And honestly, Mirotic is our stretch 4.

He started a handful of games before getting replaced by Taj Gibson,
who we then traded to OKC for Cameron Payne, who has a broken foot,
but still couldn't crack the lineup with Rajon Rondo, Jerian Grant,
Justin Holiday, Isaiah Canaan and Michael Carter Williams.

So yeah, Kris Dunn.

The kid can shoot, he's a perfect piece for Hoiberg, and he fits the current style of the NBA.

The questions are twofold:
1. Is he a star? I think he's a safe piece, but there are questions regarding just how good he'll be.
2. Was he the right pick at 7th? I would've picked him around 10th/11th personally, and I felt passing in particular on Dennis Smith Jr for Markkanen seemed *very* questionable given the team's glaring need for a point guard. Odds are if you answer yes to #1, you feel okay about #2 as well... but the iffier you are on #1, the more scared you probably are of #2.

So I'm not all that exctied about what Hoiberg will do with him. He's had shooters before and couldn't keep them on the court.

I know he's not a star, I'm just looking for some somewhat exciting basketball this season.

So there's definitely more upside there. I didn't follow Mirotic as a prospect but he easily is a better prospect than Dougie was-- it's not close tbh.

I can't give you much silver lining as I thought DSJR was the no-brainer pick there, but they're in tank mode anyhow, and the big prizes are next draft, so for now I'd keep an eye out for signs that Lauri lives up to being the next Ryan Anderson and spend some time watching Bagley, Porter, and Duval in college.

And since that's actually the best asset they got from Minny for Jimmy, they couldn't draft another PG and look competent (at least in their eyes).

If Dunn isn't doing 15/6 this season and improving on that for the next 3 yrs, they are gonna look like fools. And Lauri actually needs to be approaching something like Dirk.

The dumb thing about it all is, we might not even land top 3. We'd obviously have to go big (Ayton or Bamba) or SF (Porter). Drafting Bagley would mean giving up on Lauri and now we have to find a way to trade him for an asset.

I don't mean to be 'that' guy but everyone I know, including me, KNEW the Bulls were going to take Lauri at #7 and the reason was obvious. I think the kid has potential but it's definitely not the choice I would have made (especially considering we gave up #17 as well).

Dunn didn't impress last season, LaVine is coming off an ACL tear. You go for the best talent on the board. DSJ was that guy.

If it were me, I would have told Minny they get a second rounder instead of #17, I would have taken DSJ at #7 and used #17 on Giles if he was still there. Now you got insurance for Dunn if he never develops, a high risk/high reward player in Giles and then next year you add one or two more young pieces to fill it out (SF or C).

Ugh.

I had my concerns about him going into the NBA, but the potential is obvious, of course. And since it's a tank year anyway, YOLO, swing for the fences talent-wise.

Besides, if Dunn doesn't work out, oh well-- if you're stuck with a pick in that 6-8 range, Duval and Sexton will be there, and (bias disclaimer) I think Duval in particular is a hell of a prospect.

They just need to #TrustTheProcess, get some draft picks, try to obtain young high-upside talent, and try to get a difference maker in the draft. (If you get a shot at Bagley, then you say peace out to Lauri SWIFTLY, lol-- or honestly just play them side by side in a smaller ball scenario, I think that'd work out okay in today's NBA.)

Valentine - 12/6/4
LaVine back next spring with some semblance of his former self.

9 guys in the league put up 15/6/4 last season. 7 are perennial all-star/all-nba/future HOFers in their primes.

and no one put up those markkanen projections. not 1 player.

they ain't doing them numbers, dogg. cmon. be a little more realistic. that's way too high an expectation for 1st/2nd year guys on a shit team.

>you didn't dispute the 13-69 though and that's the most

well, yeah. cause that's realistic lol.

you should know I start with unrealistic expectations and whittle them down. hahahaha

Ok Lauri will be more like 14/5 (I mean, if he can't get 5 rebounds playing 20+ mins a night...c'mon). Dunn, don't know what to expect but for him to be the main cog in a Jimmy trade, 15/6 should be plausible. The 4 rebs was pipe dreaming. Though I know 11/4 is probably more likely. They should have ample opportunity though.

Way I see it is, Niko (10/5 yr 1) and Nocioni (13/6/1.4 yr 2) came in a did ok with enough PT (Niko 20 mins, Noch 27 mins) and I think both Dunn and Markrakanen will have similar playing time.

But yeah, I'll damp it down.

>>you didn't dispute the 13-69 though and that's the most

>
>well, yeah. cause that's realistic lol.

So long as we land there, not super concerned about the number. Just be nice to see some promise from some of the young guys.

I want a top 3 pick.
For our sake and the sake of the front office.

But our rebuild would move a lot faster knowing we had something in the Finnish kid.

Lots of people hated on him in the TJ post. I like his skill set for the modern NBA. I do question whether he's got the fire in him to be more than a really good #2 or 3

But I guess that's fine for his draft position.

He'll have the chance on this bulls team though.

Is he one dimensional? Yes. Did that same dimension get a lot of players paid big money in recent years? Is it coveted? Yes and yes.

Also nothing says he can't get stronger and become serviceable in other areas of the game.

Was he the right pick at 7? Hard to say. Based on OKP and similar cysage, they should have taken Smith or Monk. They could have moved down for a couple of high-risk, high-reward guys who went later in the round to hedge their bets also, I guess.

I think it was a slight reach at 7 but the guy is not trash. He will have a long NBA career.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
