Andrew Wiggins is progressing toward a five-year, $148 million maximum extension according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.
The Wolves have been saying since July that they will give Wiggins his max deal and Shams Charania adds that he's expected to sign soon. The deal wouldn't kick in until 2018-19 and will keep him under contract through the 2022-23 season. Wiggins is more of a one-trick pony in fantasy for his scoring ability, but he should only improve his all-around game in his age-23 season. Being able to learn from Jimmy Butler could be huge as well.

Also, I thought Thibs had some front office power, yet I thought Wiggins gave Thibs constant fits because he was a shoddy defensive player. Does this move mean Thibs is a believer in Wiggins or that someone above Thibs made this move without his blessing?

This is screaming for some good photoshop treatment. A photoshopped picture of Thibs yelling his head off (probably because Wiggins didn't put his hands up to contest a shot) superimposed onto the body of a butcher wearing a bloody apron. Of course gripping onto a cleaver or large cutting device of some sort.
