"Weekend Soccer 09.29-30: Eden steven"

They met on Wednesday in a League Cup tie that went down to the wire, but it's no stretch to assert that tomorrow's rematch between the Reds and Blues will involve much higher stakes, as early in the season as this may be. Liverpool are flying high off 6 straight wins to open the season, while Chelsea had their first stumble at Cardiff last weekend.

The Madrid derby on Saturday, right on the heels of Real losing badly against Sevilla, could put Atleti right back into the thick of things

So, that's what Spurs will pay in January, because we need to recoup about 50 mill in fees to NOT be docked 12 points next season.

Not because they'll be better than mourinho. But because we get to start the cycle all over again and watch the players mail it in for yet another manager and get off relatively blameless.

PK injury is a problem. I don't trust Leno right now.

Uni needs to Move on, squeezing both Ramsey and Ozil every pl game isn't working. One or the other, let's get on with it, egos be damned.

Hopefully we'll keep our typical 2nd half improvement tend

Salah misses 3 in the first half that last year he probably scores at least two.

Firmino misses an open header. shaqiri misses a golden chance.

Then at the other end Hazard absolutely buries his chance.

Thankfully Sturridge finally got a nice finish off and what a finish it was.

LFC front 3 is still off their game. Time is running out to fix that.

Gomez was kind of stuck either way. If he starts moving towards Hazard, it leaves Giroud with a lot of space to receive the ball directly up the middle.

Plus Gomes had VVD there for cover with Giroud. Case can be made TAA shouldn't have gone in aggressively into the midfield but Klopp wants them breaking up midfield rhythm quickly.

LFC were basically in trouble as soon as Hazard Hazard'ed and TAA wasn't able to make an unlikely interception.

Giroud isn't beating VVD for pace (not even close) if he decides to make a run and on that play, Giroud decided to move toward the midfield to play his pivot role rather than making a run anyways. On that kind of midfield break, VVD's role isn't to intercept a ball into Giroud, it's to hold up Giroud so his defense can recover.

Gomes and VVD are in good position there until Gomes doesn't anticipate Hazard's danger level quick enough.

Yesterday's game was a microcosm of his management style. He starts with three wing players on the bench despite setting the team up 4-3-3. Jack Grealish and Jonathan Kodjia are on the wing despite being a midfielder and striker, respectively. Villa go into the half 2-0 up against the bottom team in the league. So we go out to sit back and absorb pressure for the entirety of the second half. Chester gets sent off for DOGSO, giving PNE a penalty. Bruce subs off Tammy Abraham, who was the lead cause of any sort of trouble, to put on James Bree, a right back, at center half because BRUCE HAS SOLD OR LOANED ANY DEFENSIVE COVER. They later equalize, and take the lead. By the end of the match, Villa have in four players who have played right back across the back four, four central midfielders playing across the center, and winger Yanick Bolasie as a central forward.

OH YEAH, and Villa got an injury-time penno, but GLENN FUCKING WHELAN took it and obviously missed.

Fuck you Brucie. Enjoy your payout.

In response to Reply # 46

so it's like you press/hold the first time to charge it up. then you press right when you connect with the ball again to activate the timed finished. they need to nerf it a bit because you can score some impossible goals a little too often with it.

LFC couldn't get anything going in their attacking 1/3 and Napoli was bombing everything down the left towards TAA and Salah...the last 30 mins was all Napoli and they finally nicked one for the deserved three points.
