"Just so I'm clear: Nate McMillan gets NO credit for the Pacers, right? "

I just wanted to be sure we were consistent with standard
OKS commentary with black coaches.

I mean, I know better than to even TRY to say that Dwayne Casey
is an elite coach, having kept that team highly relevant
every year, developing talent, the whole 9.

So regarding McMillan: They are a ton of fun to watch, are
improving every night....someone else gets credit though,
right?

Nah, nobody was talking about hires.

You started talking about hires.

I talked about another hire.

You said you weren't talking about that hire.

I said I was never talking about hires.

Then I said you were a lost puppy, and you got sad.

Fact is, this is just another salvo in your blanket race wars coaching agenda. Which is usually fine, I generally agree with you that the stigma exists and I dig the premise of the original post.

Problem is, you want to apply it to every situation under the sun, regardless if it's actually relevant. You said Luke's name in post #4, I called out your insinuation and you got caught.

You tried to spin it to Mike Brown, you tried to fake ignorance, now you're trying to spin it on some semantic "hires" lameness. Thing is, if you actually took a second and thought about context, your agenda would be much stronger.

Okay. So what does this have to do with your bringing up
"hires" when not relevant?

trying to drag down kerr you propped him up. people said the fucking OBVIOUS that he was a sought-after, first-time head coach and the lakers made a move while they had no contractual obligation to their current coach to bring him in and turn the page. find me anyone here said he was "a genius."

quickly we are back into this "ZOMG MIKE BROWN" thing. he has walton's old job and is prospering in it. walton had his old job and is doing OK. a lot of it, as you say (and often overstate) has to do with the situation and players. seems like you wanna overlook a lot of obvious stuff to cut to the loud-and-wrong chase.

Saying Mike Brown is relatively one-dimensional and that Scott has clashed his way out of the running for good jobs is not racist. Brown is pretty specialized and he is great at what he does, hence his prosperity in some roles and iffy results in others. Scott has had issues with black stars and with organizations that have disproportionately hired black coaches (particularly New Orleans) but you wanna make it like he's coaching football in Alabama or something. Please.

Not unike Feel with Tex Winters and them. Feel is not the sharpest

It's what make a great coach: Gotta know your shortcomings. Kerr is
THE MOST MAGNETIC glue coach. Amazing personality. Intellectually?
Mediocre, at best.

He lost with Walton, because Walton is a great, great guy,
but not-so-bright.

He won with Alvin Gentry and Mike Brown. Two highly
intelligent technicians.

And he'll win this year, again, with Mike Brown.

But Stevens was the favorite before the year started, and that he lost Heyward and still has one of the league's very best records makes it hard to deny him this year.

But Casey and McMillan have done two of the best three or four coaching jobs in the NBA this year. Glad you're giving them their just due, and the L in general isn't exactly blind to it (have heard McMillan's name in almost every COTY discussion I've heard on podcasts, and Casey himself is on the Lowe Post this week, generally a sign that you're a coach the league respects for the work you're doing).

So he doesn't need anymore praise. Even if your analysis
is off a good bit.

>But Stevens was the favorite before the year started, and
>that he lost Heyward and still has one of the league's very
>best records makes it hard to deny him this year.

Well, to suggest he "lost" Heyward is disingenuous--we actually
don't know how good that team was with him, and some
nerds say that the team might actually as good or better
without him:

Heyward was fine player, but waaaay less valuable than Gobert
on Utah, and if Heyward is healthy than Tatum, Smart and Jalen
Brown don't get as many minutes. Tatum and Brown are just below
All-Stars *this* season and surefire next (as in, both will
be better all around players than Heyward by next season...by
a good bit)

So I'm not talking about Stevens.

I'm just checking in to make sure we deny black coaches
any credit, like we usually do.

I haven't been around here much, and so wanted to make
sure that things hadn't changed TOO much, ya dig?

no. hayward is an elite shot creator, and the Celtics dont have anyone who can do that other than Irving. not to mention, the second unit would be turbocharged with either Brown or Tatum.

>Heyward was waaaay less valuable than Gobert

probably why the Jazz this year are .500 without him and 7-11 with him! without hayward that team went nowhere, and is headed back that way without him.

>Tatum and Brown are just

14/6 is cusp of all star? theyre good young players, but they are benefitting from playing secondary roles alongside elite veteran winners.

>(as in, both will

well for that to be true, both would have to take a MASSIVE leap in their ability to create for others. because as of right now they arent even at 3 combined assists, while over half their 2pt buckets are assisted. hayward meanwhile has had less than half of his 2pt buckets assisted in each of the last 4 years and is an elite PnR ballhandler.

>So I'm not talking about Stevens.

no youre just being super dishonest.

Casey is good but he isnt doing what Lue, Stevens, and Pop are doing with All NBA players on the shelf. Thats your top 3 in order.

Bwahaha Celts built on DEFENSE, idiot. This current team is
MURDER on defense and is unquestionably worse on that end
with Heyward. And their offense been FINE because of the
development of Tatum, who is one of the best shooters in
the league. That doesn't happen with Heyward.

You imbecile. He just got hurt.

Donovan Mitchell is starting to play lights out now,
just like a developing rookie should.

LMAO

Good grief.

Well, for one, you're an idiot, and secondly: Basa just made
a great Kyle Korver comparison with Tatum: Korver went with
similar numbers, playing zero defense. Tatum is an excellent
defender.

with him. The Jazz are obviously much better with them,
because they didn't gain Kyrie Irving and Jason Tatum,

If he had the Knicks playing at this level he'd be a top-five candidate or better on anyone's list. I know a guy who covers the Pacers and some national writers who have said they love the job he is doing.

Personally I thought the Pacers were the big underachiever of last season but a lot of it had to do with injuries. On paper they should have been the fourth-best team in the East IMO but they had a really shitty start and never seemed to be 100%. Obviously getting PG signaled a rebuild but it wasn't a tear-down. Nice to see them winning and I think they will finish the year firmly above .500, which is exceeding expectations.

McMillan was a guy I knew would be a coach. Loved his Seattle teams, he and Jim O'Brien embraced the perimeter game like few others at that time. The Portland thing seemed like a great gig but of course it all fell apart, not really his fault.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I was just making sure that black coaches in shitty

To be transparent, i think Nate Dogg deserves only third credit for the Pacers success this season. Oladippo took his game up three levels, and he did so because Russ taught him what it takes.

That said, Nate did what he always does: adjust how his team plays to fit the talent. He doesn’t get NEAR enough credit for this. Oladippo is thriving because he’s the focal point of the offense, to Nate’s credit. I have him in the top 3 for COTY with Casey and Stephens.

The actual player Oladipo spoke on Russy.

The actual coach Kerr and actual player Steph had spoken on
how Jackson taught that team it's central character. Jackson
can't even get another job. Name never comes up, and when it
does, we get talk about how "he's not cerebral enough" (especally
offensive when he's one of the best playmakers ever)

So we should either be consistent, or not speak. I'm not asking

Curry, Draymond AND STEVE KERR have OPENLY extolled Jackson,
talked about what he built.

The saddest part is that the main beef between Jackson and
the owner was Jackson's preference for DRAYMOND GREEN over
HARRISON BARNES.

Who won that debate?

Not to mention Jackson drafting Klay. Jackson trying to
rebuild the Pacers ended being the exact RIGHT move for
that team. Draymond as the the Davis'. Iggy as McKey.
Klay as Reggie. There's only one Steph in the universe,
but Steph became a true playmaker because of Mark Jackson.
