"IT is about damn time!!!!"

I don’t expect Thomas to play a lot tonight, but I do expect him to get 15-20 pts easily off the bench tonight.

They should’ve saved him for the Boston game though.

While Thomas played good last night, it still wasn’t a good gauge because it’s Portland. They could’ve done the same thing tonight. Play him with the second unit and match him up with Rozier. Thomas is all about playing at a high level anyway. Tonight’s game would’ve been more suitable for him.

gauge him for what?

When your star misses that much time, you bring them along slowly. You don't throw him up against a marquee matchup (the biggest one for IT personally)

You need to gauge him to see where he is against top level competition. If he were to do well in a game like tonight then you know where he is and how much further he has to go. Like I said he played well last night, but it was against Portland. You could’ve done the same thing tonight and played him against the second unit with limited minutes. You act as if you’re going to mess up his career by playing him against Boston. It’s like a home game for him anyways.

so lets say he plays bad against boston..then you don't play him against top teams until when? it makes no sense.

You bring him along slowly..when he's 100% and ready to be unleashed, he will be with no restrictions. Till then, kid gloves. The goal is for him to be healthy and in top shape come spring, not to beat Boston in January or to gauge where he's at in his first game back.

First off players do have bad games, and if he does so what? He’s a professional and he can bounce back from a bad game. What doesn’t make sense about sitting him last night and playing him tonight? You’re still bringing him along slowly and he could’ve ran with the second against Boston and you don’t have to match him up against Kyrie at all tonight. It’s still the same thing, plus he feels comfortable playing in Boston so it wouldn’t be that tough on him. He’s a tough dude so there isn’t anything that will rattle him. They could give him 15-20 minutes against Boston and that would’ve been fine.

It's about him pressing and trying to do too much his first game back.

This game is meaningless for cle in the big picture.

So explain that if he were playing the same amount of minutes tonight would be pressing?

Boston has one of the worst benches in the league and would have a cakewalk against their second unit. IT is not a weak minded player. If he has a poor shooting performance then you better believe that he would bounce back quickly from that. Nothing at this point will rattle him which is why he could handle a game like tonight.

Y’all are acting as if the Cavs are playing the Warriors tonight. Who on that second unit can guard IT? Nobody that’s who.

Who said anything about folding under pressure? This game doesn't matter. It's about having IT healthy in spring. This game is meaningleas. No reason to have him pressing and throwing him in in a game that he wants to show and prove.

Why can't you understand that?

You bring him out for the Boston game and even if he feels like shit he is going to go hard to try and prove they made a mistake. It’s always better to slowly work a guy back into it.

You sound like you work for TNT or NBATV.

You have your choice to play him last night or tonight since it’s a back-to-back. There’s nothing wrong with sitting him last night to play him tonight.

I am sure that if he was “feeling like shit” then he wouldn’t have played at all to begin with.

You have a player who hasn't played at this intensity for 6 months and just came off a serious hip labral tear - you want to introduce him in incremental fashion and you introduce him in a closer controlled environment.

The medical decision was a very easy and simple one.

So if that is the case then why play him at all now? They could keep him out to April or May right? That’s if they’re trying to be safe.

It is not going to mess up IT nor his career if you sit him against Portland and play him against Boston in an environment where he is comfortable playing.

You could still limit his minutes tonight like you did last night. From what I understand he will be in the starting rotation next time the play so how is that protecting him.

Definitely a good game in the minutes that he played.

19m, 17 pts, 50% FG, 3 ast

He was very efficient and it looks like he will fit in just fine playing his brand of basketball.

The one thing that he will enjoy here is the amount of spacing on the floor. Especially when he is with the starting unit. There won’t be too many double and triple teams to fight through on this team.

Who hasn't had this activity level for over 6 months and just played his first game back. That would be the dumbest thing his medical staff could do, the risk/reward is completely tilted toward risk.

Lol at the utter stupidity of anyone asking why he isn't playing tonight.

Where IT comes off the injury list and plays heavy minutes immediately. IT doesn't owe anyone anything.

I'd much rather he rest and come back when he's 100% healthy. He's basically auditioning for other teams to give himself options in the offseason so rushing back hurts his future and his family.
