and he created all that chaos just by being aggressive when the ball bounced.

he also does great work (the video of him playing football with kids in the streets is super dope).

but he was a diver. He was a whiner. He still whines. He also gives shitty ass quotes that are dripping with ego.

i mean, stories like these aren't written about most superstars:

he aint lying tho. he just doesn't conform to the media trained answers we expect from athletes. zlatan says it and its endearing. ronaldo says it and its a problem.

CR7 is the guy who gets pissed when his teammates score goals.
I can't fucking stand him for the above mentioned reasons and more.
That goal was a thing of beauty though. I can't front.

It's an unnecessary qualifier that someone always feels the need to bring up when 'begrudgingly' acknowledging his greatness. Douchebaggery is not a stat. How you feel about his personality has no place in a conversation about what he's done on the field. There's no place for a 'but' when talking about Soccer here. We don't need to own it, you need to let it go. Go make a post about his interviews like he's Mourinho if you want, but after that game, or after any title, bringing that stuff up just sounds bitter.

LMFAO @ okaysports being a hate free zone.

wtf have you been reading these years?

this is a post about the CL quarterfinals. It'll have love and hate.

I don't need CR7 fans to always talk about how he's a dick. but when someone makes the extremely true statement "he's a dick" don't defend the indefensible.

The original reply was someone (Promo) explicitly mentioning how he doesn't get how anyone could hate on Cristiano...and it was succintly explained how he could be hateable.

Even the fact that Promo doesn't understand how CR7 could be hateable is a little silly...like cmon.

It's a PROMO post, have you not read PROMO posts on CR7 here for however long every CL? The reply was all about THAT goal after it happened, that Juve was applauding him for, "like are you not entertained" as PROMO said, and replies start quoting the hater part of his post mentioning douchebaggery in past interviews and diving. Yeah I guess posts aren't 'LIVE' time wise but if those are the arguments being brought up I stand by what I said. PROMO never denies he's a dick, he just laughs and yells DA GAWD and ignores that part of your response as he should. Zlatan might be funnier "to you"/in the general comedic sense, but Ronaldo fans are probably laughing along with him.

I just get annoyed with these reactions to things like this in general, like with Kanye, I wish he was the Kanye I still want around but when people just 'don't like him' I get annoyed with them even more. Here, it just kinda reads like white people dealing with Serena or Tiger Woods (whatever Van said in the Helen episode) but its not racism so they stand by it, his douchebaggery is brought up like its a sexual assault charge. No one needs to own up to him being a dick, its not really an argument anyone is having, but I guess we don't have entire posts like Lebron gets to have this convo in OKS so it all happens here lol.

which is why I don't usually post anything. And I watch recordings at home after work, that message was me bored at work. My response was probably a bit cuz it read like dudes are watching ronaldo in the moment thinking about shit he said in an interview or his dives at the 06 world cup or something, who reads timestamps. it was broader than just oks too probably, my rec soccer team is all Portugal haters so I'm shaking my head at a lot more irrational Ronaldo shit regularly.

follow promo's lead, say you don't care, don't argue about it. he's a dick. so are many (most) elite athletes. doesn't take away from MJ (dick) or Kobe (DIIIIIIIICK) or Neymar (dick, but I mostly blame his super-dick father), etc.

we can't all have a GOAT like Messi...

It's more the attitude. I'm actually a Messi fan, like I wish I could play Soccer like him, but I kinda moved past the idea that anyone has to have that 'better person' attitude anymore. My sisters the RM fan, my Messi concessions annoy her, but I've got their back otherwise. So much of the 'hate' you come across is ingrained in this European attitude towards Portugal, and when you see that context regularly it's mostly dicks calling him a dick. But most of the Messi haters I know are all South American so I assume it's a regional bias too, when anyone's response to the acknowledgement of someone's talent is 'I don't like the guy' and that's it, I mean come on. But yeah, no one's minds are changing lol.

no offense to the PL but we really don't know what we have with City yet (as far as the European stage goes). Will be fun to see if Pool can replicate their success at home against them, or if Guardiola will manage to shackle their forwards effectively

Obviously the goal is just straight jaw-dropping, words can't even do it justice...but then the standing ovation and realizing the moment from the Juve crowd, the entire context was just incredible.

Bravo.

Every image around that goal just cements the moment. Zidane looking stunned on the sideline with his hand on his head. Buffon and Barzagli's reactions. The crowd's reaction and his acknowledgement of the applause. It was all pretty special.

Klopp does just that.

If that was the case for us, we'd be sitting deeper and attacking on the counter.

In response to Reply # 0

Had Gundogan on the wing, except all game he tracked too far inside so Liverpool was straight assaulting them down his side.

Which is not to take away from LFC's attack. Ox had the game (and strike) of his life.

And the defense was rock solid most of the game. I'm loving TAA and Robertson at fullback.

almost looks like Pep set his squad as a reaction to Liverpool (and whiffed), when usually City's strength is they don't let things be dictated to them

Also Kompany is starting to be suspect. Could be a problem for Belgium this summer

the fact that they feel like they have failed this year because of the last 7 days is glorious. they may go on to set the points record in the league. but they are not nearly one of the greatest league sides ever and this season will be remembered for this week.

but Pep can't show the ref up like that, not at half time.

By the letter of the law City should have had a second goal when it deflected off Milner. But to say that was a 100% clear cut attempt to play the ball (rather than a deflection) is a tough argument.

wrong call? probably

Them boys went out there and advanced against all odds in anything but a fluke - they beat the ever-living shit out of one of the world's great sides. That it was *only* 3-0 rather flatters Barca.

Dzeko is a club legend off of two seasons. DDR is eternal. Schick probably played his best game for us so far. And the defense and pressing was just unreal.

This is easily the biggest Roma win I've ever personally seen in 10+ years of rooting for them. And with the exception of the No Fly Zone utterly humbling Cam in SB 50, it's probably the most enjoyable win I've ever witnessed as a fan in any sport.

We've been playing with house money... but fuck it, let's win this thing. Why not.

not even gonna argue if that was or wasn't a penalty, but what a tough way to lose. would have loved to see that go to extra time.

I dgaf how tough a break you've just been dealt, you can't push around the ref.
Would've been cool to see Ronaldo v Buffon, tho I don't think the result would've been any different

I already know there are gonna be a bunch of takes about how resilient Madrid is and blablabla, when they got shown up at home despite Zidane warning his team for days to not be complacent. Granted if Ramos plays things would've been different

what a goddamn week of futbol, phew

In response to Reply # 0

When I first heard about it, you know I was thinking "cmon"...but then I saw the replay. Two hands in the back before the ball gets there, clear as day, stone cold penalty...could have even been a red card considering it took away a clear goal scoring chance.

Adding to that, I watched the extended highlights, and the side judge got the call wrong on Isco's goal that was taken off due to offsides. He was level and 1-1 there completely changes the complexion of the game.

Unfortunate that Buffon ends his CL career like that but it was foolish for him to lose it there considering how obvious the foul was and the fact that he would have had a chance to stop the ensuing PK. He should have been pissed at his central defense for allowing an unmarked striker in the box - not sure exactly what happened but I'd guess it was a communication, switching snafu.

Isco call was super close, the defender's legs were likely covering him but there's nothing egregious about the call. No idea why you're referring about something happening in the 13th minute in relation to the craziness on the PK call. This whole idea about "the game would've been different" is based on such a weird fallacy that one single call would've been made differently and yet nothing else in the game would change. OK, if it's a particularly erroneous decision at the end of a game why not, but there are literally no games that do not hinge on 1-2 moments being decided otherwise, if you nitpick enough.
Not taking this out on you personally, but I see so many commentators going with this line of reasoning and it's so tedious. Guess that's why we'll be dealing with the horrors of VAR in Russia

rant over (tho I may need a VAR thread during the WC so I can yell into the void)
