"How the Lakers could land Bron, Kawhi & PG"

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23776431/how-lakers-land-lebron-james-paul-george-kawhi-leonard-nba-free-agency

With Kawhi requesting a trade - this seems wildly possible.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

They would still have to go to a 35-win team and build it essentially from scratch and on the fly (contrasted with joining a ready-made, 73-win title team) - and all three stars would be coming from another team - so there would be no star who could take the lead in familiarizing the others w/ the team/culture/environment.

Once one acquires nuclear weapons - the arms-race is on. And the NBA is now an arms-race league.

If Bron joins a team on the rise, hes a bitch.

If he joins up with other heavy hitters, hes an even
bigger bitch.

You drew the line with the Warriors, and now
the closer Bron lands to the line, the bigger
bitch he is.

Again, this is based on your standards.

* Reminder that GS is, outside of KD, home grown
certified organic.

So, if Bron builds a super squad that isnt even
a little bit homegrown, hes a bitch.

You yelled and cried too much last season.

If Bron goes super team (again) hes a bitch.

And bitch does not = goat.

I know you’ll want to draw a KD comparison, which
is fine.

But KD was never going to be a goat. So, pick
your measuring stick.

No goat ever went super team. Let alone twice.

I'm not one to put words into anyone's mouth....

But Durant joined a championship team that won 73 games....James joining two NEW players on a 30 plus win team is a much harder premise. They are essentially making an entirely new team on the fly. That's quite different, no matter the players involved....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2781288-kawhi-leonard-reportedly-wants-to-be-traded-by-spurs

Superstar forward Kawhi Leonard reportedly wants to be traded by the San Antonio Spurs, according to Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News.

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports added that Leonard has "grown uncomfortable" with the Spurs, leading to his reported desire to play elsewhere. After the news broke, rumors emerged linking multiple teams to Leonard.

Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Leonard favors a trade to Los Angeles, and the Lakers appeal to him more than the Clippers. However, the Clippers are also interested, per Wojnarowski. The San Diego State product is an L.A. native.

ESPN's Ian Begley noted that while several teams could likely put together a better offer than the New York Knicks, "people close to Leonard have expressed a desire for Leonard to play in New York."

KD did this in his prime so it stands as the pinnacle of coward move. Bron is 34 years old exiting his prime so this comparison is trash. The Heat comparison is trash because most of the warriors roster is filled with all-stars. Their top five alone beats those Heat teams so that comparison is out the window.

Bron cannot stand on his own two feet but KD needs a roster full of all-stars to win chips.

if Donkeylips bitch ass didn't call KD after getting their record-breaking season washed into memes?

KD could have gone anywhere else. He snaked his way onto that team, and now we have this. Laker Superteam Rumors.

the "KD did the same thing as LeBron in 2010" is being spearheaded by a think tank that houses silos of fertilizer between their ears.

talkin' about: "I inherited my shit from daddy" vs. "I built my fortune from my original idea"... nigga, please, fuck the end result if the path is some bullshit.

they were the best team with the cap space to meet his quote, and they pursued him

was he supposed to have some principle against making $26M on a great team?

and how would that principle apply to small groups of nameless NBA free agents operating outside of standard collective bargaining sessions to subvert what is supposed to be an open marketplace?

the warriors put a bid in and it was accepted. meanwhile, ESPN was talking about Dwyane Wade's efforts in 2010 as possible collusion WEEKS before anyone even signed.

im really not understanding this interpretation

KD went to the bitch move AFTER "YOUR KING" went to the bitch move FIRST(In his Prime).

Golden State in its current form does not exist without LeBron's move to Miami. Bron created a Monster and the Monster swept his weak ass. Enjoy this history and stop trying to rewrite it.

KD with the throat slash will be a money 30 for 30.

If you can get 2 elite wings in their prime and one all-time legend, you have to do it. Also, our core is deep enough where dealing BI and Kuz still means we have Lonzo, Hart, and if we can deal Deng, Randle.

We have his bird rights and can go over the cap to sign him.

So if we managed to pull off something like BI, Kuz, Deng, the 25, and, say Hart for Kawhi, then signed Brawn and PG, we could sign JYJ and conceivably field a core of Zo/PG/Kawhi/Brawn/JYJ.

We're already close enough that we can waive and stretch or extend and stretch to get under for two. Adding the other salaries, depending on what else we took back, should be enough to cover that hold.

the cap is 101.

to sign lebron and PG to their respective eligible maximums you'd need 66m in space. so no more than 35 or so on the books.

kawhi (20) lonzo (7 and change) and randle's cap hold already put you well over that. not to mention additional minimum salary cap holds for every empty roster slot.

nah, to thread that needle they'd have to renounce ALL of their free agents, randle included. the article in the OP breaks this down in detail.

I'm crazy conflicted right now.

I doubt we land Kawhi, but it's possible.

I'm willing to go in record saying that we'll make the playoffs next year with JYJ, BI, Kuz, Zo, Hart as our core, because I think everyone takes a significant step forward next year.

I think BI will happen next year. And in an undeniable way, and on both ends. Same with Kuz, though lessnon the defenive end.

I'm attached, but I think next year is the year we flip one or two and/or add that big time piece to the mix.

I'd have no reservations if I had no questions on Kawhis health.

But mostly, win, lose or draw? I'd like to see this current team get a chance to grow and flourish. In three years we're going to want BI and Kuz. Guaranteed.

If Philly dumps Bayless's salary somewhere they have very little committed salary, even less if they move Fultz+ for Kawhi. They could add Kawhi and LeBron plus have Embiid and Simmonds, plus they wouldn't necessarily have to move every piece of their supporting cast (though it would mean no JJ, no Fultz and possibly more guys gone also).

It's gonna be a wild ass race between LA, Boston and Philly to manage their situations and get what they can here. Let's not forget that other guys may potentially be on the market as well.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Lebron is HOLY SHIT LEBRON, but if we need to lose some combination of Randle/Kuzma/Ingram/Lonzo to assemble The Banana Boat Team... are we even good enough to challenge the Warriors?

Why are we in such a rush to win *NOW* (and trust, if Lebron is on the team, we have to win *NOW*) when we're not even sure if The Banana Boat Team can get past this Warriors team?

Why not sign George, keep Randle, wait till next year for the Kawhi/Klay/whoever sweepstakes, let the Warriors team deconstruct a bit, all while the core cooks? George + the Young Bucks still challenges for the playoffs next year while being better positioned for the next 5 years on top of that.

Of course Lebron and Kawhi are leagues better than the young cats.

That said... if the Lakers roster becomes Lebron/George/Kawhi/Ingram and other random warm bodies does that team definitively beat this Warriors team? I'm not so sure, and that's my point.

This next Lakers season is not a disappointment if we keep the young core intact, sign a big FA (George), resign Randle, compete in the playoffs and remain a big presence in the 2019 FA market.

This next Lakers season **IS** a disappointment if we get Lebron and Kawhi and don't win a **CHAMPIONSHIP**.

In the former scenario the Lakers have options now and in the future. In the latter scenario it's basically *MUST WIN NOW*.

If we do go the slow-burn route (which I'm perfectly ok with), the point is to eventually get to the *win now* level of expectations. However, that's not guaranteed.

If we are able to get Bron, Kawhi, PG - then we're guaranteed to be in that *win now* window.

The question becomes how likely do you think it is the current core along with FA's is able to get to that elite level of teams and which option gives the longest window. Obviously Bron is 33 but Kawhi and PG are 27 and 28, that's at least 4-5 years of championship contention...but if you think it's more likely this core + PG/Bron or PG + next year's FA = a longer window of eventual championship contention, then you go that route.

And that's absolutely a given if Lebron is on the team, no matter which way, shape or form.

There's just more risk involved in chasing that dream for *this* upcoming season. While PG is probably like 90% for a long term max, Lebron will probably take the mercenary 1+1 player's option and Kawhi (if Pop even trades with the Lakers) is an unrestricted FA next offseason. So worst case scenario those two guys might not be around and we gave up at least Randle and some combination of Ingram/Lonzo/Kuzma.

Is that future risk worth challenging this specific, historically dominant, record breaking Warriors team *THIS* year? What's the point, if that's nowhere a given and actually unlikely?

My whole position is largely predicated on the fact that this Warriors team exists. We can talk Lakers' roster moves all day but if it doesn't beat the Warriors (as currently contstructed)? Why take that risk when we're still players for Kawhi (and Klay) next season?

Kuzma's year one numbers are on par or better than all of their year two seasons, and in fact his rookie season more closely resembles PG and Giannis in year threep

It's downright stupid to trade either of them now, because we're selling low.

Zo's numbers are excellent year one numbers for a point guard.

to me moving Ingram is a non-starter.... not doing it.... for a guy who could come as a free agent in a year..

a line up of Ingram at the point with Kawahi…..PG....Le Bron….. that's playstation-ish….

but we don't need to be desperate here....

Ingram is the only guy on a lengthy rookie deal that has shown the potential to be a true weapon on a title-contending team— especially if he’s not first option. You can keep him another 3 years and even after that, he’s restricted— a guy who did 16 PPG at age 20. With that deal. Toss the rest if you have to, but that versatility in the modern NBA is priceless.

Everyone else is a great piece in trade. With versatility the name of the game, guys like Bron and Kawhi and PG would be exceptional, especially together.

I'd bank on the cost-controlled 20 year old and the reat of the squad to improve as they have been and add a major piece like Kawhi to a burgeoning group of young, athletic players instead of gutting the team for him and putting all of our money into three guys, without the resources to build a strong supporting cast around them at a time when GS has four all stars with roster depth and chemistry around them.

the Lakers can afford to wait. some major free agency moves are coming in the next couple of seasons. They can nab Lord NyQuil now and wait to see who comes up in the near future.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Is there a reason he can't be a contributing bench player? I don't understand what happened to this guy. Artest, iguodala, Jefferson, marion... all SF's who went on to be productive veterans.

and the fact that on the Lakers we had a bunch of young players at the same positions he would play, and there was no point in taking minutes from them for Luol Deng

but on a contending team...he could give you some minutes

Superstar mash ups dont work when all the players have the same type of game, as evidences by Paul George's recent attempt at a "super team"

Is anyone worried about leaving any of the other three wide open for a jump shot?

If so, I’ll stand corrected.

All four of them would be in the starting five. Where’s the shooting gonna come from?

Those stats can be broken down further though. For instance, in the shooting percentage, how many of those points were from lay-ups. I’ll look that readily available info up and get back to this.
