Game 4 he definitely made adjustments on both ends of the floor (going inside more on offense--let's not forget Jim O'Brien's chucking ass is there--plus defending the perimeter better and adjusting Simmons' role and minutes).

I wouldn't be mad if Brown got canned but I think he will get one more year. He definitely went from comfortable AF to on the hot seat, much like Casey did. Casey had a sweep last year working against him, a rocky relationship with his not-signed-long-term star and the idea that he basically thinks he has to wait out LeBron's departure to really compete (which is true) working against him. Still seems fucked up but not exactly out of nowhere.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

The team went from under 40 wins to 53 and won a playoff series. They're at least one year ahead of schedule and for a team that hadn't had ANY success, have seemed to create a good culture.

I get it that he kind of wet the bed as far as his adjustments but to me he's earned at least another couple of cracks at it.

Even Mark Jackson had two playoff runs before he got axed, right?

It's never good to see a black man join the unemployment line. I expected him to at least last until the start of next season. It's pretty obvious Toronto flamed out badly, but that's pretty terrible for dude to get canned so quickly.

Out of curiosity, outside of the dude that fleeced the Knicks twice a while back, do the Raptors have one else of color in the front office?

I woulda wanted him gone too.

Back-to-back sweeps…not just that they lost to Cavs, but the sweeps, and the fact that the team clearly was mentally and physically checked out at the end...

He is a good coach but the team is done after that.

Totally different style of coach from Thibs who wore out both his welcome and his players…but at a certain point it became clear that Bulls team had peaked, and were never going to get over that hump.

At that point you wish everybody well and send them on their way. Players too.

That's really it.

You can't all come back next year and look each other in the face and pretend you believe in each other anymore.

It shouldn't be anything personal. Casey a good coach but what is even the point in coming back unless they ship out everyone who quit on you.

he's an obvious fall guy here. I'm not even sure this one is primarily about racism but business. Really hard to sell season tickets with the same doomed cast coming back (although choosing the black head coach as the guy to go is not NOT racist).

But back to Casey. He's leaving Toronto at their absolute apex. No coach is going to do better with this talent than he did, and the talent is aging, so it's very likely the team is immediately much worse next year. There's zero doubt in my mind he gets another shot within 12 months. if he had stuck around to preside over the raptors demise, i'm not sure he would have.

derozan and lowry just aren't good enough. casey did an amazing job getting the team to be as good as he did with those two, but those two were never getting a team over the hump.

Those guys fold like lawn chairs every year.

I just don't see how firing Casey is the answer to a talent issue

I'd be inclined to blow up the roster and let Casey coach up the new guys

why the double-standard that Casey must go and it's all his fault? We don't do that to other coaches for top teams in the East.

While not completely drastic, the Cavaliers have gone through changes while LeBron's been with them; from the David Blatt firing to the whole madness with the trades with this season. Heightened expectations hit teams LeBron plays against and personnel he plays with as well.

after they lost to the Bulls for the 3rd yr in a row.

He won 60 games with that team which was the 2nd best in the league (just like Tor winning 59 which was second to Hou).

The year after, MJ retires, Knicks go to the finals and lose.

Toronto might have had an opportunity next year if Bron leaves Cle and goes west (though Boston and to a less extent Philly would have been huge hurdles).

I think they gave up on him a yr too early. Sometimes it's just that ONE guy holding you back from getting there.

Did they get swept twice in a row?

Does the name Duane Casey got the same amount of weight as Riley's did then?

He took this rapscallion group of kids and rejects and turned them into a perennial regular season juggernaut. and then...lebron.

people will talk about the 59 wins, but this team should have won 63 or 64. their last month or two of the regular season shower real regression defensively and a return to bad habits. they limped (maybe too harsh, but they didn't soar) to 59 wins. that bled into the playoffs. just like it did the previous year, and the year before that (when they got SWEPT by the wizards in round one and people were calling for Caseys head then).

You can simultaneously praise him for the sum of his parts, the regular season success, while simultaneously acknowledging that at some point the raptors are a great regular season team, and a poor playoff team. It took virtually ALL the games vs Brooklyn, Indiana and Miami in order to get embarrassed by LeBron. This team NEVER made it easy on themselves in the playoffs. Forget make it easy,...they actively would regress and STRUGGLE to wins in the playoffs. DeMar and Kyle aren't fakers. They are all stars, but they've never competently shown up in the playoffs for extended periods. You can't have a sophomore Bench Mob if the All Stars force the bench to carry all that weight.

I love Casey. I think if he can make great teams exceptional. But he couldn't make a great team play like even themselves in the playoffs. Time to respectfully say our thank you's and move on to a different approach.

teams that go 63-19 or better are historically great teams. You went 40-12 in conference, beating up on a lot of mediocre to horrible teams. Love wasn't himself most of the year for whatever reason (injuries, Isaiah Thomas team cancer, etc) but he's dialed in now. No way your "Portland Trailblazers +" style team was better than the greatest player of this era + a focused, healthy Love. You should never fire a coach whose team is on an upswing. The Rockets gonna fire Pringles when the Warriors beat them in 5???

Lotta factors here and this gives him an opportunity to find a situation with more upside. The Raptors reached the peak of what they could achieve. If he ends up in Milwaukee, hey, that's a better deal for all involved parties, mainly Casey and the Bucks. If he ends up in some shithole job like Sacramento or Phoenix, then it's business as usual for black coaches getting dogged out.

before Beilein's name was in the mix tho, i wanted someone younger. Stackhouse was my #1, but id have been thrilled with Ime Udoka or Becky Hammon.

Casey is just meh to me. This roster, if healthy, was going to make the playoffs either way (record with Reggie Jackson this year projected to 3 seed) and its annoying that they hired a guy who has a track record of "just ok" in the postseason. Id have preferred an unknown with a ceiling, rather than a vet with a high floor.

still think they should have let Stan have his last year to make a stand with the roster he built, but oh well. we shall see.

very obvious. Blake has stated as much about his ability

No, he wasn’t getting an elite job, but he could’ve gotten a Brooklyn or a Charlotte level job if he sat out a year. Now he’s going to be blamed for missing the playoffs with this bullshit roster,

including 8-4 with Reggie and Blake

SVG must be the greatest coach of all time if the roster is why Casey is losing

Just an absolutely pathetic waste of space.

And to top it all off, no one spends more time bragging (read:lying) about their personal life on here than you.

Not that anyone believes you.

This is Blake's, or Casey's, fault?

Like this team would have been better BEFORE that trade? These other players are terrible. The Pistons have the worst guard play in the league, bar none, including the team that employs Kris Dunn and fucking Zach Lavine in those spots.

this team was good after the teade, with healthy regfie, under SVG

they were also good before the trade, with healthy Reggie, under SVG

they are not good now, with healthy Reggie AND Blake AND Andre. give me one compelling reason to give Casey a pass.
