"Weekend Soccer 08.19-20: Jeez Luiz"

While I wouldn't go so far as describe Chelsea's offseason as a summer of discontent, they definitely did not have the kind of relaxing break that a title should allow for. Between the Diego Costa saga, Matic leaving to a rival to everyone's surprise, grumblings about Conte's new contract and Roman's divorce being all in the tabloids, the setting wasn't the most serendipitous for a good start to the season. But it's really 15minutes into the first game, with Cahill off after a bad though possibly unintentional tackle, when you knew that the struggle was going to be real. Now they go visit bitter rivals Spurs with some key personnel (Cahill, Fabregas, Hazard, Bagayoko) missing. I guess this is the part where loaning out 4 squadfuls of players doesn't sound so smart. Spurs weren't perfect against Newcastle last week, but they didn't need to be. They have most of their regulars available and surely smelling blood in the water. Much has been made of their slow adaptation to playing at Wembley, but if there's one game they'll be up for, it's surely this one. Especially with a potential club record 15th straight home victory at stake.

La Liga's opening weekend will probably be a bit more somber than usual due to the events in Barcelona, but hopefully futbol is the main news of the weekend. Barca have had their latest bid for Countinho rejected, leading to amounts that are starting to look unseemly for someone who is definitely skilled yet eminently streaky. But that's the state of things in the transfer market these days.

Mane and a bunch of mid table starters, no depth, and CL is a bad recipe.

ended 3-3, with a great equalizer from Bordeaux' Malcom in injury time

Bordeaux crashed out of the Europa in spectacular fashion this week so with that out of the way they might ruffle some feathers in the league this year

arsenal played well for long stretches.

great possession, just couldn't finish (per usual I suppose).

several decisions that went the wrong way, but that's how it goes, right?

Fell asleep ONCE AGAIN though to start the 2nd half, and that's all it took.

Penalty on Bellerin not called, penalty on Welbz not called, Laga's goal incorrectly ruled offsides. That's absolute shit officiating and I'm not one to blame refs...I can understand missing a call or two, but all 3 is completely unfair.

Last week were good. I'm kinda done with welbeck. Good guy, works hard but his end product and touch are not and never will be good enough.

This window I fear we will look back and regret not taking barca's $$ for hector. We don't talk about it but he's been kinda shit since last winter. Just play oxat rwb and sead at left. You know you want to, but I guess we've made promises so we do these weird awkward lineups.

The penalties- ehh, it's mariner. That was a goal by Laca though.

In response to Reply # 15

Ramsey tilts way too far forward and Xhaka isn't that disciplined so that pairing always gets caught out at some point and expose the back 3. Today, it led to the goal. Ramsey is way up the pitch, Xhaka turns the ball over and then tries to chase it down.

I love Xhaka's game but he needs to be allowed some freedom by pairing with a DMF who won't expose the back 3 by drifting forward.

That get nationalist and political I will safely assume they also get racist and xenophobic. I am sure the same gang gets down with the bananas and monkey so in s. Warsaw is not a friendly place for Africans.

And as we know nothing gets those juices flowing like fermenting anger based on past embarrassments and tragedy at the hands of others. I have no problem with sanctioning them for the first one.

that makes 2 good signings and a Paulinho out of this clusterfuck of a transfer window.

Liverpool ain't going and Barca look really bad in this whole mess, but I still hope we get Coutinho. I don't even care about the price. Dembele too. I don't want them to spend $150m but... everyone knows we got the money so we're getting gouged. Whatever. FFP doesn't mean shit apparently so...

Also, man, we need some cover at DMF. Sergio is great, don't get me wrong, but his lack of mobility really hurts us sometimes and no one ever says anything about it. His positioning is normally great, but when he gets caught out of position, it's ugly. He should start, but he needs a good back up, since we're not playing Masche much in that role. Same with Pique. His positioning is great, but his lack of mobility can really hurt us sometimes. Semedo should help in that regard.

it was the throw out that caused it. like, why you not taking your time right there?

he rushed a long ass throw trying to create some attack (i guess) that wasn't needed at that moment which was easily taken away and 5 seconds later you let in the winner.

like BKWhat said, De Gea woulda just kicked that shit into the cheap seats.

it'd be very easy to treat him like just another guy considering he's not a youth product and he only played there for 6 years.

for a superclub PSG has a real "were just happy to be here" vibe to me. and now with Neymar it looks like every match at the PDP will be a party.

super smart play, perfectly executed. The whip he put on that ball on one step is amazing. Leyvin handled it like a G, too (making up for how turble he was on the first Toulouse score).

Neyney is going to mess around and make me actually care for this team again.

i thought they were piss poor at transitioning into attack and blew far too many easy passes. obviously, that was more of a problem for dier and poor, poor, poor victor wanyama. But judged by dembele's normal world class, top 3-5 in the world at his position standard, i didn't think he was as strong with the ball or keyed as many opportunities as normal.

http://www.espnfc.com/paris-saint-germain/story/3184990/psgs-neymar-slams-barcelona-directors-the-club-deserve-much-better

Neymar has slammed Barcelona's directors in the wake of Paris Saint-Germain's 6-2 defeat of Toulouse on Sunday, telling reporters the club "deserve much better."

The Brazil international moved from Barcelona to PSG for a record fee of €220 million this summer, not a year after signing a contract extension with the Camp Nou club, despite desperate attempts from his Barca teammates to keep him in Catalonia.

The 25-year-old forward has started fast at his new club, scoring three goals and providing three assists in his first two matches with the Parisians. However, he turned his attention to the Blaugrana board following his latest dazzling display on Sunday.

"I don't have anything to say to the Barcelona board," Neymar began. "For me. ... Well, actually I have something to say: That I am disappointed with them.

"I spent four years there and was very happy. I began happy, spent four years happy and left happy. But not with them. For me, they shouldn't be in charge of Barca. Barca deserve much better, and everyone knows this."

Neymar spent four years at Barcelona before moving to Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar related that his former teammates were unhappy, and said he was cheering for the five-time Champions League winners to return to glory.

"To see my former teammates unhappy makes me sad also, because I have many friends . I hope that things get better for Barca. That they return to the team they were and become one that can compete with the others."

Right-back Dani Alves told reporters earlier this month that Neymar told him in July to move to the club as he was considering his own move to the French capital.

A smiling Neymar confirmed his PSG teammate's proclamation on Sunday.

"Look, one of the things I said, in case he had to leave, is that he had to come here, because of the team he has," Neymar said. "I think he took my advice."

If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and flop again. Shit is a joke - there need to be direct in game ramifications or this BS will keep on

Sky Sports reporting that a deal is close ($165mil); I don't see this as a good move for him or even for us but I've given up trying to rationalize PSG transfers

But I'm relieved it's finally done.
It's so frustrating how there isn't much of a way to avoid being fleeced in these transfers... so fuck it. Spend then.
Now let's get Seri finalized.
And hopefully Coutinho too.

So, him
Andre Gomes
Arda Turan
Paco Alcacer
Aleix Vida
Marlon Santos
Douglas

They can all leave. Bye.
