""What if...?" years"
Mon Apr-02-18 01:32 PM by cgonz00cc

As of today the Pistons are 25-15 with Reggie Jackson on the court, and 12-25 without him

Thats REALLY annoying

Maybe even more annoying than Josh Nesbitt breaking his arm in 2010 making a damn tackle at VT up 21-7 and in the ACC Coastal driver seat.

MAYBE even more annoying than the picked up PI flag against Dallas in 2014 'offs...maybe.

But probably not as annoying as Mike Babcock going with Manny fucking Legace over Chris Osgood in the 2006 playoffs. Thats a stinger.

add on

Houston Oilers, every years of my high school life, broke my heart.

And honestly, the loss at home to the Chiefs, after everything they had overcome that season, was possibly worse than the Buffalo debacle.

Warren was before his time. If they had had rules protecting the QB, AT ALL, those Oilers teams would have won multiple titles and it wouldn't have taken 15 more years for the Run-N-Shoot to take over the league (with a new name, and a shotgun formation)

that strike (or rather the conditions that forced it) really ticked me off

MLB never really recovered after that (even if they did rebound in the Sosa/McGwire era)

He was trying to control the ball by tapping down on it, missed, and then slipped trying to retrieve it. He would have at least gotten to the ball (50/50 at least with Demba Ba) if he doesn't slip

Just a really shitty series of events.

Scottie Thurman's 3 in 94.

Langdon doesn't take the extra step in 99.

Okafor's offensive rebound in 2004.

Kyrie's toe, obviously.

Grayson's shot this year will likely rank up in the top 5-6 of these in the long haul.

Josè Valentìn cracks it like he did all year and we romp the rest of the game. Poor Aaron Heilman probably had a solid rest of his career after that, too.

One and done tournaments are always dicey, but Syracuse was the best college basketball team that season.

What if Syracuse didn’t suspend Fab Melo for the 2012 tournament and just played him anyway? NCAA wipes it out anyways if they win - but who cares?

What if Kenny Anderson goes to Syracuse like expected? Kenny, Owens, and Coleman plus Stevie Thompson, Dave Johnson, LeRon Ellis - we might not remember UNLV the same way.

He was a much better player for that system than Memphis, he would have been a nice 4th/5th option in that 5 (Kidd, Carter, RJ and Krstic), his backside help skills would have been perfect. Alas.

Yeah, that team was missing a PG but was otherwise loaded with talent. That was the season after Sherman Douglas left and the season before Adrian Autry came.

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/kenny-andersons-relationship-with-his-mother-and-his-money-profiled-in-new-film-mr-chibbs-2017-05-02?siteid=yhoof2&yptr=yahoo

“I wanted to go to Syracuse University, but my mother went to visit Georgia Tech with me, and on the way home she said: You’re going to Georgia Tech. Coach Cremins will take care of you,” he says in the film.

Couple years later the Nets picked Anderson at #2 over Owens(who went #3) to join Coleman who they’d picked #1 the previous year. Imagine if all 3 had been on the same team in college? Damn.

Marbury was considered likely to go to Cuse too and picked Georgia Tech, but that one didn’t hurt as much since Cuse unexpectedly made it to the title game that season and probably couldn’t have done any better than that with Marbury.

...of Game 4 in '16?

The Warriors probably steamroll the Cavs in Game 5 and win to back-to -back titles. Then what?

Conventional wisdom seems to dictate that they extended Barnes, even though he had a lousy finals.

Do they still opt to go after Durant instead of re-signing Barnes? Durant has said he wouldn't have signed with the Warriors if they had won that year, but who knows.

Let's say KD does re-sign with OKC. They probably battle it out with the Warriors in the conference finals and possibly win. They probably lose to the Cavs in the Finals.

If KD stays, Westbrook probably doesn't re-sign an extension. He probably leaves when he can, like everyone expected him to otherwise.

...when the Niners are at the goal-line at the end of Superbowl XLVII. Like, what if he gives it Gore to try to punch it in? Or calls for a pass to Vernon Davis, who was certainly wide open during fourth down?

Harbaugh finally wins his chip and maybe doesn't keep getting restless and things don't sour between him, the GM, and ownership. Probably changes the course of Kaep's career too.

42. "What if Detroit drafted Carmelo in 2003"
In response to Reply # 0

One of the more obvious ones of the past 20 years but still, as a Melo fan, a constant thought.

Larry Brown

Billups / Chucky Atkins
Rip / Lindsey Hunter
Tayshaun / Darvin Ham
Mehmet Okur / Darko
Big Ben / Elden Campbell / Darko

What is that team missing (besides Rasheed Wallace and Mike James)? The guy that rather than playing in just 34 games and averaging 4.7mpg in those 34 games played 36mpg across all 82 games of his first NBA season, scoring 21ppg while averaging 6 rebounds and a steal as well. I've really enjoyed Melo's career personally but it hurts a bit thinking about how differently it could have gone if he'd been the sixth piece for a team that was going to win the title despite Darko's bag of dildo presence.

There's always the argument they don't think to make the Sheed trade if they draft Melo, but man...I'd have loved to see that team play.

and go to the Finals. I think we would have bodied Cleveland. But, Klay went bonkers from 3 and hit something like 4 threes in a 6 minute span of the 4th quarter. He outscored us in the 4th, while we saved all of our turnovers for the worst possible time. We go to the Finals...win or lose, does KD leave? Who knows.

2011: The Great Choke to Montreal, Alex Ovechkin doesn't have his goal waved off with a bullshit call in a game they lost in OT, before eventually losing in 7 games.

2012: Holtby failing to cover and the Rangers tying the game with 6.6 seconds left. (Or if you'd prefer: Joel Ward not taking a high sticking penalty which also led to the goal with 6.6s left)

2015: Mike Green doesn't take back to back penalties versus the Rangers up 1-0 in a Game 7 they lost in OT 2-1.

2016: Mike Weber sweeping the puck directly to an open Penguins player who ends the series with an OT goal.

2017: Ovi's shot to a wide open corner of the net doesn't hit the knob of Fleury's stick (!) in a 1-0 elimination game which they lost 2-0.

taps it up instead of out?

What if Shaq never left LA (assuming Kobe was being honest, he'd have been a Bull)?

Here's a gooooooooood one:

Here's an actual sentence that was written in a newspaper in 2000:

An NBA source confirmed last night that the Sixers placed another call yesterday to the Toronto Raptors to see if they were willing to part with swingman Tracy McGrady and a No. 1 pick for Hughes.

The Hughes in question would be Larry Hughes, pride of the St. Louis Billikens. At the time, Tracy McGrady wasn't yet the offensive savant he'd become, but the 76ers still showed a little too much chutzpah in trying to find a backcourt partner for Allen Iverson.

In the offseason, McGrady left the Raptors as a free agent and joined the Orlando Magic. The following year would see the 76ers make it to the finals on the back of Allen Iverson's Herculean MVP season. They managed to do it without Larry Hughes, who went to Golden State.
