team fresh out the box.
edit: the most encouraging thing i saw was that when bron went out, the bench stepped up everytime after his first absence to close Q1. that run to close the half showed me a lot.

and that's a good thing for both him and the team. Let the young horses accrue some mileage and let Bron pick his spots more. He was also getting actual rest (but they lost the lead within 90 seconds when he first sat which felt a lot like CLE) - but I like the system of Bron off the ball some, getting easy looks from Rondo - and allowing the young core to absorb some experience on the ball.
