If he's leaving, he should make a formal release about that first

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

If he’s leaving, I gotta imagine he’ll announce it through a press release.

Even with the added goodwill of coming back and winning a ring for Cleveland, there's no way he breaks Cleveland's heart on live TV a second time.

They don't WANT him to leave, obviously.

But most Cavs fans are fine with him leaving at this point,
totally understand his situation.

All I want to hear:

"I want to thank the city of Cleveland for taking welcoming me home. Thank you for memories."

We all know he's leaving but the question is where. LA is a good fit but they have to face the Warriors to get to the finals. Houston is a great fit but the Warriors exist in the conference. Boston is his easiest shot of getting back to the finals. Lebron to Boston or Houston is my prediction.

I hope he opts in so we get something back in trade value. If he doesn't opt in by June 29th then he's headed to the Lakers.

i think paul george is gonna stay in okc. i think the spurs are gonna keep kawai and take the risk. and like others in this thread...i think lebron making a big splash announcement means he is less likely to stick the dagger in cleveland again.

maybe the lakers end up with boogie, a young team more concerned with beefing on mixtapes, and lavar ball lol.

while sports media personalities think the franchise still possesses some mystical allure from the showtime era.

the clownishness of the dangelo russell and lonzo ball situations show where the franchise is in reality.

Meanwhile they haven't signed a big FA since Shaq, unless you count the ghosts of GP and the Mailman.

I wholly expect NyQuil to go there.

Maybe Kawhi next offseason. He ain't getting traded there.

And LeBron... well, I don't know.

In response to Reply # 43

The top of the roster was set for 15-20 years straight.

And it’s not hard to figure why it’s been tough to get FA’s the last 5 years. Tide is turning, young team is starting to get better, things will look a lot different by 2019.

What 2014 is some magic number? They have gone after Aldridge, LeBron, re-upping D12, etc. All whiffs. Between Shaq and roughly 2011 they WERE an FA destination. They are not anymore. We are talking about their fans thinking they are.

This is real but also in part a response to Coolidge's "Sixers haven't signed an FA since Moses Malone" garbage also. But mostly it's just looking at the fact that the Lakers are just another team in free agency now.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

All when the team sucked/was clearly on its way down. Young talent and cap space abounds now! It’s a new day.

Between Shaq
>and roughly 2011 they WERE an FA destination. They are not

When the teams were great every year. A few years of end of the line Kobe/rebuilding...:and now here we are. No big deal. Never a doubt.

Maybe location/tradition matters less now but cap space and the promise of winning will always matter and the Lakers have done a nice job of rebuilding those areas the last 5 years.

If he means he's making the 'announcement' on the 6th of July...

I'm intepreting that as...I'm going to opt out on Friday...enter FA on July 1...and announce my new team on July 6...

If he was opting in...you don't need a 'decision' spectacle...

Puts the LAL on the clock too...gives them 4 days to cloak

I imagine that sets off a series of events

and whatever godfather deal CLE can make has already been offered

you're right, it's possible the CLE offer is the highest bid

but I doubt it...and if he opted in or signed a new deal after opting out...that would be a better strategy for putting together the rest of CLE's roster

Feels like he opts out and keeps the league hostage for a week while potential foster parents scramble to upgrade the drapes

>Feels like he opts out and keeps the league hostage for a week

I've thought this for about a week or so now. Especially with Dwight getting bought out in BK. The Cavs are gonna try to figure out a way to get either Kawhi or PG in Clev (KLove and Draft picks will be the deal...including Sexton) and then they'll try to sign Dwight and fill out the roster with returns from last season (hood, green, Korver, etc) and try to make a run at it.

Failing that and any other significant moves Bron looks to LA to upgrade their roster PG and/or Kawhi and a few other moves to get the roster to contender status. Ball stays, BI or Randle or Kuz goes (or a combo of the group) and maybe some future first.

If Cavs can't get Bron to stay, Dwight goes to G-State and we get a G-State/Lakers Conf finals next yr. Lakers won't win unless Warriors are hurt or if they manage to get all 3 of PG, Bron, Kawhi...only shot they have IMO.

only way Kawhi gets to LA is if he's traded east to a team he doesn't want to play for and that team trades him to the Lakers for assets. If I'm Philly, I'd consider it but it's probably a few teams in the east that it might work for.

All of this is speculative. Seems to be narrowed down to L.A. or staying in Cleveland - which surprises me as I thought Houston & Philly would get more consideration - but I think it comes down to something quite simple: where will he and his family be most happy. I think that's what very well may keep him in Cleveland or make L.A. happen.

lakers arent even pursuing kawhi aggressively (according to woj):
https://twitter.com/ESPNNBA/status/1013298285262622720

i cant see bron going to l.a. without at least one of those two (im sure nba media will still try to stretch out the suspense tho).

boogie is the only dude they have a chance at now. he scheduled meetings with the lakers and pelicans (and will prolly stiffarm the lakers like everyone else lol).

but according to nba media...the lakers were serious contenders for *all* of these people.

continuing to portray the lakers as some marquee destination is journalistic malpractice at this point. nobody wants to play there. and nba media personalities are smart enough to know that. yet the universe of discussion still revolves around l.a. every off season.

im starting to think theres lowkey some conspiracy between talent agencies and sports media personalities (some of whom are represented by these agencies) to try to push athletes into los angeles.

If the Lakers aren’t pursuing Kawhi “aggressively”, but they know he’ll come there in a year then that’s savvy on their part. It’s basically the opposite of what the Knicks did with Carmelo. There’s a scenario where 12 months from now Kawhi is a Laker and Ingram, Ball, and Kuzmanare still his teammates.

Kawhi is San antonio’s Problem, not The Lakers.

(And, before you throw dirt on their grave Lebron may still go there)

Something tells me Bron ain’t really feeling a season with Boogie and Lavar as his wingmen,

If Bron goes to L.A. - at this point it seems like it's a family/lifestyle decision and not necessarily a basketball decision (unless somehow Kawhi joins Bron).

I really like Philly's pieces w/ Bron.

2 young budding stars with more upside than anyone on the lakers, none of the sideshow, in an easier conference with an almost guaranteed path to the finals.

cavs have a roster of spare parts (even after 2 trade overhauls), an inept front office, and an owner that seems hellbent on sabotaging bron (and his own team).

it seems like the only thing really keeping bron in cleveland would be sentimental attachment.

Both of whom are question marks concerning how their games will compliment LeBrons.

>none of the sideshow,

Philly has been the biggest sideshow franchise in the league this offseason.

Why trade your best player today when Leonard could join you FOR FREE next year? I think if Leonard were signed to a deal through 2022, Laker fans would think a lot differently about that deal.

interesting timing with news of the philly meeting.

also conflicting with the july 6th decision iii date (maybe pg re-signing so early made his decision easier?).

Decision has been made, I think, this process has been due diligence.

At this stage my gut feeling is that he is staying in Cleveland. Any sort of rational thought would have him completing the puzzle in Philly though, especially now that the Lakers' super-team potential is hanging by a thread
