Folks look back and discuss how great of a 3-point shooter Bird was; but Steph has had a couple seasons where he hit more 3-pointers in the season than Bird had his entire career. Bob Ryan is mad AF about that!

He has no weakness in his shooting variety.

Feet set? Pray he misses.

Gathering on either hand? Pray he misses

Off the dribble off either hand? Pray he misses.

Step-back off either hand? Pray he misses

Moving off the ball and then gathering, coming right to left or left to right or to the top-side? Pray he misses

Catching a pass throw to the left, right, above, or below his ideal shooter's pocket? Pray he misses

He can shoot it from anywhere off either hand off any variety of movement. You have guys who have been great at one or a few of those areas but never someone who has mastered the entire thing.

The best we've ever seen shooting the ball.

When we first started to notice he can light it up from anywhere on the floor at the NBA level.

I'm sure there are earlier examples, but for that that 50 point game at MSG or that crazy third quarter in the playoffs vs the Nuggets are the most memorable.

That lone Knick season when the Knicks were actually decent in the regular season before the wheel completely fell off. I vaguely remember that game; I know for certain the Knicks won and if memory serves me right, Steph had a key turnover or two in the fourth quarter. I do remember he was pretty much unguardable from three point land overall in that game.

I think this was before Klay became deadly from three point land.

back then we still had Mark Jackson running our offense. Iso possession after iso possession

Feels weird to go back and watch our offense before Kerr refined it.

I believe at the time, that Knicks team set the record for most three pointers made in the regular season. I'm certain that record is ancient history now, but that's a pretty oddball statistic.

and i just had the ranking among the greats conversation with my brother the other day, said basically the same thing. he'll be top 10 all time before 2021 at this pace, he's already EASILY pushing into top 20 all time, and is far and away the best shooter the game's ever seen.

he's literally a fucking cheat code, i cant think of a player i've ever watched that pushed the limits of whats human like him, and i've watched most of the logic-defying NBA stars in real time.

from the way the team plays, to the culture and comfort of the squad. People dismiss him because he wasn't healthy in series two finals ago.

But when he is on the floor, he changes everything. The spacing, the pace, the movement, he has bulked up and added new facets to his game, from his passing to midrange, finishing in the paint, and he has gotten a lot better on defense from the first title run. He makes basketball fun to watch. He is special.

And sports writers are suckers for "narratives."

Warriors were down 2-1, then they decide to bench Bogut and start Iggy, and win the final 3 definitively.

is that if he gets a run at the basket, regardless of the angle, or the size of the man defending him...it feels like he NEVER, EVER misses a finish at the basket. Like, not ever. Much like Kyrie in that respect, but slightly different. He's not as strong as Kyrie, but the way they own every possible inch of the backboard is mind boggling.

before his 1st MVP season. he was already recognized as a problem as an uncanny shooter and then he busted his ass all offseason and leveled up CRAZY on every possible kind of finish (except dunks) -- like he downloaded the entire Floater DLC, Layup DLC, Handles DLC, and still improved his midrange.

i was already riding for dude b/c he's fun to watch, but i was watching offseason workout videos an shit on all them crazy ass drills he was doing on reaction time, footwork, finishes, etc..

yep.

also underrated is steph's passing -- all the ways he can get the ball to any spot on the court with either hand.

and then on top of all that the dilligafness / confidence to do anything at any time. yeah. it results in silly turnovers sometimes, but you always be watching.

Teams KNOW how to prep for him, but it doesn't make a difference.

Like you could argue back and forth about whether OKC was KD or Westbrook's team, but there is no argument here. Steph stirs the drink.

the progression of his skill is what impresses me. The effect on the league and how they prepare for him impresses me in that he garners this type of respect. The fact that he has adjusted his game to KD's presence...all of it. His durability.......which was the biggest question mark for him.....he's proven to be if not an ironman, consistent.

My only question is, does his position in history get evaluated as a shooting guard or a point guard?

This will be the first season since the ill-fated '11-'12 season that he won't play at least 78 regular season games.

That's the first I remember him getting some national shine, against my favorite team though. Been keeping a (side) eye on him ever since. Was a fan of Dell when he was in Charlotte.

Steph can hit it from anywhere, anyway. Gotta respect that

(i hate this word) transcend fandom. like...whichever team you're rooting for, you'll sit back and appreciate what he's doing. you can see it in the faces of even away crowds in the background as he shoots threes. there have been few players who have had as many moments where everyone in the arena just stops rooting for who they're rooting for and enjoys the moment.

then he followed it up with a video game season and won MVP unanimously. Curry then had a great season last year but it wasn't quite video game level and folks were kinda ho-hum. This year his numbers per 36 minutes are not far off his video game season yet he probably wouldn't make a lot of folks top MVP ballots, we just take him for granted.
