Last year I remember saying how little suspense there was vis-a-vis actual contenders and someone spat out a list of every vaguely relevant team as if they could win a title. OKC, Toronto and other teams with zero chance were mentioned and I just let it ride but when the dude included DC I damn near lost it.

What about this team gives anyone the idea that it should be ambitious? They are the same if-we-make-the-second-round-we-will-throw-a-parade bunch of whatevers they have been for a long, long time now.

As far as Wall's comments, well, they were never "the team everyone was talking about" and what did they add? An insurance policy in case Wall gets hurt again (and not a very good insurance policy) and an ostensible upgrade at center that will surely be hated by everyone in the city not gainfully employed by a gentleman's club before the season ends.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

dude's made one 3rd team all nba and his top comps are sleepy floyd, bdiddy, and the immortal lucius allen.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/walljo01.html

a real good player, but not a hall of famer and slightly disappointing for a number 1 overall with all that athleticism.

I just don't see how a guy who will end up a 5X+ all-star
and among the top 20 players in the league for 10 seasons
can ever be considered a "disappointment," even for a #1
pick.

Y'all act like every other dude supposed to be franchise.

When you draft a guy #1, you expect a really good player
for a long time. Wall been that, and then some.

Look at 60 years of No. 1 picks, almost half of them have been franchise talents and many have been MVPs, champions and generally speaking the best of the best. Some were derailed by injuries but not before they accomplished more than Wall ever has. Here are the 30 best, excluding Wall for the sake of argument. Very few guys on this list have done less than Wall, maybe like Carr and Aguirre (2X champion though). Guys like Robinson, Lanier, maybe Brand and Griffin are close. Walton, Thompson, Rose and Sampson all did more in their short time at 100% than Wall ever has.

Elgin Baylor
Oscar Robertson
Walt Bellamy
Elvin Hayes
Kareem
Bob Lanier
Austin Carr
Bill Walton
David Thompson
Magic Johnson
James Worthy
Mark Aguirre
Ralph Sampson
Hakeem
Ewing
Brad Daugherty
David Robinson
Shaq
CWebb
Big Dog
Iverson
Duncan
Brand
Yao
LeBron
D Rose
Blake Griffin
Kyrie
Brow

a reasonable expectation for an overall 1 imo is MULTIPLE all nba selections (not all star, nobody cares about that shit), multiple top 10 mvp finishes (with a handful of top 5's), multiple finals/conf finals berths, and a solid HOF case upon retirement.

wall ain't even close at this point. he is a good player and i wouldn't necessarily call his career disappointing, but those who do aren't really being unfair tbh.

Get the team to 50 wins and a conference finals. Until John does that, nobody cares. They probably still won't care if he does that, but it would be nice as a Wizards fan to see.

He’s let Ernie clean up the mess he’s made and, indisputably, the roster is better than it was 6 or 7 years ago. But that’s not saying much.

On the other hand, Ted was ride or die with Ovi and at long last it paid off.
