niko mirotic, in alvin gentry's offense, is a better fit next to anthony davis than demarcus cousins is.
cousins is obviously the better player, but he and AD are both centers and we need to stop pretending otherwise. there's a cap on how much you can play 2 traditional bigs together in the modern nba, especially in an offense like gentry's. it's not something that's sustainable in the long term.
they're crazy if they pay him that supermax this summer. spend that bread on some 3&D wings and KIM.

Cousins doesn't make the team better as much as many players who probably aren't nearly as good as he is. Basketball really is about finding the right puzzle pieces and specialists (which is why that 6'7"ish power forward in college who just beasts on everyone never amounts to shit in the NBA).
I didn't watch enough of their games to see if they had any high-low post game going on, but with the devaluation of mid-range shots, it probably doesn't matter much unless one of them is an LA or KD level mid-range shooter.

Cousins on NO was frustrating to watch early in the season when he'd just hang back and try to shoot 3s. The period where Cousins was playing great was when he was embracing his role as a big man and co-existing with AD.
Davis needs a star wing with him if they are gonna win a title.
What I'd LOVE to see happen is Kawhi skate on SA and go to NO (outside of my pipe dream of AD coming home to the Chi and leading our young core to the promised land). A secondary strategy might be to go after Will Barton, Ersan and Nerlens. Might be able to land all 2 with a few moves. Nerlens can back up AD at C and when they need to go big can slide in next to him. Barton brings D and offensive firepower but he's gonna be pricey. Ersan earned a raise playing with Philly but he'd be great for their bench. Sign them all then go over the cap to bring Rondo back on a reasonable 3 yr deal (2 guaranteed with 3rd yr team option).
Kawhi makes them an instant top 4 team and contender. The second option, makes them a top 7-8 team with a shot at the conference finals.
