"Magic The GM: We needed a leader, not a fucking clown!"
Sat Jun-24-17 12:34 PM by Basaglia

Magic implies Russell isn't a leader and players don't want to play with him

https://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2017/6/23/15866010/la-lakers-magic-johnson-dangelo-russell-isnt-a-leader-free-agency-trade-brooklyn-nets via @LakersSBN

You know what crazy? This wasn't even an agenda for me. I just wanted the guy away from my guy. It was never on some petty shit. But, given that the primary supporters of Russell are niggas who start a Soul Train line (Warren is the Asian hoe) whenever I take an L, I will count this among my long and illustrious agenda wins.

Not a leader. Not serious about being great. Nigga said he had ice in his veins after a summer league GW. Nigga put lines in his eyebrows. Said he'd be a sponge for Kobe wisdom, but Kobe couldn't stand him and publicly cyses guys he actually does mentor. Liking tweets that hate on Lonzo.

Y'all defended a fucking doofus for two years. I won.

Maybe he'll grow out of it. Who knows?

Not sure Lonzo is more talented or is more serious about winning though.

He's probably has less talent and I've seen him quit.

This is two different regimes and head coaches who have taken issue with his maturity, clearly DLo is the problem variable.

He needs a fresh start without the microscope of LA and with a great player dev coach in Atkinson, we dump a huge salary and get Brook in return - deal worked out for both sides.

unfortunately they had to give up something to get rid of Mosgov, which they needed to do to give themselves the best chance in free agency next year. If we're looking at it like Ball/Lopez vs. Russell/Mosgov....I'll take the first one any day. It's too bad that Mosgov signing happened. Would've liked to see a Ball/Russell backcourt.

I think Ingram has shown more potential as a playmaker and 3 point shooter than Miles ever did. Not that Ingram shot well, but he could at least make them. With Miles, it wasn't even an option. Though the real problem with Miles wasn't his talent level, its that he never improved and got fat at an early age. I'd hope Ingram has much better work habits than that.

you could get players his caliber 15-20, not number 2 overall. I am surprised they got what they did for him. Upgraded a position in the short run, dumped a shit contract and got a last first. Only the Nyets would make a dumb deal like that.

Lol please list them in last year's draft or this one.

"only 10 players 20 or younger recorded 15.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. Tyreke Evans, Derrick Rose, John Wall, LeBron James (twice), Kyrie Irving (twice), Chris Paul, Magic Johnson and, yes, D’Angelo Russell

His 3-point percentage (35.1), point (18), rebound (4.4) and assist (5) per-36-minute numbers through two seasons, he has joined an even smaller elite group: Stephen Curry, Larry Bird, Manu Ginobili, Chris Paul and James Harden.

Lmao at anyone thinking Lonzo is better. You also probably thought brick tossing Mudiaye would be better too.

This upcoming season gonna be so fun.

He ain't making no all- star teams. He ain't shooting above 45%. He gon go to BK and lose like a clown and MAYBE average 20. Big fucking deal. From what I understand guards who put up historical numbers their first two years are supposed to get in the playoffs their third season.

So, it seems the pile on is just beginning.

i said at the draft dude was good but not great, not an all-star. russell was never getting a second contract there, evident by the end of his rookie year. i am not real high on ball either but yes there is an excellent chance he'll be better. ingram has some question marks but in terms of potential he has more. we'll see how it plays out. not really checking for your opinion on OSU players, to hear you tell it duck sauce is a player.

I already admitted Evan is a bust. But he's still a productive player. Ppl who actually attended the school they stan for are objective.

I'm posting from a 5* resort with coconut and palm trees in my peripheral doggie. Hardly mad but thanks for the concern.

I say he will not be better than D-Lo.

That's all. If not, than this pile on is unnecessary. He can go to Brooklyn and turn into whatever he's gonna turn into.

I expect to catch heat because Russell will put up plenty of empty numbers on a bad team and Ball will have some growing pains. Long term I think Ball is a very good distributor for a good team and Russell will not be a player you win with.

but i think pelinka made a very good move to dump mozgov, if he can do something similar with deng they be in great shape.

that's the thing, i don't think you should ever put a GM "on the hot seat." back him or fire him. no interstices. the guys do desperate stuff to stay in power and then once you fire them it's your mess to clean up.

not sure ball is a downgrade. maybe in a one-on-one sense but in a team game i like ball's game a bit more.

Instead of mentoring and teaching the young cat, he shipped him away. Magic had the benefit of stepping into a team with a heavy veteran presence. So, he ain't have a choice but to be more mature and about business when he got there. DLo had Nick Young and who else to mentor, guide, or teach him?!?!?

I get the salary cap maneuver but damn. Why not Randle and/or any of the other young ones along with Mozgov? Ball, DLo, and BI would have been fun to watch grow together.

But like the article said, two coaching staffs tried to get through to him without success. He is only 21 and there have players, like Wall, who turned the corner after becoming a veteran. So, he could still sober up and take ownership of his career and potential.

With Ball on the team, while D'Lo could have played off the ball, there is a redundancy between the two. Also, Russell isn't a strong enough defender (think Klay and Curry. Both great shooters, but Klay is an elite defensive talent) to justify having the two on the court simultaneously unless they happened to have amazing offensive chemistry.

His stats were generally good for a player only two years out of college. But he seemed to play below his talent level, which obviously frustrated management.

It's not like he just brought this up to dump on DLo. Him and Pelinka have talked about the type of players they want on this team non-stop (some may even say ad nauseaum but I'm also a stickler for organizational culture) so this falls right in line with that. Also, it looks a lot worse in text than when listened to, it wasn't with malice imo

My only gripe is that I wish there was a bit more regret expressed on the subject.

He's still a kid and while I'm perfectly fine with the move from a cost of doing business standpoint to clean up the mess Mitch & Jim made of our cap, I think "cost" is the operational term there because we absolutely lost a talented player with rather significant potential.

The real issue here was that his value was effectively zero and NJ did us a solid by taking him and Mozgov. Nobody on our roster has been coveted enough for anyone to offer much in return for them and the market for Moz was also zero.

Perhaps we sold low and could have/should have waited until the deadline after trying to rebuild his value, but I think we've got enough question marks on this team as it is and taking this deal now before NJ found another recipient of their willingness to absorb a trash contract if a young player came along while offering cap relief in return.

That said I wish they'd have given a more regretful spin on this. They've definitely explained that this was something they needed to do, but not enough from the standpoint of, hey, we wish we'd have been able to keep this kid and develop him further.

I'm still Team D Lo too. I had my concerns in the first half but he did quite a bit to alleviate those concerns in the second half, particularly when they made the positional change. I do think it's fair to question whether he'll be much more than a high usage player turning out inefficient numbers, but there's also a fair chance he takes this as a wake up call from a maturity standpoint and BK winds up with the steal of the summer.

Do you think that Magic's comments were so harsh because D'Lo's behavior was even worse behind the scenes than the press mentioned? That Magic and the whole staff was glad that the hand-ringing was over and just vented in an inappropriate way?

I mean it's not a big deal, but unless he was a full blown cancer I think it's best for everyone to send a 20 year old player away with a bit more positive reinforcement.

I'm certainly not demanding an amended statement or anything like that. I just would have preferred more of a well-wishing sentiment.

yup, i said it.

bring back the fun to OKS agendas. go IN!

i really don't care about neither of them to be honest, but Russell has proven zero and not showed much more than that so it's not like Lonzo has a big mountain to climb to match him.

regardless of whatever stats Russell puts up because isn't that the fucking point of a point guard? to fit in, lead when necessary and make your teammates better...at least that's what i thought. D.Lo did none of that so it's a pretty low hurdle for Lonzo.
