So many people of his stature have assistants sending out tweets. He could've *so easily* just said "my assistant forgot to switch to his account, apologies to everyone."

Like, that's the go-to excuse for everyone. Even Ted Goddamn Cruz is smart enough to play that card.

If he doesn't admit to it, then he probably honestly cant move past it. Seems like a conscience clearing move, if not a smart PR one. I can understand him being sensitive of course, but jesus he's going to need some therapy or something - the dude is on top of the world and he's still going at trolls online.

it's interesting that the negative feedback serves as motivation for him to try and achieve more on the court. At the same time though, it doesn't make too much sense to me that he's that upset at folks that are pretty much strangers to him, and the fact that it's fairly easy to put the smartphone away and live your life, or at least only take criticism from folks that you actually know and should matter to you.

I wonder how many players are going to clown Durant for this behind the scenes, especially folks in the Warriors locker room.

Then again, I wonder if other players in Durant's age group do this as well since this is the smartphone era and clearly this is a new day and time in terms of how players think and operate (ie this super team stacking BS that is apparently accepted behavior).

in the streets of beantown. Totally different. Dudes disrespecting you to your face ain't about being overly sensitive.

now it seems the exception that a player isn't overly sensitive.

I do think the media/ and social media plays a role in allowing more criticism to hit the players and i think that has made them more sensitive.

if anything, it's tamer than before. Athletes used to try and get at reporters in real time back in the day.

with social media, you get a chance to pop off from your couch. That shit is way too easy.

Athletes always been super-sensitive. Only these new athletes gotta deal with even more media AND social media.

A lot of old school athletes even say they don't even know how the younger cats deal with the social media bs.

Not saying the newer athletes aren't on some corny shit, but let's not act like the older athletes would've handled the increased media and social media stuff any better. They did the same shit, just less cameras and platforms to speak on it

Posters here doing that is a cornball move as well.

I could understand if someone famous made a dummy account on a social media platform just to browse social media and not want to participate in order to preserve some level of privacy, but to make one up while having a real account for the sole purpose to advocate for yourself is just weak.

stuff as much as the average person. I don't get that. He's 28. If you're under a certain age, quite a bit of your "culture" is linked to the internet. He was probably trolling on the internet way before he was famous. So cool it's corny, but that's what's happening all around you when you post on message boards.

I can't think of one reason why creating an alias account to defend yourself isn't corny. The fact that he's one of the best ball players in the world makes it worse. If he was some scrub dude doing it, it would make a lil more sense. Still corny tho.

That's my main issue with this. He's not any cornier than all the other people that you post along with EVERYDAY that do stuff like this. You're older than him, why does he have to be your hero? All the dudes his age have grown up with/on the internet. Isn't there a possibility that he loves being on the internet just as much, or more than you?

YOU said that. So yeah, you expect better from him for some reason. The idea that he's supposed to be above his actions, because he's one the best basketball players in the world.

Kevin Durant is the same age as Lil B. Most of his generation comes off goofy to me. I'm amused that he got caught out there like that, but not shocked at all.

be less sensitive to criticism about basketball. Not about life or some other ish.

So if someone comes at him over ball, all he has to say in reply or ignore and say to himself is that i'm the #2 ball player in the world. STFU.

Now a scrub dude can't respond like that and it would make a little more sense that he's a bit more sensitive to criticism about basketball.

Either way creating an alias to defend yourself is corny whether you famous or not. Which he did. So he corny.

Plus you add in what we know of Kev's personality & demeanor, it doesn't shock me. Kev seems like the quiet type who thinks alot. I don't hear about him partying or anything. I went to a rap event where he was onstage and he's as lowkey as the only 7 foot man in the building could possibly be.
Where do people like that go to express themselves? The internet.
He's probably on some message board right now, trying to defend his name.

out of the idea of being famous. You can never do the wrong thing, because there's someone there with a camera ready to catch you in the act. You can never say the wrong thing, because the story will never go away. Back then it seemed like celebs lived in their own worlds, and public opinion never really got back to them. You would hear all sorts of stories of celebs doing crazy things, even regularly committing criminal offenses and going unpunished.

so people go harder

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

under 30 live on their phones, and are on the internet all the time. The idea of not partaking in social media is absurd to them, hence the need to make troll accounts.

I'm over 40 and I live on my phone, fb, ig, sc, twitter all that, but I'm just a regular old technology geek.

If I was a world famous pro athlete I wouldn't do it for multiple reasons.

not going on social media as an athlete could hurt an athlete's dollars as I have to think top athletes are paid to advertise products on their social media. Like most folks, I have to think they are wise enough to tune out the trollish responses folks send them and they just use their social media accounts strictly to put messages/photos/videos out there, not to actually converse with folks on an individual basis.

No matter who you are or where you are, if you get caught doing that you gonna get clowned.

The higher the stature of the person the more clownage that will take place.

that he has a team of folks running his "social media presence" and that's who f'd up?
that's most likely what happened to ted cruz too. in today's day and age, that's way more likely than an athlete creating multiple aliases. there's a whole industry built on maintaining individual or businesses' online reputations.
