"OKPro Wrassling: Survivor Series"
Wed Nov-15-17 11:19 AM by pretentious username

They turned this from "Should miss" to "Can't miss" in 2 weeks time. Rumor is they'll be getting rid of the 2 PPVs a month format and I think I'll actually miss it. Makes my job as "Guy who runs a contest for a fake sport" a lot easier, but it will make the weekly shows more meaningful I suppose. Anywho, here's the predictions:

https://tinyurl.com/ydf6349l

Please note that due to yesterday's title change there is an open spot on the Smackdown Women's team, which could affect your bonus answers. Could be Natalya, could be Lana, could be Paige or lord knows who else. If they announce it before the preshow I will update that match.

EDIT: For Bonus #4 and #6 I'll allow up to two picks and if either of your picks have not been eliminated I will count it.

1. "re: 2 PPVs a month rumor"
In response to Reply # 0

Is this stemming from the report that from now through Mania there will only be 1 per month? I think this is the same as last year but I could be wrong.

So it's possible after Mania we get right back to the usual 2 per month, but like everyone I'm hoping they go back to 1 per month, alternating Raw and SD, with the exception of Rumble/Mania/SummerSlam/Survivor Series and maybe even Money in the Bank being cross-promotional.

This also allows them to have "special edition" episodes of Raw and SmackDown during the longer gaps between PPVs, more title matches on TV that feel like they could legitimately end in a title change.

What I hope 1PPV per month mostly brings though is not having to deal with rematch clauses and all that other bullshit resulting in the same match happening at 2-3 consecutive PPVs.

i think they should bin every PPV between RR and Mania and really develop the Road to Wrestlemania thing beyond just pointing at the damn sign.

Like how they did the 2-hour Roadblock special last year. I liked when they did shows like that or the half WWE/half NXT Japan show. Not sure what kind of numbers they did but there's something fun, light, and unique about those.

and yeah, the sign-pointing thing is SO old.

In response to Reply # 4

2 hour events, 5, 6 matches MAX. Half the reason why Takeovers are always so good is because they are few and far between, are really short and only feature a handful of matches, none of which are thrown together.

Miss me with 4-hour PPVs that aren't Mania, and even that, in my opinion, is too long.

They should start promoting network specials build around 1 special attraction match (a Brock match, Roman against some other main eventer he's never faced) and fill an undercard with a variety of CW, UK, NXT, etc matches.

Don't even bother with any fancy names, do it like boxing or UFC, just name the main event and the # of the event it is, something like WWE Network 9: Brock v. Strowman II.

that ship has sailed, and they will STILL say "Special start time of 7 PM" even though it's the same every year. They've had surprisingly good Survivor Series events in the last few years but Summerslam has missed the mark ever since they moved it to 4 hours.

yup! their branding of these events has failed and they don't even know it. Payback? Backlash? No Mercy? Balls???... they're all just words. Give me the show's major attraction (or even something like "Beast in the East" if you want to be clever) and call it a day. If I'm referencing a show in conversation later "No Mercy 2015" means nothing to people, even the biggest fans.

edit: i do like some of the traditional PPV names like RR, Mania and Survivor Series. Those should always stay.

The big 4 and MITB can stay. Everything else should probably be simplified to the UFC or Takeover name format

Still possible to link up, but me and my friend are going with our wives for the weekend.

Mania is the main part of the weekend to me but there will probably be lots of non wrestling stuff too.

My goal is NXT and Mania. I've done the other things like Axxess and the knockoff Axxess across the street, they're ok but never worth the money (Plus we spent way too much for good tickets this year).

Rest of the weekend will just be atmosphere soaking in. Bourban st is wild when it's full of wrestling fans, but I have the feeling we're also gonna be ending up at the aquariam or on some haunted ghost tour at some point.

I got some pretty solid seats for Mania yesterday.

I missed the last one in New Orleans. I of course regret missing Bryan's big night. I went to 25 in Houston (HBK TAKER 1!) and 32 in Dallas.

If they do a New Japan show too, it's gonna be a ridiculous weekend. I think I want to do NXT, NJPW, and Mania if possible. For 32, I did an indie show Saturday, Mania Sunday, and Raw+Ross Monday. Good times.

God I saw in that stadium for what felt like 9 hours for such a mediocre mania.

So far I've done 18 which was amazing because I was 20, could drink legally in Canada and Rock vs Hogan.

30 amazing for Bryan and 32 which made me never want to go again.

I went to Wrestlemania in HS. I hadnt even watched wrestling at that point for like 7 years. But my friend won tickets on the radio. Dont remember which number it was but it was the Iron Man Match between HBK and Brett Hart. The only good thing about that match was Warriors come back. I was actually falling asleep during the main event.

Every shot of them in the "siege" segments is them acting exactly like Carmela. Becky Lynch is by far the worst thing on either show now.....until they pan back to Carmela, who has somehow become worse.

The Smack Down opener might be the corniest segment in twenty years, if not ever.

We got two "cool" moments out of this whole mess, so there's that. Cool.

I am interested in the show itself though, but not because of a well executed build up. They just created good matchups.

Of course, as always, we're getting super served a whole heapin' helpin' of old to overshadow the quality young talent.

AJ never kicked out of an F5 since that is saved for Reigns at Mania, but he did avoid it like 6 different times.

AJ looked much better in this loss than Joe or Storman did, I think the big shift was back and forth momentum instead of just AJ dominating the whole time than catching 1 F5 and losing like the previous 2 matches Brock fought.

He's teflon as it is, but he came out of that looking great, in kayfabe and reality. Carried Brock to his best and most competitive match in forever—though you see why dude has only done five-minute sprints the last however long. He looked *gassed*. Against almost anyone other than Styles, that match is a disaster.

If anyone should kick out of other people's finish, it should be Brock.

I'm more concerned with the way Brock generally manhandle his opponent for 85% of every match.

Tonight, he was used perfectly. AJ looked like a god out there. Sure, he lost to an F5, but they told a he'll of a story and made Brock look exceedingly mortal in the process.

The monster's legend grows, but so does that of the knight who damn near slew him.

I probably don't have to explain why, but like, if the point of the Owens and Zayn run-in was to distract Shane so he couldn't save Orton, why couldn't they just fuck Shane up and leave, then have him come to and realize he's left going one-on-three? What's accomplished by having him chase off two guys who should be the hottest heel act in the company by himself?

That's to say nothing of the same old masturbatory HHH-McMahon bullshit in the actual finish, but I think that may have irked me the most.

And, to be fair, he also does have a bit of the Randy Ortons about him where he needs motivation to actually be the unorthodox ass-kicker that he can be.

I don't watch NXT, but it seems like a AAA-level farm system for the main rosters (both to develop new talent and for talent from "rival territories" to prove that they belong).

WWE has done, in my opinion, a great job in developing and growing its female roster. So why have they just brought up six "minor leaguers" to crush both shows women?? I thought on Monday it was a means to bring Paige back, but then it happened on Tuesday with a different crew...I don't get it...

When I saw Paige turn up on Monday I was surprised who she had with her: I really didn't think DeVille was ready for the call-up and it looked like her push was just beginning on NXT so that was weird timing; I actually don't know much at all about the blonde woman they were with and I watch NXT every week. I thought the obvious two she should've brought were Royce & Kay.

And again, I'm clueless as to why they're not only recreating the exact same story at the exact same time on Smackdown, but again with two people I wouldn't really have thought were ready.

Interesting to see if they'll unify the stories in some way.

I saw someone else lay it out - Paige needs lackeys. Deville is still raw, but she's got great looking strikes (TAKE NOTE SHANE- THIS IS HOW YOU DO HYBRID FIGHTING/WORKING STRIKES) and is believable as muscle (plus, if Rousey ever shows up, Deville's an excellent miniboss for Rousey to go through on her way to a champion Paige). And Mandy Rose looks like a legit-tough version of Dana Brooke, with better ability.

Plus, Royce likely has a title program against Ember coming up.

as you've kinda said, the other two are presented ultimately as lackeys as opposed to an awesome faction where anyone could be the breakout star. You mentioned DeVille vs Rousey but DeVille hasn't done anything even on NXT to warrant that match-up other than the fact she wears MMA gloves.

I really don't mean to crap on the angle at all - I'm a big fan of the women's division, and what it should become, but I was just surprised by the 5 call-ups and the similarity in the two angles.

Paige instantly elevates them, because she's a made and major star returning that they're an integral part of. Iconic Duo doesn't need that lift- they SHOULD be stars from jump over on the main; they're like the Bellas if the Bellas could work. Also, Rousey hasn't debuted yet, and Paige doesn't have the belt - so they have PLENTY of time to build Deville up as a credible contract killer for Paige.

Meanwhile on the blue brand, Ruby Riot's group can be more Shield-ish, as Ruby and Sarah have the indy cred like Ambrose and Rollins had.

In response to Reply # 55

I think we have to let it fully play out to see where it's going first.

Maybe the 2 groups are related which is why they did it the same way and both look the same as well and this is the start of an NXT takeover type storyline. Too early to say they did it wrong until we know for sure they have no real plan.

But Paige is obviously not a minor leaguer, and Ruby is ready to compete with any of their top women right now. The other 4 are probably just the fill ins because this is likely their best chance to get over. They'll never make it huge on their own and you don't need to waste the spot of 3rd ranked in a 3 person group on someone who you can do something better with.

Let's let it play out, hopefully it's not as lame as the original groups of 3 they did when Charlotte and Sasha and Becky first came up.

Ember Moon just won the NXT Woman's championship. You have the Iconic Duo of which Payton is really the breakout star. Those two need to be together. You have Nikki Cross who is still a top conditioner and also a member of Sanity and Kari Sane who just got there but is also a main event contender.

That's one champ and three others that could go for that title at any point. You can't make any of the other minor female characters jump straight into the main event that fast. This lets them build a little bit more, we already know they're strong so moving them to WWE right now really does nothing. They'll get their call ups soon but you can't completely bleed NXT dry. Ruby was a great choice to move up as they gave them at least one female main event caliber star and the others on Raw have Paige to back them up.

If anything I say throw the title on Payton or Nikki Cross sometime soon for a bit just to solidify their spot as would be top contenders as soon as they arrive on Raw or Smackdown in the future. As we saw with both groups on Raw and Smackdown. Paige will be the main girl of the bunch on Raw, Ruby will be the main girl of the bunch on Smackdown and the others they arrived with will be great mid carders for the woman's division.

1) they had the Mae Young classic bring in an influx of new talent and they didn't have a place for some of the women who had been around NXT for the past year

2) Survivor Series kinda turned every woman face so I think a shake-up with some new heel wrestlers was needed. I don't think it was particularly well-executed (would Liv Morgan and Ruby Riot hang out irl?) but I'm curious to see where it goes.

The only thing I can think of is they all got sent to the main roster and decided to stick together since they're from NXT.

The ones with Paige were from the Tough Enough that she was a judge in if I'm not mistaken.

Gimmicks = look, motive, shtick >>> all of the wrestling moves

He has the look and ability to control a crowd for sure. He is the rare case of someone who had a gimmick made for the main roster more than NXT.

He's green in the ring but that can come with time. If he can get that and the backing of WWE he can make it huge.

Oddly enough he is my coworker's cousin. He kept telling me about his cousin Joe who was a wrestler, finally I look the guy up and I'm like "trying to be a wrestler? Dude is in the biggest of shows, you should catch up with him"

i am all about the gimmicks. If you dont have a good one I dont give a shit how good your in ring work is. Elias and Aiden English are so great right now. Aiden is actually damn good in the ring too which surprised me. Then you have guys like Roode or Nakamura who just arent doing it for me right now. Im so bored with them and they were supposed to be huge stars coming up out of NXT. Looks like they are staying on the Nak push. But Roode just faded away after his first match.

you might've seen this coming. I didn't think he'd be THIS successful by any means but I knew he'd stick around for a while (while on TV I thought he sucked). He's been a heat magnet since day 1 and he's only gotten better at controlling the crowd since. I think he's pretty good in the ring too, or at least he has his moments. He has the build to hang with both big guys and small guys and besides those guitar shots he works safe.

Why take away the name Samson though? Even when they come up with a perfect last name they still get rid of it.

I definitely felt bad for Roman the dude. The boos don't affect him the way they used to, but he's clearly enjoyed the crowd coming around on him the past few weeks.

We're all smarks on some level because we dissect wrestling on the internet and argue about it, but I just got back from an NXT house show and you know the people I mean.

The one's who are in it for themselves just to get people to laugh at their chants, or just root for whoever the majority of the crowd doesn't like to be different.

The people who root loudly for a jobber over Alestar Black
The people who root for Tino Sabotelli against Street Profits who are wearing the cheap pop local jerseys

The ones who chant for local radio celebrities they see in the crowd

The ones who chant CM Punk still

The ones who chant this is boring during an Adam Cole, Roderick Strong and Cien 3 way title match that was insane just because everyone else is chanting this is awesome.

Fuck those people, nobody thinks you're as cool as you do.

The best is when the rest of the crowd catches on to the one or group of assholes and chants "SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP." clapclap clapclapclap to them just to let them know they're finished with their shit.

They go to shows strictly to get themselves over and make it about them.

Let the performers perform and STFU. Random stuff is fine, but all the orchestrated stuff is tiresome IMHO....and I ealize that I'm in the minority on this.

I don't need to hear "you suck" everytime Angle comes out...or "Yes" when Bryan shows up.

No, "this is NOT awesome" every time two spots hit in a row.

"WHAT" should have died with Steve Austin.

let the drama play out without the constant fan participation...

This is awesome literally happens during every good match, the fans just want to have that historic moment so they try to make one every show.

Holy shit used to be when New Jack would jump off a balcony onto a pile of barb wire.

Now someone gets knocked through a pre loosened barricade that literally collapses everytime a wrestler is thrown into it and we chant Holy shit

The Angle "you suck" chants come off as disrespectful to me at this stage.

The "this is awesome" chants are lame now too. If one guy ducks a clothesline, then the other one does, just stop and stare at each other and people start chanting it. So irritating.

Dualing chants are the worst for me at the moment. As soon as a section start cheering for one person, a cheer automatically starts for the opponent.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Spent the whole night just trying to get himself over, trying to be the gatekeeper of wrestling by displaying his superior knowledge of all the guys' indie careers and shit. Only at one point he exposed himself.

(copy/pasting this story I told on Wreddit)

Last night at NXT Lowell during Chris Girard's entrance they accidentally flashed "Manny Andrade" on the big screen before quickly fixing the mistake and correctly putting up "Chris Gerard" in time as he walked out.

Manny Andrade would be appearing later on the show, but for a non-casual NXT fan Manny Andrade is the current ring name for La Sombre, the Mexican luchadore WWE signed to NXT late last year. Now myself, that's as far as I know about La Sombra/Andrade. And I'm sure most of us could say that same.

Well, not for the guy behind me, who proceeded to refer to Chris Girard as "La Sombra" - acting like a big fan who had been watching him in Mexico - for the first half of the match before being corrected by his friend that that was Chris Girard, not Andrade.

Smark card revoked.

I haven't watched a Punk match in forever cause his biggest fans have kinda ruined him for me. There's a guy at my local shows who only wears CM Punk gear (sleeves and all). I don't even think he's particularly bad, but let it go boys. There's too much great wrestling out there to be focused on a guy who left almost FOUR years ago.

There is starting to be a backlash to some of this behavior, but not enough. These are also the folks that were still chanting "this is boring!" during women's matches even as the 4 horsewomen were coming up.

And this era in time and space is the worst one for this type of shit. The average bro has never been more self-important and horrible at his worst. The last thing I want at a rasslin show is that guy hollering shit out to try to rig the show to his contrarian leanings.

It’s occasi funny, but these dudes are more hits than misses now. It’s embarrassing really.

That shit was kinda heavy at Survivor Series too. Meanwhile, I was comfortably having a good time just marking out for cool shit. Asuka. Boss. AJ. Glorious. Brock. Braun. Those folks. I was lucky enough to be in the ‘shield comes out’ section so I got to see that entrance up close. It was dope as hell. And they all looked happy as hell to be doing it again. And yeah, Roman looked big.

if it ain't a Vince creation, he has a hard time getting behind something.

AJ Styles has been the biggest surprise, his work is that undeniable.

But usually Vince won't try to get something over that started elsewhere.

I do think the WOKEN merch is going to sell like crazy though so that could be an influencer

He's long past the point of anyone taking him seriously in the "real" "WWE Universe," so re-contextualizing him within Matt Hardy's Bizarro World—where he's really belonged since he projected bugs into the ring and started having pre-taped fights in haunted houses—could end up rehabbing him.

Of course, I find it really hard to believe that Vince grasps the Broken (excuse me, "Woken") stuff, and I can't imagine he'll allow it to flourish, but I guess we'll see.

he acts more heelish every week and i think that's been the plan all along (hard to get over as face when you're just known as the boss' son and haven't jumped off anything that's 50 feet tall yet). in front of the crowd he tries to act like a face and issue "i'll take on any challenge" statements and blah blah blah, but backstage he's begging his dad for opportunities, whining about everything, and lying about injuries when it suits him. think of it as them manufacturing a rocky maivia/the rock turn. not that he'll be anywhere near as brilliant, but i'm liking it so far. besides mic skills (which i've become more optimistic about when he started whining) he has the tools.

A one that thinks just because he's Kurt's son his dad can throw him into matches with who he wants and for what title he wants. Eventually he'll turn on Kurt and become a heel, you can see that coming. The thing is this dude is pretty damn good in the ring. He put on a really good match with Roman. Think about how when The Rock first arrived and he won the IC title, the fans held up signs saying Die Rocky Die despite the fact he was a baby face. That heel turn eventually sky rocketed him.

the thing that sticks w/ the the most is how stuck he gets on the mic. now maybe that's part of the character too and if so then he's got something going.

i'll keep watching. if for no other reason than i have a weird knack of flipping over to raw when he's on lol.

do they still do those condensed episodes? 3 hrs is a lot to commit so i usually just end up flipping over while MNF is on commercial until Raw goes to commercial.

Since Jordan is so good in the ring but a whiny brat I'd book him to the point that he can really go in the ring but as soon as he gets an opponent that almost has his number he does some heel cheating tactic to pull out the win rather than earn it and then act like he did nothing wrong.

He can continue to demand respect from the crowd.

See i buy this whiny entitled act. He is fucking annoying. He is doing a good job at selling that part of the gimmick. But then he goes in the ring and is a monsteR. He took RR to his limits yesterday. But I don’t see the spoiled kid as a wrestling powerhouse like that. My other big problem with his gimmick is it makes Kurt look like shit. You already got Stephanie demoralizing him like only Stephanie can. Now you got his son kicking and screaming every 5 minutes on Raw. They brought Kurt back for this?

He's a monster in the ring but he's whiny as fuck. He also shouldn't have to cheat at all but monsters lose sometimes also which is why when his back is on the ropes and he's about to take an L that most people would want to see he should absolutely cheat to pull out a win. The crowd would despise him.

Also Kurt getting shit on by Steph and his son never being happy with his opportunities is going to make Jordan that much more of a heel when he turns on Kurt after all he's done for him. Sets up the Father vs. Son match later. Those two going at it in the ring would be nuts.

I think long term this will work. Jordan is crying more every week and I think the payoff could be huge. It's the WWE though so there is a 33.3% of this working, and also with 33.3% YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING DRASTIC GO DOWN

122. "bullet points from Sasha's ep on the Stone Cold podcast"
In response to Reply # 0

http://podcastone.com/episode/Sasha-Banks

1) Sasha did MMA training because she watched RVD's DVD and he did it

2) Sasha dropped out of MMA school and joined wrestling school because she didn't like being punched in the face

3) None of the boys in the wrestling school wanted to slam Sasha because she was a girl, so the trainers made them treat her like an equal

4) Sasha cried every day on the ride home from wrestling school because the trainer was so harsh on her, but she appreciated it

5) In spite of the trainer "Handsome Johnny" attempting to break her, quitting wrestling never crossed her mind

6) Sasha asked her trainer to be an extra for WWE, but he said she wasn't ready, so she emailed WWE herself and got a reply within 10 minutes to do it

7) Someone pointed out that if Sasha went to the WWE she'd be doing bra and panties matches, she hated that, and said she wanted to go to Japan and Mexico to be a real wrestler

8) Sasha keeps a journal and writes in it daily

9) As Mercedes-KV, Sasha admits she was a bland babyface that just loved to do MOVEZ without telling a story

10) When she got to NXT, Sasha was just used to make other girls look good because she was a good wrestler with nothing else going for her

11) Tyler Breeze and Mikaze (Sasha's seamstress husband) helped her come up with a list of characters until The BOSS was ultimately chosen

12) Dusty Rhodes loved "Sassy Sasha" and wanted to push her new character after she stopped being a bland babyface

13) Sasha was going to give a generic corporate answer when Austin asked her if she enjoys being a heel or a babyface more by saying both, then she went into full shoot mode and said "I've been thinking about this a lot recently, and I definitely prefer being a heel."

14) Sasha went on to highlight the fact that the fans cheer the heels and boo the babyfaces because they're so poorly written and bland, and the heels kick ass.

15) Sasha said the only reason she enjoys being face is to make the kids happy and to see them dress up as her

16) Sasha said she knew before she locked up with Bayley at NXT Brooklyn 2015 that it was going to be special(In an interview a week before the match, she promised it would be "the greatest women's match you've ever seen"

17) Austin went on a tangent about intensity, believability, and character work being more important than high spots and bumps. Sasha said she and Bayley don't have to talk at all, but she takes pride in her secretive spot calling

18) Austin compliments her hidden spot calling by saying he's never seen or heard her do it in a match

19) Sasha tries to stay in touch with what the current fans want, so she constantly asks herself if she should do more spots, or focus more on storytelling

20) Sasha realized she was OVER when NXT crowds started chanting "SASHA'S RATCHET!" then eventually "NO SHE'S NOT!"

21) Sasha stole The BOSS persona from Snoop, but they weren't close, and she didn't meet him until he performed at a concert in IOWA when she was 12. Sasha used to beg Snoop to bring her to wrestling shows when he was in town, and she can be seen sitting in the front row in various pictures online

22) Sasha said until Paige's invasion with Mandy and Sonya, Sasha said creative only wrote for the Women's Champion

23) Sasha's happy to be working with the new girls so she can be in a storyllne

24) Sasha wants Women's Tag Team Championships so the women who aren't champion can do something of importance

25) Sasha's excited for the Indian tour because she sees a lot of Indian fans tweet her their excitement.

26) Sasha said wrestling in a quiet arena is the worst feeling ever. She'd rather be booed than wrestle in silence.

27) Sasha's favorite shows are Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, and Stranger Things

28) Sasha's biggest fear is being an over the hill wrestler who's past her prime, so she contemplates early retirement

29) Sasha wants to eventually sit on her couch and be a mother, but she said she will leave retirement in God's hands and not put a date on it.

30) To get herself TV ready, Sasha says a prayer, thinks about what happened to her last week, then puts herself in "The Baddest Bitch" mode because she knows no one cares about her full babyface character

31) Sasha's slightly frustrated because they've teased her heel turn so many times and she's wondering "Is this ever going to happen?" but in the meantime, she's trying her best to make her babyface character work

32) Sasha closed the interview by saying she hopes they're getting a Women's Royal Rumble

Her being the babyface in the Charlotte feud was absolutely the right call, but it just ain't working anymore. Would've helped her and Bayley if she had already turned on her but now they're stretching it out too long. Unfortunately with the arrival of a heel faction I don't think they plan on turning her heel anytime soon. Plus she seems to sell a decent amount of merch which always makes them hesitant.

I'm gonna listen to this a little later. Glad she's giving honest answers though.

I caught some of Raw for the first time in months last night and saw basically all the other females attack Paige’s crew. Did they randomly turn them all face? They’ve done it before with Nikki Bella like 10 times, lol. It would be a shame if they wasted all of Alexa Bliss’s strong heel work and turned her face like that. Not sure if that’s the case?

And they should’ve had Sasha turn on Bayley a long time ago, back when Bayley was champ. They basically wasted her for the entire year. I don’t get it. The shelf life of women wrestlers is usually short. She’s the best one they’ve got and they never pulled the trigger on giving her a real run. Heel title run needs to happen.

You have the NJPW USA show that's taking place next year on the west coast, and then you have the Jericho wrestling cruise coming up also. I'd like to see Omega take the first one then Chris take the second and have the tie breaker at the last show. I think Jericho can hang honestly and he'll be unleashed. I do expect a slower paced match but look forward to this one being way better than expected.

Right now Okada is the longest reigning champion. He has nothing to lose at this point and can eat an L. I really want Naito to take this. L.I.J. is on fire right now and I'm looking for Sanada and EVIL to take the tag titles at Wrestle Kingdom.

I wasn't sure if he could keep up with Omega at his age if they decided to do a straight wrestling match, but an intense brawl will mask his deficiencies and probably make the match better than it would have been.

Jericho is a feud mastermind. Omega is basically prime HBK/Hart for the 2017. Dude has a ridiculous motor and a wonderful mind for match layouts. New Japan's main event template is a damn good one but Omega is one of the guys who is making the most of it fo sho. It's going to be GREAT.

At the top of the screen it will say JP and EN. Click on that to switch the site to English. its translated from Japanese so it isn't perfect but should be enough for you to navigate around the site. It's about 999yen a month which translates to just under $9.99 so for some its cheaper than the WWE Network even if by a few cents. If you subscribe make sure you do it on the first of the month. They bill you on the first no matter when you sign up.

Normally when a show is live it'll show on the top highlighted in yellow. You can always go back and watch older shows as well, some of the big shows have English commentary.

Here is a spreadsheet of recommended matches in order of year, you'll see some WWE talent on these as well. Good way to see some amazing pro wrestling matches that you may have missed.

why the hell didn't they get the Jinder rematch out of the way on a Tuesday night? No one wants to see this, let alone pay for it, and we all know he's gonna lose. I'm not sure why a 3rd man was added to the US title match or why 3 teams deserve a shot at the Usos. Charlotte/Natty always has the potential to be great and I'm kinda excited for this Owens/Zayn match even if it makes little sense, but there's not much here.

and fuck the Bludgeon Brothers gimmick. yuck and a half.

None of these matches make sense to me to be honest...especially the tag title match. Instead of using Clash to start big feuds at the top of each belt list, we get this???

>and fuck the Bludgeon Brothers gimmick. yuck and a half.

They look like a cut-rate, sad version of War Machine. Enough of Rowan already...he stinks, and find some way to make Harper relevant, or he can go to IMHO.

seriously. just go back to only having the Big 4 if you're gonna put on cards like this for the other PPVs.

Did anyone else watch? lol

The tag team and US Title matches shouldn't have been multi-man matches, but they were pretty hot. I didn't think I could enjoy a Ziggler win, but that was a really creative way to get there. Corbin continues to be the dumbest wrestler in kayfabe and it's actually entertaining. Also Rusev Day and the Usos are so fucking over.

The women's title match was a mess, and not just in the way that Lumberjack matches are supposed to be. They have their classic women's division problem where they don't know who's a heel/who's a face/why those alignments matter and it really drags everything down into the muck. Natty and Charlotte are great storytellers, especially together, and adding in the rest of the division only complicated things.

I loved the KO/Sami match. Would've liked to see Nak featured more, but this sets up a lot of possibilities for everyone involved. Surprised it didn't headline, but the WWE title has been on the backburner for so long that I can't complain.

AJ will go down as the MVP of the company 2 years in a row (Usos are my #2 right now). He could get 4 stars out of anyone.

Bludgeon Brothers... ugh

Team Hell No should've been his last run and he should've transferred over to the training staff or fully gotten into politics.

Jordan can't beat a soul, and now he has a belt.

Paige and the gang walk in and beat up three womens' champions EVERY WEEK - the same three - and the rest of the roster doesn't exist.

Kane is "relevant" for the 2647th time.

I like Ruby, but individually they're all worse versions of the same roles in Paige's stable which really reinforces the B-show thing for Smackdown. A Paige stable would make more sense on Smackdown anyway. Between Asuka, Nia, Sasha, Bayley, and Alexa there are already enough established contenders on Raw. Plus a Charlotte/Paige feud could've really carried Smackdown until Mania and is one of the only situations where babyface Charlotte would make sense. As it stands the SD women's division is really confusing. Am I supposed to cheer or boo Nattie, Tamina, Carmella, and Lana?

Booking her angle at the same time as Paige's was . . . not the best. And it doesn't help that Liv Morgan is there doing sub-Aksana work in every segment they're in. And Sarah Logan is . . . also there.

If they wanted to wait, have Ruby go at Ember in NXT and then bring her up as, like, part of a Kaitlyn comeback (apparently she's been training to get back in it)? Yeah, absolutely.

Super weird gimmick vs Super weird gimmick rarely works, especially as a way to "debut" a new gimmick.

Like when Mordecai debuted and feuded with the Taker. Or really any of the weird gimmicks they had Taker squash.

When you do this mythical vs mythical stuff, the loser basically is rendered useless. It also doesn't let one stand out as that weird because everyone involved is weird.

ALL FOUR GUYS looked great. The run-in was quick and efficient. Johnny BahGod Wrestling is maineventing a WWE-ish PPV in 2018.

I had a list of events once I find them again I’ll post it.

Any predictions? I picked Omega to win but I have a strange feeling Jericho might walk away the winner since it's no DQ.

I'm sending all my energy to Naito.

I haven't watched the show yet, and I have to admit I don't follow NJPW super closely, but Naito losing has to mean Omega is going to dethrone Okada at some point soon, right? Are there any credible challengers left? Plus, they haven't really done the Okada-Omega rubber match yet, given that one of their three matches was a draw.

This was undoubtedly a spike in eyes on the product, in a way this is NJPW making a first impression/debut to a lot of eyes internationally. Okada, even as the longest reigning champion and the guy who had held the title for the most commutative days in company history, is still the future. He's only 30. He just became the ace 2 years ago and has a lot of prime years left. He's the guy you want to cement to the new fans as THE guy. Naito is hot right now, hotter than anyone in the company, but Okada is still their best performer and they have a lot invested.

The story this year was Naito finally getting his main event, the opportunity that he earned but was unfairly taken away from him 4 years ago. The next time will be all about finally beating Okada at WK, similar to the Okada/Tanahashi arc from WK7 to WK10. My guess is Naito defeats Okada at Dominion for the title, Okada wins the G1, and Naito finally beats him on the big stage, successfully defending the title in the process.

NJPW has a great conundrum right now. They have 3 guys who are super over and unbelievably talented. Seriously, in-ring talent wise, name a better top 3 in a company at any given time than Okada/Omega/Naito. Unfortunately they all can't wear the belt at the same time, but I think Naito is next while they use Kenny to build their US operation.

That Invasion era roster was probably the best shit ever. And it coulda woulda shoulda been even better but it just didn’t go the way it needed to for the most part. Too many injuries. Too much bullshit/politics. Not enough Austin and Rock. No Sting. Too much time wasted. The Mania 20 card is insane.

Great angle, great match, enjoyed the overall presentation(commentary, camera work, crowd) far more than what the WWE produces these days.

May have to give it a real shot. I can’t see myself ever enjoying more than like 1% of what WWE does at this point.

The fatal 4 way for the Jr Title was absolutely amazing. Okada vs Naito had me on the edge of me seat jumping up and down.

They're showing a condensed version of WK12 tonight on AXS if you have that channel also doing a marathon of some of the events this year.

NJPW is strong as hell right now and this is the perfect time to jump in. Im seriously considering going to their US show this march in Long Beach.

Naito was poised to win that match, and Okada took 6254365 Destinos and still won...damn

The match was excellent though, as was most of the card. My faith in New Japan was only cemented by Wrestle Kingdom and last year's G1. WWE can't breathe on either one of those events...even the Long Beach event last year was PPV worthy and that was a free card.

A lot of people tuned in for Jericho vs Omega and no doubt this was theme first time. I think they want to drive it home that Okada is THEE man. He's there Cena/Hogan and they want to make sure he is the guy especially in the Tokyo Dome. I think he'll lose it eventually. The main story was this was Naito's fist main even WK match after getting screwed out of it some time ago.

Honestly wouldn't mind if Naito took it at Dominion this year. I was disappointed because my pick didn't win but I wasn't mad because it was a hell of a match. Whoever dethrones him it's going to mean a whole lot at this point. LIJ is hot there now, Naito will get it soon enough and may defend and win at the next WK.

My guess as well. Okada is awesome so I have no problems with him main-eventing. Oak27's post makes sense as to their booking strategy. If Okada made it it to WK13 as champ that would be bananas. I expect Naito (or maybe Omega in a title for title match) to take it off him and that will probably be at Dominion.

Really glad to hear about their numbers too. I hope this got enough eyeballs on them to make WWE rethink some things. Probably not, but WWE needs some competition in the worst way.

Yes they do. More than anything, they need some high end rasslers in other feds to keep turning them down while going out and putting on crazy good matches THAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY SEE. Omega has to be killing them right now. He grabbed the matrix after AJ left and is putting on main event clinics. And that shit he just did with Jericho was magical. It was also great because it showed that it isn't just 'go in and get crazy with NJPW's talented core'. He went in with an old Jericho with a 1-match program and blew it up. And that finish was BRILLIANT.

I'm also hella happy about Jericho staying around and rubbing elbows with Naito. They can have some good as hell matches too.

WWE needs to quit tripping with their talent. They need to get their disputes over with too. Neville for instance..that needs to be resolved. Dude is too good to be on a shelf somewhere. I can't imagine anyone being too cool about jobbing to on the outs ass Enzo.

when I started watching she was out with her other injury. But man she was so good on the mic and really good in the ring. I was looking forward to someone in the women's division who was the whole package. Sasha, Bailey, and Natalya are great in ring but they are crap on the mic. Sucks that she is done. She is young as hell too. But I read she has been performing since she was 13. So she already has a pretty full bump card.

he is a fucking cartoon character and i enjoy anything he does. It's funny because when he started to turn the tractor over my son was like OMG he is flipping the production trailer!!!!! He was yelling it. Then when he realized it was just the tractor he was like okay that makes sense. No way could he turn the whole production trailer over. Kayfabe is alive and well.

Braun can survive ambulance crashes, turn over ambulances, tear down the goddamned set and NOW turn over a truck, but one F5 was plenty to put him away.

Yeah, I know I'm a broken record on this. I'm not against the idea of a protected finish, but it makes all the really awesome Braun shit irrelevant. And it's going to be even MORE infuriating when Reigns kicks out of like 3 at Mania to beat him.

Exactly...he can lift trucks and powerslam people through rings, but one F5 and he's done?? I guess a People's elbow or Hogan legdrop would send him to the hospital...

In response to Reply # 210

I'm not familiar with their work in general, but there is a reason a lot of these guys go to NXT first.

It's not just that they need the work or to learn WWE's way, but it helps them build an audience, even if a smaller one and a body of work WWE can use to hype them up.

Gallows and Anderson were not popular enough outside of the IWC NJPW fans - I knew of them but don't watch much Indy wrestling so had never really seen them. They came in with such high expectations by WWE but they weren't popular enough to just be popular on their own so it failed.

AJ is really the only "indy" guy that could work for. Omega could do it too- though lots of people still haven't seen him fight.

I'm not invested enough to rank him properly or anything, but goddamn.

He had an impressive body of work before he linked up with KO, but he's arguably placed himself in that top tier when you really begin to look at all of his nuances.

He got over a fucking list. And a scarf. And a plant. A goddamned plant. At 45 years old. Like 90% Of his his shit shouldn't work at all, ever, for anyone, and he makes that shit pop.

Dude is on fire and is in the best shape of his career....It also helps that Y2J just came off an acclaimed match with Kenny Omega. Dude has no business being this good late into his career. He's going to make another run at a WWE belt.

Those things take a lot of power away from WWE and forces them to at least pretend to get that there is wrestling happening without them that is good. I don't think NXT is what it is without wrestling podcasts.

There's a bunch of terrible ones: the ones like Russo's when he's obsessed with making sure everyone knows that he was such a great catalyst to everything that was good about the most-watched period in rasslin. Ignore that most of the dudes are crippled if not dead from getting to the point of trying to smush 30 minutes of 'classic in-ring storytelling' into 3-8 minute bursts. Ignore that some of the absolute worst wrestling stuff in the last 25 years is related to him.

There's the superfan shows where every little detail of every show is parsed through for nuanced errors and issues. And liking anything other than 30-minute ROH-style matches is blasphemy against 'real good wrestling'. Ick.

But then there is the good ones: the ones where old dudes come together to enjoy the good times and call themselves and others out reasonably and fairly (or at least comically like Bruce can do when he's not too heavy on a grudge). They chat up with folks they'd otherwise not chat up with and give us another piece of information to enjoy.

That perspective of still being alive with other old cats and young dudes coming up gives some of the smarter guys a shot to say 'hey...fuck crybaby fanboys in general, but we COULD actually be better..how about this?'. OR 'hey, why the fuck wouldn't I come back for one more run before I get too old to do this shit'. OR 'hey, I'm pretty much a legend now. I just need to get these last few years right with good stories and matches. And fuck it..I'm filling time on a cable TV show. I may as well have fun with it. Let me get this scarf over right quick on the way to making everyone get how great Kevin Owens is. Let me do my part to make sure folks get that AJ Styles is goddamn amazing.'

I think those old dude podcasts have helped a lot of guys. I'm not sure if Kurt Angle ever gets clean without them. I'm not sure if Cena really gets off of his ass and tries to have good matches on his way to going hollywood without them. I don't know if something fun and absurd like Broken Hardy or Southpaw Regional Wrestling works without them. I don't think Stone Cold looks as good as he did last night without them. I don't think Jericho takes his ass to Japan again with Gedo without it. I don't think we get that little mini Goldberg run without it. Hush..it was fun and fine. We probably don't get to see WWE try to mend fences with Warrior and others without it. We can say what we want about how some of these guys were and still are scumbags. But I like seeing dudes not give up a chunk of their lives fucking with fake underwear fighting only to slink off into oblivion once a younger, smaller, faster dude with more movez shows up and replaces them. Now, the smarter and/or luckier of these old guys end up doing okay for themselves. That's good. I'd rather tolerate the occasional nostalgic circle jerk show than to keep getting texts from my friends on a Wednesday that another random rassler died at 47 after not being heard from for a decade.

And then to top it off you could run off a long fucking list of popular folks they didn't even get to show up. Just a joke of a show to anyone who's ever loved wrestling.

edit: Torrie Wilson somehow being finer than when she left was one of the few good things tho. Goddamn that fit life has done her well

I would have been PISSED if I paid to be there

Such a shit show last night, I was planning on watching something else but I didn't cause I wanted to catch this live. I regret that decision.

Seems like something you have let the WWE know about. I'm thinking this was the perfect excuse for them to be finished with him if he was such a pain backstage.

and I must echo what everyone else has said.

This is BAD. Like epic status bad.

Whoever came up with the idea to have an anniversary show as the final lead-in to a major PPV should be fired. Today. The memory lane pop-fest should have been a separate special event. This was just a hodge podge of crap.

The only good part was Miz getting the belt back, and that match was weak at best. I'm so glad I went out last night instead of watching this live...

So yeah, the nostalgia spots can only have so much steam. And like you I couldn't get over the fact that this was a go-home. It dawned on me this past weekend how messy that could get and had I not already been paying attention I wouldn't be able to tell you shit about Sunday's card.

In response to Reply # 245

Especially come Mania season. I look at something like WM20.....no special attraction old guys on the card at all really. The Rock sort of, but he was only a couple years removed from being their top guy and was still around for runs, regularly. And maybe Flair, but he was a full timer and part of a faction that he fit perfectly.

Now, every single year you’ve got old guys who show up just for Mania season. And we’re not talking old in that they haven’t been full timers in a year or 2. We’re talking like 10 years past being a full timer with some of these guys. Makes it hard to care and makes their younger guys like weak that they can just get bumped out of the important Mania spots by old guys every year.

In response to Reply # 246

1) Vince thinking that those are the guys that made him the most money - the "Attitude Era" guys - and he keeps going to the well with them, even now that the well is dry as can be.

2) I blame Undertaker. They kept bringing him back year after year, even when he obviously had little to nothing in the tank, and people went nuts...so they kept doing it They figured if he could bring that much pop, then why not go with other decrepit guys.

I agree with you, it makes it seem like their huge roster doesn't have the strenfth to carry Wrestlemania, and if that is the case it's because they waste so much of their talent that could be good mid-level or top of card workers.

In response to Reply # 247

Those were made guys who came in through the developmental ranks (yes, I know Dean and Seth came in through ROH/indies, but still started their WWE careers in Florida). Roman gets sick, and what happens? Angle takes the fucking spot and not, say, Alexander Wolfe (or some other NXT guy that would fit the whole Shield thing) or someone who could use the lift in the midcard - shit, why not Jordan in the first place?

And then they wonder why they’re not making stars. The fact that the Revival had to take that bullshit on Monday is just awful, and it’s going to kill them just like it did the Ascension. The best tag team on the roster in a walk and you just told the audience they’re not worth anything (yeah I known they lost to Gun and Gallows, but those guys were pretty much killed dead- they wrestled a match as their Southpaw characters, fercrissakes).

In response to Reply # 249

Yet this time of the year they throw in all these retired or part timers is totally absurd to me. So instead of building the next main thing, you rely on the old main thing that won't be around to carry your company.

I love Taker, I don't need to see Taker matches at Wrestlemania anymore, I have the network if I want to go back and do that.

It's a media thing with the WWE now. Flood your biggest event of the year with former stars like The Rock, that way you can be featured on the Today Show with all your celebrities. Wonder if people caught wind of this and started boo'ing and doing fucked up chants if they would get the point since the media would focus on all the negative attention it was getting? Maybe they wouldn't want to embarrass themselves.

But I watched the Raw 25 Year Anniversary. They clearly have no problem embarrassing themselves.

these mfers won match of the year in 2016, are as cohesive as any team can get, and tell a fantastic story in the ring... and now they're in the semi-annual "squashed by legends" segment?

But these guys are supposed to be one of your toughest tag teams on the roster. I feel like that spot should have gone to one of the lesser heel teams.

The only way they can give this some kind of payoff is to have them come out next week and take it out on someone established. Have them be pissed off and go on a tear through the Raw tag division.

I guess they could bring back the New Age Outlaws for that spot easily enough, but more likely The Revival is on the long list of guys they have no long-term plans for and they threw this together in the last couple weeks cause they were around. It's all about how Vince sees you and I think as they were coming back he said "oh cool, these are a couple small dudes we can feed to the legends!" I hope you're right, but the Smackdown tag titles didn't even get on Mania last year so I don't see the Revival being factored into this year's plans.

Raw got its highest rating in years with that boolshit

http://uproxx.com/prowrestling/wwe-raw-25-ratings/2/

However, the Raw that beat it in the last three years was the Raw after Mania 2015. Which ended with Seth Rollins spinning the title around his head like a helicopter (c) Petey Pablo

So they can either build new stars, or trade on nostalgia bookings. The problem is when they try to split the difference, and they end up trying to force Reigns, because they have no one else ready other than Big Match JERN.
