In response to Reply # 0

Why do these schools think they should be better?

I’m not sure what’s worse....the psychos at Florida who think they should win the national championship every year and run their coach out when they don’t, or the mediocre schools like Arkansas and Arizona St. that apparently think they should be winning the league or something?

including USC, who spent the 2010's as an afterthought before "breaking through" with a Pac12 runner up finish and a win over the 3rd best team in the B1G east

if they did it before in the Pac10 round robin they can surely do it again in the conf champ game era

basically the same reason Arkansas WONT. even mediocrity like TAMU and LSU still casts a shadow because they are TAMU and LSU

Spurrier and Meyer could've coached their as long as they wanted (and Spurrier only had one title to his credit).

and yes, there's no reason Florida shouldn't be *competing* for a playoff spot consistently.

his main competition in the East, Butch and Richt, got fired along the way.

4-9 against ranked teams

18 ppg against ranked teams
28 ppg allowed against ranked teams

0-3 against FSU (all three blowouts)

was the OC at bama, but offense at Florida went from bad to worse
2015: 100th ranked
2016: 107th ranked
2017: 109th ranked

then about a dozen players got suspended or kicked out to start the season. and then the fake death threats (or not, he won't say). can't get away with the extra stuff if you're not winning.

they owe him 12 million dollars for the buyout and it doesn't get reduced if he gets another job somewhere.

i always thought Graham was an utter cheeseball. wears tennis player wrist bands while coaching, his promo commercials here are a travesty to pre game speeches everywhere. he recruited the state well tho, N'Keal Harry was one of the best recruits in the entire country and he convinced him to stay.

Beleima had to go tho, he was a horrible coach without the capability to adjust a wrist watch. the amount of 10+ point lead games he lost was pretty staggering. and I just really cant even stand looking at him honestly.

but to your question, both coaches were hired to turn teams around and make them better and neither did that. shouldnt surprise they got fired, the dumbass contracts they were offered should be the only surprise.

but Schiano is an absolute give-up. he's Butch Jones 2.0 -- program builder, but will fail you against the elites and might embarrass you along the way.

he should be in the ACC/Big East/Big 11. he's not a SEC guy at all. and the musk of him at Penn State during the Sandusky years makes it all the more regrettable.

doesn't help that Schiano checks off a lot of the same boxes as Butch. guarded/asshole who feigns accountability to the public, grinds down his players, talent accumulator and program builder, makes a lot of dumb mistakes on gameday.

myself, I really liked the Matt Campbell idea but I guess his buyout is too much.

>isn't this the same fan base that was thrilled with the butch
>jones hire?

fanbase took the Butch Jones hire in stride, even after the Dooley mess and getting turned down by Strong/Fedora/Gundy. hell, they gave Dooley a chance after getting burned by Kiffin.

there was really nothing wrong with Butch being hired, he did a lot of good for the program as far as getting the talent level back to SEC level. he just couldn't take the next step, and got lost in his own finger-pointing. shit, Alvin Kamara is destroying the NFL and the Vols couldn't win the SEC East last year with a two-game cushion -- it was just time to move on when the whole thing collapsed this season.

and yes, Gruden-mania is a alive and obnoxious, but this whole "Tennessee should be happy to have Greg Schiano" bit...give me a fucking break. somebody else can hire him.

>especially since from what i understand any accusation of a
>connection between schiano and sandusky is pretty flimsy and
>unverifiable.

yeah, nobody is throwing Schiano in jail or anything. and perhaps the collateral damage for anybody on the Paterno staff during those years is having to deal with this forever, whether involved or not...but too bad. being passed over for a SEC head coaching job is hardly some kind of outrageous consequence.

>when sarah huckabee sanders is riding for your cause...and god
>knows whatever yokels from that state...well that's a pretty
>big farce.

yes, Clay Travis is another dumbass but don't go down this road. who's defending Schiano? weirdo national media yucks who made Schiano some kind of Christ-figure overnight, and Ohio State-connected people who are going on tweet binges while supporting a known Sandusky apologist (not Schiano, but John Ziegler). it's a shame; I always like Herbie and he usually has a nice word for Tennessee because he lives there, but he came unhinged today and it was sad to watch.

it's not even so much the fans that made this happen, as actual big-time boosters and state politicians that rightfully didn't need any *hint* of past misconduct to start the next era of Tennessee football.

absolutely there is a large contingent that are harping on the Penn State past because they just don't want Schiano. but hey, it *is* part of his past, and it *does* come up when you put him on the face of a P5 program. again, nobody is kicking him out of coaching, but that kind of stuff is a lot different when you're an assistant versus the main guy at the podium every day.

>ok so you had matt campbell on your list...anyone else?

Norvell might be interesting. I'd rather Tennessee take another chance on an up-and-comer than retread veteran, although Currie seems to favor the latter approach.

I think you're trying to paint me in this corner as a guy who believes Tennessee should and can get anybody, but you got the wrong one. I don't like Schiano for the reasons aligned above: he's a dickhead (releasing private info on Josh Freeman nearly got him sued by the NFLPA), he has a lot of the same faults as Butch, and he has no natural ties to the southeast. the Sandusky cloud is the rotten cherry on top.

agreed, if that were the true underlying issue. but it isn't. the faux self-righteousness from a largely deplorable segment of the population is really wack to me.

LOL I didn't tell the mouthpiece of the trump administration to sound off about it. this is a professional liar who goes to work everyday defending sexual predators sitting in the highest levels of office...but is gonna draw the line at greg schiano?!?!?!?!? seriously get the fuck outta here with that.

I'm not aware of OSU people and john ziegler stuff?

I'm sure you can understand that the implication here is that OSU did something horribly immoral by employing schiano and there's going to be a level of response to that.

>again, nobody is kicking him
>out of coaching, but that kind of stuff is a lot different
>when you're an assistant versus the main guy at the podium

I disagree with this. if schiano had ANY involvement in the sandusky stuff he SHOULD be out of cfb completely. I'm not sure why the moral high ground only exists at HC and not DC. if we're gonna do the morality thing then let's get serious and go all the way with it. schiano shouldn't even be employed as a locker room janitor without an angry mob protesting whatever school is employing him. but weird how nobody has said shit about it for the past 2 years as OSU DC. oh, it only bothers tennessee fans and sarah sanders when the child molestation enabler is employed in the holy state of tennessee? please.

>I think you're trying to paint me in this corner as a guy who
>believes Tennessee should and can get anybody, but you got the
>wrong one

not at all. i know you to be a reasonable person. but i do think there needs to be a realistic list of candidates and sometimes that list can dwindle really quickly when better jobs are snatched up and you're left with what you're left with. that's what sucks about having to get rid of a guy immediately without having a predecessor lined up. if you don't want schiano for football reasons then that's fine...but this isn't a good look for the school and I'm highly doubtful you're going to get someone much better at this point for a variety of reasons. it's a clusterfuck of the highest order and I don’t know what big name is going to want to coach there now. But hey, maybe gruden will have a change of heart...

*shrug*. Paterno era is toxic. Tennessee administration gave the fanbase a chance to get faux self-righteous by putting Schiano in their face. it gave them an out to criticize the hire for non-football reasons.

yeah, Sarah Sanders is a hypocrite...who cares. if we're just calling out supporters/haters I can find as many ugly cases on both sides. see below.

>I'm not aware of OSU people and john ziegler stuff?

Herbstreit is retweeting John Ziegler stories as we type. Ziegler, a guy who actually asserts that Sandusky never committed any sexual crimes. all for Greg-fucking-Schiano. like I said, you can find embarrassing national figures on both sides. doesn't change much about the story.

of course. that's why Ohio State fans are riding so hard for him. I'm not condemning Urban Meyer for that though -- as mentioned, the case against Schiano is mostly hearsay. but it's like being an offensive assistant under Art Briles who was never implicated. I'd rather just not have to deal with that at all. and sure it's a bigger deal now, because Schiano was about to become a P5 head coach again. does anybody remember a national soundbite from Schiano as OSU's DC? no. same as if Briles started coaching at Idaho.

lol, you are really on this Sarah Sanders thing.

>this isn't a good look for the school and I'm highly doubtful

the whole finger-pointing at Tennessee fans is laughable. oh, the revolting fanbase is the issue? the fanbase that have filled a 100k stadium for the past decade, despite being a marginal, damn near irrelevant program on the field? fans shouldn't decide the head coach, but an administration that fucked up three straight HC hires shouldn't be challenged whatsoever?

if you're a coach and scared by Tennessee's reaction to Schiano, you probably weren't going to make it in the SEC anyway. Butch is a good example -- he lost the fanbase when they started questioning him ("fake news!" / "champions of life"). sorry to the nation these fans don't want the head booster's and his stooge AD's fishing buddy. I think we've suffered enough to bitch about it.

if its was an assistant coach under Briles from over 20 years ago? who didn't even work alongside the person making the accusation? ok then yeah, same thing.

>the whole finger-pointing at Tennessee fans is laughable. oh,
>the revolting fanbase is the issue?

yes, some radio talk show loon who hyped up the twitter lynch mob fanbase is a talking point here.

how is peyton manning currently treated on that campus? did anyone protest butch jones' after he ran that kid off the football team and called a traitor for intervening during a rape?

if nick saban were ready to sign with UT and had been on joe paterno's staff 25 years ago would there still be protests in the streets? I'm gonna guess no.

the bottom line here is this is about football and not morality. and its a very extreme reaction so it's getting a lot of play.

>the fanbase that have

im not sure what selling out stadiums has to do with any of this...

fans can certainly voice their opinions but when it's rooted in delusion and fantasy then others have the right to clown. and prospective coaching candidates have the right to not want to coach there.

>if you're a coach and scared by Tennessee's reaction to

I'm not seeing a connection between signing up to coach a train wreck program and winning football games in the SEC.

who. cares. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton might chime in next...who gives a fuck? it was a national news story for a slow Sunday and there were multitudes of dumb opinions from all arenas.

>if its was an assistant coach under Briles from over 20 years
>ago? who didn't even work alongside the person making the

fortunately there is not an exact comparison to what happened at Penn State. I think you get the analogous point about collateral damage when one person in power taints the view of an entire coaching staff.

>yes, some radio talk show loon who hyped up the twitter lynch
>mob fanbase is a talking point here.

the only people that look truly bad in all this is the Tennessee administration and decision-makers. you know, the *real* reason Tennessee is looking for a HC again and Schiano got to be on the coaching hot stove for the first time in a half-decade.

>how is peyton manning currently treated on that campus? did

in all seriousness, of course it's extreme, of course it's about football, and yes, it's also about Schiano's resume having an old smudge mark that is easy to blow up. I admitted as much earlier. doesn't really change anything that's happened.

>im not sure what selling out stadiums has to do with any of
>this...

Tennessee is going through a historically bad stretch of football, like the worst stretch in decades upon decades, and yet they still support the program and will get behind a winner. up above you poke fun at Vols fans for thinking Butch Jones was a good hire, now you say they are never happy? which is it...

funny that other college football fans are painting the Tennessee fanbase as loony, never happy, antagonistic, poisonous. uh, now who just got on the faux moral high ground? Vols fans are the same as any other major fanbase in the P5.

>fans can certainly voice their opinions but when it's rooted
>in delusion and fantasy then others have the right to clown.
>and prospective coaching candidates have the right to not want
>to coach there.

and? oh no, Dan Mullen said no, now what's going to happen -- Tennessee might go winless in conference play or something? lol, Christ. yes, thanks for the warning everybody.

>I'm not seeing a connection between signing up to coach a
>train wreck program and winning football games in the SEC.

and the reason the program is a train-wreck? because of Clay-fucking-Travis and Vol Twitter? give me a fucking break. it's because of three dipshit athletic directors in a row, and the head of the booster table who is half-occupied running a NFL franchise further into the ground.

the Tennessee administration is all to blame here. period.

i get the point of collateral damage but the flimsiness of the accusation is quite important here.

>the only people that look truly bad in all this is the
>Tennessee administration and decision-makers

i would say the idiots who marched on and vandalized campus with shit like 'schiano supports child rape' look really really bad. that's some really awful shit that's somehow getting thrown by the wayside. from a national perspective nobody came away 'impressed' by the actions of Vol fans. and of course nobody came away impressed with the administration caving to public pressure.

>up above you poke fun at Vols fans for thinking Butch
>Jones was a good hire, now you say they are never happy? which
>is it...

I don't recall saying that vol fans are never happy...just that theyre not living in reality.

and that their response when reality reared its ugly head was deranged.

>Vols fans are the same as any other major fanbase in the P5.

From my observations they're a lot worse, actually.

UT isn't the only big time program that has strung together some shitty hires over the past few cycles...mich, usc, nebraska are just a few schools that have hired consecutive clown show coaches. yet somehow those fan bases kept their wits about them.

weird side note but when mich was getting clowned in the media for bungling the les miles hire...i remember them reaching out to plan B's and C's which included schiano who turned them down. so they went out and got brady hoke instead, lol. small world.

>and the reason the program is a train-wreck? because of

>it's because of three dipshit athletic directors in a row, and

of course the program's demise has been multifactorial.

i think we agree on most of this stuff. but i think i have a much bigger problem than everyone else here with haphazardly suggesting that someone supports child rape, tarnishing their reputation and job prospects, etc. i don't see that as an appropriate reaction to the situation. you don't have to like schiano or think he's a good football coach but to take it down that road is really fucked up.

i'll also throw out there that if people want to make wild guesses about who was involved with what...there's a far greater likelihood that larry johnson sr. knew what was going on at psu since he was a lifer.

His “reconstruction” at Rutgers consisted of scheduling a bunch of automatic wins(even for Rutgers) non league and going 28-48 in the Big East.

Even if you ignore his first 4 years as he took over a horrid program, he still only went 25-24 after that in a post-Miami and VT Big East. He never really beat anybody good.

It really wasn’t that impressive IMO.

Jim Sr - former football captain under Neyland, founded Pilot Oil
Jim Jr - son of Sr, taking over family business, bought the Browns
Bill - son of Sr, governor of Tennessee

Most powerful boosters of UTK.
Jr. is the one throwing his weight around. He's ruined the Browns, tarnished Pilot's reputation with a lawsuit (google it) and is fucking up UT football. Quite a resume. He put the current AD in place with pushback from other prominent boosters.

seemingly no pending sanctions coming down the pike, but Lord knows there has to be plenty of live wires that could go off at any time. Would it surprise you to learn of a large-scale administrative cover up ala Carolina-on-steroids? Or if the Florida attorney general cracked down on Tallahassee police for being on the take from the program (rumored in a NYT piece a few years ago)?

I bet Jimbo knows the ax could come down at any minute and it's better to get while the gettins good - especially if you can get even MORE stupid big money.

That being said, there's ONE expectation in that division and that's beat Alabama. You'd better stick that landing sooner than later if you ride in on the savior horse like Jimbo will.

I'm interested to see how Frost does but have little hopes of turning it completely around. If we can just get back to the 8-9 wins jackass Pelini gave us its a small win for us tho.

Nebraska still sells out the stadium and is the only attraction in the state so I won't say its a bad job and for a guy from here as well I can't see him refusing it, especially the rumored 35 mil/7 year contract. We should be able to at least beat the weaker competition and be competitive with Wisconsin, Michigan State, etc.

as I said above, Tennessee needs to be trying to find the *next* big thing before he proves himself and can angle for a more coveted job. not Matt Campbell at Iowa State, but Matt Campbell at Toledo.

the problem with going after "proven" coaches is if they're currently successful, they're probably in a good place and can be extremely selective.

they aren't asking themselves the most obvious questions, they're just winging it. Questions like:

- would this be a come up for this prospective coach?

If the answer is NO then the coach is probably going to say NO

no real plan to it. Gundy does very well for himself at his alma mater and is measured against Patterson, Riley and Herman. he's not good enough to land a blue-chip program, but comfy enough so he doesn't have to settle. plus uh, he already said no five years ago.

Tennessee administration is trying to save face with a slam dunk PR hire, instead of really searching for the next big thing.

it'll be humiliating for them when Kiffin says no. and honestly, minus that whole fiasco with him burning the orange and white bridge behind him seven years ago, he checks off a lot of boxes.

another defensive coach who would be a little too much like his predecessor. I'd rather have Chad Morris (definitely not Kevin Steele).

going to UT as a first-time HC would be tough on Tee and probably need more patience than SEC programs have, but he would be a hell of a recruiter and get things going on the offensive side.

forgot he was the QB there back in the day. just looked him up again -- in 2000, he only completed 50 percent of his passes despite throwing to Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzadeh, with a running back (Ken Simonton) who set the conference record for rushing touchdowns. damn.

THAT'S your breaking point? This dude has officially had a shittier 2017 than Mike Flynn. How do you get fired from an SEC athletic director job in 8 months?

They're going to give the job to an actual possum, aren't they?

I think he could be great at Tennessee, but at this point it's too toxic to even consider.

VERY different circumstances, but this kinda reminds me of Penn State's coaching search after Paterno was ousted. In that it's an otherwise great opportunity for a coach that has become a job nobody wants to touch with a 10 foot pole because of outside factors. Though I don't even think that search was this publicly messy.

Dave Clawson at Wake Forest was an old Fulmer guy back in the day. He wouldn't be the MOST pathetic hire they could make, so maybe him? Otherwise, I'm not sure who this is supposed to attract. I don't think THAT many old Fulmer assistants are head coaches now. Unless he's just going to install himself.

Could've jumped back home to LSU last year (or possibly the year before) and didn't. One 6 loss season at FSU and he got antsy. I honestly didn't see this coming.

First coach to voluntarily leave a program he won a national championship at since 1976. Also the first time in 40 years that the FSU job is actually open (remember, Jimbo was brought in as Bowden's OC/eventual replacement.)

HUGE win for the Ags, though.

A&M just ran out the coach with the second highest winning percentage in school history after spending the year shitting all over him. And I think both parties (Ags and Sumlin) are better off with a change. But if he doesn't have an SEC West title under his belt by year 3? Those wannabe soldiers are going to come for his head.

>“Football schools” with 100,000 morons in the stands who
>all think they can coach and who run the coach out of town if
>they don’t win the national title within a few years.

but they actually have been an extremely patient group. VANDERBILT has a better conference record than Tennessee over the last eight years.

Tennessee is 62-63 over the last decade. you could say they were being the typecast over-reactionary fans when Fulmer was fired, but every HC since then has deserved to be fired.

Butch Jones had a half-decade at Tennessee and this is what happened in his final year:

- first Tennessee team in 113 years to lose eight games
- first Tennessee team in 113 years to go winless (0-8) in conference
- worst Tennessee loss at home ever (41-0)
- first Tennessee team to lose to Kentucky and Vanderbilt in the same season since 1964

and all this was in year five! that shit would get you fired in the American Athletic Conference.

the "national title or bust" attitude is certainly prevalent in the SEC more so than any other conference, and there is a healthy group of radicalism in every southeastern fan-base, but UT can't find a coach because their decision-makers are complete buffoons.

also, these head coaches thrive off their own egos and damn sure know what they're getting into...and are compensated fairly for it. Jimbo Fisher will be on the hot seat every year he doesn't beat bama, but he's also getting paid $7.5 MILLION PER SEASON. THAT'S BILL BELICHICK MONEY, LITERALLY.

The situation has turned into a mess, and it’s getting a lot of publicity. I’m talking about most of these SEC schools and other “football schools” in general.

Yes, they can pay much more and obviously that’s powerful. I often hear about “facilities”....does that really matter if basically the whole league you’re competing against has them? Like, I go to Arkansas for more money and better facilities and closer to better recruiting grounds than what I had at my last school...and have to compete against Bama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, etc? So how are those facilities and recruiting grounds really helping me?

If I’m a great and successful coach at another P5 school or even a non-P5 school in a real city like Memphis or Temple or something...I think I’m looking to just win games and become a legend there for the next 20 years and not deal with these backwoods towns and their crazy fanbases that run the show that’ll probably have me fired in a couple years.

Go to some of these schools and go 8-4 a few times and you’re gone and looked at as a flop. Go 8-4 every year at other schools and you’re there for life.

If I was a coach who had my program consistently winning and had to deal with relatively little bullshit, and it was a cool place to live, I think I’d stick there.

And a Nebraska native, so that makes it different if he considers it home and has an extra passion for it. If it wasn’t for that though?

Nebraska fired Pelini and he went 9-4 or 10-4 every single season. They think it’s still the 1990’s too, and think their program matters more than it actually does.

perfect timing for everyone. sort of a Meyer-Ohio State and Harbaugh-Michigan situation -- *NOT* comparing Frost to them as coaches -- where the right candidate and right job all coalesced.

146. "UCF hires Josh Heupel to replace Scott Frost"
In response to Reply # 0

Bittersweet feelings. I wish Heupel would still be around Mizzou but he's been the best thing about these Mizzou teams the last two years. I didn't realize he was so young (39). But props to him for helping get Mizzou back to a degree.

My only real question is about Drew Lock's draft status. But with a new OC, it's possible that his numbers could drop in the new system.

He ought to stay one more season. not being selected over Rosen and Darnold and also likely Mayfield. It seems the QB class next year is a little thinner and Drew would rank higher then.

Also Randy Shannon is moving along as Heupel's DC. At first I thought Shannon should have waited until a higher profile school inquired about him. But the AC conference schools, especially the Florida schools are gaining a good reputation, at the very least as a way to get back on the radar of the bigger brands.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21677185/ucf-knights-hire-josh-heupel-new-coach-randy-shannon-defensive-coordinator

Adam Rittenberg
ESPN Staff Writer
The UCF Knights on Tuesday hired Missouri offensive coordinator Josh Heupel as the new head coach, replacing Scott Frost.

Heupel is finishing his second season at Missouri, which has put up big offensive numbers.

"I'm extremely excited about the opportunity to represent UCF," said Heupel, who flew to Orlando on Monday night to meet with athletic director Danny White and Randy Shannon, who will be the Knights' new defensive coordinator.

He served as quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator at Oklahoma from 2006 to 2014 before being let go at his alma mater, where he played quarterback on the Sooners' national championship team in 2000 and was the Heisman Trophy runner-up.

The 39-year-old Heupel, who will be introduced as the coach later Tuesday, spent the 2015 season at Utah State before joining Missouri's staff.

"I believe we've identified one of the brightest offensive minds in college football," White said in a prepared statement. "His offensive system is very similar to what we've been running. I know he's going to utilize all the great talent on our roster and continue to add to it. He's no stranger to success, winning a national championship as a quarterback and leading a number of extremely high-powered offensive teams."

Missouri improved from 124th nationally in offense the year before Heupel arrived to 13th last year and seventh this season, averaging 511.5 yards and 39.3 points per game.

UCF also announced that Heupel is hiring Shannon as his defensive coordinator, which is the same job he had with Florida this past season.

Shannon served as the Gators' interim head coach after Jim McElwain was fired. He also served as Miami's head coach from 2007 to 2010 after serving as the school's defensive coordinator.

"Randy is someone who I have always had a great deal of respect for throughout the years," Heupel said. "Seeing what he's been able to do with defenses, in addition to his ability to recruit this state, it's extremely special and will be invaluable to our staff."

The Knights are 12-0 and won the American Athletic Conference title Saturday. The Knights will play Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta on Jan. 1.

UCF had targeted former Texas A&M and Houston coach Kevin Sumlin for its job, but talks didn't progress on Sunday and the school turned its attention elsewhere.

Knights offensive coordinator Troy Walters, named acting head coach after Frost's departure Saturday to Nebraska, interviewed for the job. It's unclear whether Frost or Walters will coach UCF in the bowl game.

Taggart is a monster recruiter, but I'm less convinced of his actual coaching acumen.

This will be way worse for us if Leavitt bails. He's the single best coach on the staff far and away.

Anyway, Browning is still trash.

has an interesting connection to Malzahn, when he coached HS in Texas he contacted Gus at Arky and asked for offense protips. then he got hired at Tulsa after Gus left. then built Clemsons offense into what they still are, while convincing Deshaun to sign there.

so between his aTm connection and being in Gus's shadow for a little bit he decided to perch himself in the toughest coaching division in CFB.

hopefully the 100+ ranked defense the last millennia will be addressed

I love it.

- excelled in every position he's been in. learned Saban's defense from the inside-out, then took it to Florida State and won a national title. been defensive coordinator at three very grueling jobs and made all of those programs better.

- he's going to put together a MONSTER staff. Tennessee is giving him the bank vault keys and he has connections all over the southeast. recruiting is vital in Knoxville with the weak in-state base -- the Vols' 2018 class will be better, and the 2019 group a beast.

- unfortunately Alabama born and bred, but so is Dabo. main point is he's a "SEC guy" and knows the culture. he won't be scared of it. he won't hide behind a "life championship motto". he's no pushover, but also not a sideline sideshow like Muschamp and Smart. those theatrics play fine as DC but looks sophomoric as HC.

- going by his credentials, he's checked every box except for being the head guy. that's *exactly* who Tennessee needed to find. if he was already a proven HC he'd be working at Florida or Georgia already. Tennessee always needs to find the next big thing before their rivals.

Fulmer's Game of Thrones takeover restores order.

In response to Reply # 0

he kind of got a raw deal at FIU -- he took over a winless, fledgling program, won 7 and 8 games in 2010-2011 then got fired for 3-9 in 2012. FIU didn't have another winning season until this year.

rebuilt himself as the OL coach at Alabama and got the Ed Orgeron player vote to be promoted from OC to HC at Oregon.

I think the fact he's known as a national recruiter with coaching and playing ties to Florida especially (lineman for the Canes) is what got him the second chance.

Huge W for Arizona, only helped by the fact that their in-state rivals did the exact opposite.

I think the defense will continue to be its normal self. but now that there's a qb decision in addition to finding an OC, things are gonna get real interesting.

just like Belichick losing however many coordinators over the year hasn't changed much.

Tua will start next year with Hurts being sprinkled in as a package player. Mike Locksley is already there, has tons of experience and would be an easy transition. same for Tosh Lupoi, who is Saban's next Pruitt/Smart/Muschamp.
