I don't go to many games...sell most of the tickets for some passive income
but boycotting isn't really a choice since I've been invested for awhile now...and make money off of it

on paper at least.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

haven't played FF since '00. i watch games by myself now 'cause i ain't trying to hear the homey talmbout how he "needs leveon bell to give xx points tonight", or which defense he started. idgaf.

the only reason i have sunday ticket anymore is so family not in northern cali can watch every niner game.

not gonna watch nfl network during the week this season. no sense in overly-saturating myself in an already-overly-marketed product, whose commissioner wants to overly-expand it even more.

hoping less is more for me this year.

NFL offenses have gotten so boring over the past few years. Pass happy but only 5 to 10 yards. It's like the teams are being coached by a bunch of accountants.

Other games I'll watch if there's nothing else going on, but certainly won't be going out of my way or losing any sleep to stay up for them.

I'll agree with many others that it's gotten boring.

I want to boycott, Although I said that the year that Greg Hardy's and Ray Rice's cases broke.

For the first time in a number of years, I'm actually interested to follow the league. Fantasy Football was killing my interest so I dropped out of my league to prepare for the season.

But as slight as my impact may be, I'm just going to keep my interest to watching highlights and PTI and Mike and Jemele. At least until (if) Kaep gets signed.

Your team is one of the few that takes chances and throws it beyond 10 yards. Plus you have the best RB to watch in the league.

I'm in a few survivor leagues, but don't need to watch it for that and haven't watched it hardcore for years. Will actively avoid going to any games or purchasing any merchandise as well. Also, looking at major NFL sponsors, although a great many of them I don't normally buy from now.

how is that the NFLs fault?

I have always applauded him for not worshipping that stupid flag just because he's expected to...it was the first time ever that I came to like the guy. I still hope he finds a team and is able to prove doubters wrong and do it all while still holding his ground on the national anthem.

But he was already fairly wack for a year or two prior to that debacle. So what makes anyone think they should sign him?

Counterargument is, that's basically a list of backups. Some 3rd string guys in there. These NFL dudes are not about to step out on a limb to sign a backup.

That doesn't mean people shouldn't boycott, but I think that's what we are actually seeing here.

NFL teams are ALLERGIC to controversy or anything that is going to be a "distraction". It's dumb, but it's real. Same thing with a player announcing they are gay. If Von Miller…or fuck it, even a guy like Danielle Hunter or Whitney Mercilius announced they were gay, they would have a job in the NFL.

If Sam Acho or announces he is gay, these guys are going to look at the cost benefit analysis and say, hey, we can find a different 2nd or 3rd string outside linebacker.

Again, doesn't make it right, but that's the reality of it. Like I said, if Cam Newton or Russell Wilson decides to kneel, they will be fine…or if they got cut teams would be lining up to sign them.

That said, I support people boycotting if that's how they feel. I personally don't feel the level of outrage about this that other people do for the reasons I outlined above but that's just me.

Sure I'd put Kap above a good number on that list, but most of those guys already have a certain rapport with the team, already in the system, and cutting one of them just to be the team to bring on Kap as the guy who you hope never has to play in a real game, and get him acclimated, all for the express purpose of satisfying the politics, just doesn't make sense. Those guys are already under contract and putting in work with their squads. Coaches and GMs aren't gonna just go "oh there's this guy out there who deserves to be in the NFL, sorry bro, but we're cutting you"

My guess is once injuries begin piling up at the QB position, some team who's thin will give him a look, if he's actually interested.

And then they'll have to weigh dealing with his gf and the possibility of being the team to waive him if needed. Unfortunately he does come with a shitload of unwanted baggage, but it's not his fault. He never did anything wrong imo, it's more the media's fault.

>Sure I'd put Kap above a good number on that list, but most
>of those guys already have a certain rapport with the team,

actually, over half of the names I listed signed with new teams this off-season. so no, that doesn't apply at all. I also purposefully omitted most cheap, controllable younger back-ups.

>all for the express
>purpose of satisfying the politics, just doesn't make sense.

actually, the point of building a NFL roster is to acquire talent. all things being equal (not a horrible teammate, veteran minimum's salary), there is no reason not to have a more talented player even if it came down to the 54th vs. 53rd roster spot.

>Those guys are already under contract and putting in work with
>their squads. Coaches and GMs aren't gonna just go "oh there's
>this guy out there who deserves to be in the NFL, sorry bro,
>but we're cutting you"

actually...WTF? this happens all the time. it's the main reason NFL contracts are so weak, in that players can be cut for performance or injury much easier than in the NBA or MLB.

also, Kaepernick has been a free agent since March. the same time as when these other quarterbacks signed with new teams.

>My guess is once injuries begin piling up at the QB position,
>some team who's thin will give him a look, if he's actually
>interested.

there we go with the "Kaepernick is choosing not to care." has this ever been publicly stated by him? meanwhile, Jay Cutler openly told people he stopped caring about playing football and is now on a roster.

>And then they'll have to weigh dealing with his gf and the
>possibility of being the team to waive him if needed.
>Unfortunately he does come with a shitload of unwanted
>baggage

that's it. that's all this is. it's not a talent issue, or money issue, or fit issue. it's about the politics of it. be honest with yourself.

they have no issue with kaep expressing his freedom of speech in reference to the flag but they aren't in the market or if goodell gave kaep a statement of support, as in there's no issue with kaep or any other player taking a knee, etc. etc. instead we see the opposite.

its not as simple as the nfl can't force a team to sign him.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

and hasn't been for a minute.....

the people I see really supporting a boycott don't seem to be really deep NFL fans who follow the game....

It's like Kap played in the Super Bowl...then he started protesting during the National Anthem...

a looooooooot of sh*t happened between that Super Bowl and Kap taking a knee... A lot of stuff....

Like losing your starting job to Blaine Gabbert......

Like tricking behind your teammates back with his girl, causing an altercation that gets your teammate in further legal trouble....

Like you not having the off the field work ethic that most teams would want their starting QB to have...

Your starting QB is a leader of men... that sh** with Aldon Smith is some Ho sh** .... I'm sorry it is.... and you can't tell me that doesn't doesn't impact how Kap was viewed around the league prior to his protest...

I respect his protest... you know he's not a dumb dude...he realized there would be consequences for his protest..... and he did it anyway.... I actually assumed he was leaving the NFL with his protest...not because he'd be blackballed but because he didn't intend on playing any more....

which I still wonder....does he even want to play now...peple are going through all this shit ....but does he want to play anymore...

but then he did all that...but didnt' vote...... so really I'm sorry.... he may be evolving... but he still on some bs with that....

and people acting like he and Nessa are friggin Nelson and Winnie Mandela..... ...man stop it....

people should boycott things that impact their lives.... the NFL is a business...its entertainment....

you want to stand up for Player safety....or against domestic violence....or guaranteed contracts for the players..... I'm bout it...

but it's reasons beyond the protest that's a hinderance to him continuing his career....legit reasons...

he was probably the most despised in his locker room at the end of the 2015 season....

after his protest last season..absolutely....teammates respect that...

does that change the fact that his play and work ethic had been below average ...or what he did to Aldon Smith..

it erases none of that...and is playing a role in him not being signed..

if y'all want to boycott the NFL.... g'head....but to pretend all that other stuff didnt' happen...or that last year erased that is not an intellectually sound argument...

and again I repeat.... Right today...show me some evidence that Kap still wants to play....that he's WORKING to play THIS season...

Kudos to Lynch (how ironic that a guy named Lynch is bucking the system regarding black peoples' rights) and Bennett for taking action, but the union itself should be pressing the issue, as well as the membership.

It has been that way for a few seasons now. I do watch the playoffs and the big games with playoff implications (e.g. Steelers-Ravens last year). The early season I have always thought was kind of sloppy and just watched it for 1) the Eagles 2) being around football culture.

I still kind of keep an eye on the Eagles all year but I don't have the same sort of dedication or patience that I used to.

Overall I find games difficult to watch (long, many stoppages and ads), it's hard to really get attached to players now and of course politically the league has really been reactionary. You kind of expect that from the NFL but wow they are really lagging behind say the NBA and NHL.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

the stoppages and commercials are grating. and the product as a whole just isn't very entertaining/interesting.

if my team was a contender I would certainly watch them. but i've found peace over the past couple years not giving a shit about the sport while they struggle.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

I don't like how they did previous star players and now since the owners have come out as the racist I always suspected them to be plus my real life schedule making time to watch dudes get brain damage is not imperative.

though the Cleveland Browns (!) finally might make me want to change my tune, of all teams.

this is the first year in a while I haven't even been paying attention to the Eagles like that. Like, I had no idea Alshon Jeffrey was on the team.

Trump implies fans boycott NFL until owners fire or suspend players that disrespect the flag by protesting during the anthem.

How do you reconcile boycotting the NFL with siding with Trump's suggestion? This ain't slander just a legit question. Is response changing from boycotting the entire NFL to supporting select players?

It's no more "siding with" him any more than if tomorrow he came out and said, "I brush my teeth in the morning," and I said, "ooh, so do I."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2017/09/24/were-not-going-to-play-politics-steelers-mike-tomlin-says-team-wont-take-the-field-for-anthem/?utm_term=.ea0d13143e6a

In what would be the first team-wide response to tweets by President Trump calling for NFL owners to fire or suspend players who protest the national anthem, the Pittsburgh Steelers will not take the field for their game against the Chicago Bears, according to Head Coach Mike Tomlin.

Instead, Tomlin told CBS’s Jamie Erdahl, the team will remain in its Soldier Field locker room. Tomlin emphasized the decision was based on removing the pressure from players feeling they needed to decide whether to protest or not.

“We’re chasing something special here in 2017 and we’re not going to play politics,” Tomlin said. “We’re football players. We’re football coaches. We’re not participating in the anthem today. Not to be disrespectful to the anthem, but to remove ourselves from the circumstance.

“People shouldn’t have to choose. If a guy wants to go about his normal business and participate in the anthem, he shouldn’t have to be forced to choose sides. If a guy feels the need to do something, he shouldn’t be separated from his teammate who chooses not to. So we’re not participating today. That’s our decision. We’re going to be 100 percent. We came here to play a football game. That’s our intent.”

Under the league rule, the failure to be on the field for the anthem may result in discipline such as a fine, suspension or loss of a draft pick. But a league official said the key phrase is “may” result, adding he won’t speculate on whether the Steelers would be disciplined.

The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the league rulebook. It states:

“The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.

“During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

Staff writer Mark Maske contributed to this report.
