Carmelo has the worst genes out of all of them,
always been the least athletic of that bunch (including
Bosh). So that his fat and old decline faster is normal.

They all Springfield bound, though.

And it frustrates you.

You're going to go back to slamming Carmelo Anthony's nationality again? I'm not that big a fan of the dude, and I think this is a bit wrong

Do you though.

"Old shell" stole a game for his team and has been their best player on offense.

I'm not at all frustrated that those guys are going to the HOF. I don't have anything against Melo apart from when people tried to put him in the same breath/paragraph/book as the real greats. Dude is like CWebb, all-time great talent, all-time very good player. Not surprisingly you ride for both because you grew up in a city where mediocrity (cough John Starks cough) was celebrated.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Carmelo all first step quickness, quick leaping, and
footwork. Always have been.

He's a hard working, cerebral African Latino, and he's going to
Springfield.

And y'all mad.

LeBron is the only one from that draft class still going strong. Which is not surprising. 2003....15 years ago.

the game they win he starts out 9 of 10 and hits daggers. The game they almost win he hit big shots to keep them in it. Given his age and mileage, he should be dead, yet he can still dick you over. The Toronto series was what, two years ago? What did Melo do in those playoffs? Re-doing that draft you'd be insane not to take Wade over Melo.

But lingering around the arc waiting for that dribbling rabid wolverine to pass to him is not that situation

He does look shot. But if Ray Allen can get buckets in 2013 so can Melo today. He just needs a less stressful and more inclusive environment where everyone has a defined role and isn’t asked to make more than their specifically-assigned contribution. There’s no gameplan to what they do in OKC. There’s no identity other than “we have one hyper talented dude but he’s kind of a maniac”. Donovan looks like he’d rather be anywhere else, PG is scratching the days off on his calendar until he hits free agency, and Melo is on the decline left wondering what he’s supposed to do in 2018.

Ray allen was still a top spot up shooter in 2013.
He had a role...and he excelled at it.

What is melo's perfect situation at this point?

My point was he can still make those shots no different than ever. His athleticism is shot. The hope that he’d morph into a 40% from 3 spot up shooter hasn’t happened. But it’s not like he’s shooting the 3 worse than normal.

And in theory, had more uncontested looks this season...which means he actually shot worse.

In response to Reply # 21

Though it’s a fair point that he started taking and making significantly more of them around the time he got to NY so maybe for the second half of his career, 36% isn’t actually “better”.

Theoretically he should be taking more open ones(and he certainly missed some very open ones last night) so the percentage should be better. The other side of that is he’s in a much different role than his first 14 years. Going from the primary scorer who always has the ball, to a spot up shooter who rarely has the ball is different. And doing it with OKC - an offense that’s been a hard watch even when KD was there - might be a tough place to break into a new role.

Now, 36% for his role? That’s not what you’re hoping for out of a spot up shooter. I think you want 38-40% from 3 out of him in that role, and while he would seem to have the stroke to do that if that’s his primary role - he hasn’t done it.

But what I was pointing out is he’s actually shot the 3 better than he usually does.

It’s a new role for him and it would seem to be a good one at this stage of his career, but it hasn’t worked out all that great this season.

His D doesn’t look much different than it ever did. Never great and bad at certain things, but better than the rep he gets for it.

but, he would have definitely been better suited coming in with the second unit. Like DJR said, he can still make those shots...AND on defense he is a lot better than people think, but I realize this is a cookin post, so cookin gone take place. He's out of place trying to guard fuckin Derrick Favors...another of Billy's failures. His rotations blow, for the most part. Melo, unless he's fire emoji offensively, should not be closing games out...Grant is much better suited. He also buried Huestis on the bench, when the kid is big, strong and athletic as fuck.

because he such a black hole on the offensive side of the court, but given that the OKC roster is so top heavy, it figures that missing one of the smaller cogs for that team would eventually rear it's ugly head.

that have basically been "the man" on every team they've ever been on to being a 3rd option. Ray Allen's worst year in Boston was probably his first he was terrible starting out but picked up steam late in the season and in the playoffs and arguably could've been Finals MVP over Paul Pierce.

I think Melo could be better in a better situation.

like i said in 'October'

That's the better situation lol

He's not an elite 3pt shooter or defender so he's not valuable playing next to today's stars.

His best bet is to come off the bench, and give scoring punch off the bench when he has it, and not play when he don't...like a rich man's michael beasley or something.

I'd say he'd be to opulent man's michael beasley.

Would be pretty wild to have him play the bench given his terrible contact, but it would make the most sense with is skill set and the fact Westbrook plays such is ball dominant role with the team.

with the idea. I don't feel like searching for it though.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Dude is done. OKC fans are in here vouching for him, but this guy will never accept being what he is at this point, which is a Vince Carter-level contributor, a guy who comes off the bench to steady things and get buckets.

Everyone thinks that because Melo has more skills than a guy like Ingles, he should be beating him, but it's about how you can use those skills at a certain level. His margins were always tight with the kinds of shots he likes to launch, so when he loses a step, his jab step scares fewer people, his handles creates less separation, and his lift on jumpers diminishes. In the CBA, Melo would probably be much, much better than Ingles or an anonymous player like Royce O'Neal. In the NBA, with NBA sized and skilled defenders, he's kind of way worse.

The league changed on him and he can’t seem to find his way to being on a team where he could be used properly. And I’m not confident that he cares as much as folks want him to about actually winning something.

Melo isn't done. Does he look bad? Yes. Has he declined? Yes. But a lot has to do with where he is playing. He is a guy at this point in his career that will benefit a lot from structure and defined role. OKC's offense isn't for him. There are no cuts, no screens, no nothing. OKC's offense works for only one guy, Russ. The coach, and Russ are the biggest issues. Said it here first week of the season, as long as they all stand around and watch Russ do his thing, they are going no where.

I fully expect PG to leave at the end of the season. I expect Melo to collect his 28 mil. and suck there for one more year. I expect Russ to keep being Russ with a scowl and having no clue, while padding stats.

Next yeah is going to be whatever. But I could also see him being motivated if he decides he wants to contribute to a winner after his current contract expires.

He can end his career as the super-charged version of late-career Vince Carter.

He could well decide to take less money and fill a role with Miami, Houston, and whatever team LeBron is on at the time.

Or he could sign a big contract with a lousy team to keep the gravy train going (less likely). Or he could just to say "fuck it," because he's made enough money doing this and retire (I want to say this is the most likely scenario).

The lead guy in Big 3s usually sacrifices some part of their game. Russ didn't sacrifice shit which hurt the team. Bare in mind Melo essentially learns all of this new role on the fly with PG's decision looming over the team.

Melo just needs a supportive environment in the Eastern Conference as a second option. This is the most critical offseason of his career.

And they weren't winning shit. Russ starts playing like Russ and they start winning. I get it, people don't like Russ but damn y'all blame him for everything wrong with OKC. I never thought Roberson's injury would affect them like it did but damn if it didn't. They were clicking well when he went out. The problem in all of this is Billy Donovan. He doesn't coach Russy or call plays. Durant didn't get better bc he left OKC, he's on a team with a coach that calls fucking plays and makes him more efficient.

Russ did defer heavily to PG and Melo at the beginning, in an attempt to make them comfortable. It was obvious to anyone who watched. So much so that Melo told Russ, "don't adjust to us, we'll adjust to you...we need you to be you". The other thing that had to happen, was Billy and Melo had a talk and what came out of it is Melo couldn't do the "get the ball at the elbow, face your man, jab step 18 times and pull up" thing, anymore. He said he embraced his new role and I believed him, problem is Billy wouldn't or couldn't do what needed to be done...bring Melo off the bench.

as if players don't inevitably get old.

And ppl in here comparing him to one of the top 3 players to ever touch a damn basketball as some kind of proof he should be playing better.

He was in the All Star game a year ago for fucks sake.

He's miscast in his role as a Big 3 go to scorer this year. He's not that guy anymore. The lack of ball movement in OKC and the spot up shooter thing doesn't suit his skill set the best. Melo can still have his way 15 feet and in and have offensively dominant games here and there, and maybe he'll transition in to something like that in a year or two and look more respectable than he has this year.

But some of y'all might as well just say you hate Melo, always have, and KIM. Because using Father Time as an excuse to hate is real petty.

I want him to take that 28 mil and go RIGHT to Malecon.

http://maleconrestaurants.com/

I want him Big Baby fat, at least.

Or fatter.

And I want him LAUNCHING.

Get close to top 20 all-time scorer as possible.

He don't need to care. Why SHOULD he?

Y'all ain't gonna respect the GREAT shit that he did. Y'all
gonna FIND a problem....so fuck it! GIVE people a REAL
reason to hate. Have fun, get fat, and launch.

Again: Why not?

Russ' inefficient chucking ain't worth shit. Russ fighting
fans like a little bag of hoecakes.

So why should Melo care?

And supposed "star" Paul George is a sleepy head goofball.

Go for SELF.

Lala gonna file for divorce soon, so use that 28 million wisely.

Go for self.

if you lead a team to a chip, you're Great

if you are Dumars/Worthy/Pippen for a few chips, youre Great

beyond that its a murky mix of statistical achievement and team success

mitch richmond aint great, and imo, neither are nique, or melo, or malone, or ewing (sorry). doesnt mean all of them arent HoFers tho.

Clyde Drexler was more “great” in Portland than he was when he helped Houston win a title.

Glen Rice was much closer to “great” in Charlotte than he was as a declining 3rd wheel champion in L.A.

In response to Reply # 124

i dont care if any of those dudes were better at playing the game. ewing had his chances to be great, and getting out of the second round twice in a career doesn't cut it. stars who win titles achieve greatness, particularly as a finals mvp.

its not an assessment of someone's ability. its an assessment of their success and achievements. and frankly, most of the people who have achieved greatness in my eyes are people i fuckin hate anyways. i have no personal affinity for shaq, wade, bird, jordan, kareem, mchale, bron, T5T (yes, great). in fact, many of them disgust me. but thats whos been king of the hill in my lifetime, and thats who gets to be called great.

on the other side of that coin, while i love hating on Bron and i love when he loses basketball games, those guys i named above (and some unnamed guys i DO like) are the only people im ever comparing him to. so when i shit on bron just to be hater, its still relative to the fact that his only competition for a legacy is other greatness.

so i wont argue against all the dudes you named being better than Dumars as a player. its irrelevant to me. unless you want to bring up Reggie Miller...THAT I will argue. He aint great either btw.

>Clyde Drexler was more “great” in Portland than he was
>when he helped Houston win a title.

his peak as a player happened in Portland, but to me he achieved greatness by being a 2nd option on a title team and leading 2 others to the Finals.

>Glen Rice was much closer to “great” in Charlotte than he
>was as a declining 3rd wheel champion in L.A.

glen rice did not achieve any professional greatness at all, so the fact that he was better when he was younger doesnt mean anything.

He's not coming off the bench making $28 million a year. Hell, if PG doesn't come back, I seriously doubt that OKC will sign anything that it would make sense worth benching 'Melo over.

However, if he wants to play for a contender after '18-'19, chances are he'll have to go to a situation where it's a better for him to be an off-the-bench player.

Truth is, I believe him when he says he's got a lot left in the tank. He just needs to adjust his expectations of what his post '18-'19 role will look like. He can probably be able to sign for a lousy team for good money and start. Or, if he doesn't want to do that either, retirement remains an option after next season. Some players don't feel like they **need** to have a championship ring to justify their careers, and that's fine.

so he better learn how to hit them open shots or shutup on the bench and cash them checks.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

They got him to knock down open looks when their big two got doubled and he couldn't even do that for him. In Game 7 he only played like 20 minutes, too.

Yeah, his athleticism has declined. But he can still go to work in the mid range. It doesn’t have to be your whole offense like with the Knicks(because they had no talent), but making him solely a spot up shooter doesn’t seem like the best use of him.

That OKC offense has felt disjointed for years, even when they had GS on the ropes in the playoffs two years ago.

You want them to run sets for the 3rd option?

Or why don't they let him start the first 2 mins. Then he comes right out, and comes back in with the 2nd unit.

He's gotta meet the team halfway at least.

if that's the man's bottom line, I guess it is what is. They'll figure out something. Maybe he opts in and they buy him out, a la D. Wade with the Bulls. I dunno. The other issue...and they were reiterating this when I was listening to Hoop Collective, today...he's a liability on defense. Utah targeted him everytime he was on the floor. Crowder destroyed him, Favors did him dirty, or the put him in action and Donovan went at him.

Mike Dunlap... He needs to humble himself.

If you stay around long enough, you eventually come off the bench.

Either that or retire.

I want him to get that bread, because it's his. But be the best 6th man you can be.

I watched Sam Presti's end of season, "state of the union" yesterday. Over an hour long. Probably like 4 times he mentioned a core of "Russ, PG and Steven" that they were hopeful to have for many years to come. Never once included Melo in that. I think if (when) he opts in, they'll stretch him. 9.3 the next three years beats 27.9 next year. It would allow us to keep Jerami, who's probably gonna get a nice little pay raise from someone and add another piece. Obviously, if Paul leaves, that changes things, but I don't see Melo actually playing for us next season.

being in the "purple and gold" is not gonna make him change his opinion of himself. That's the whole problem. If he was cool with coming off the bench, he wouldn't be on the move.
