but something folks should remember is that Griffin was rumored to go to Orlando several months ago, well before the Cavs lost to the Warriors. I do think this is a huge move, but it appears Griffin was planning to bounce form Cleveland.

We headed for 30 wins if this keeps up. We can easily win 30 games next year without a lottery pick if this keeps up.

Bron has to be consulted on every organizational move from the janitor on up. The GM has to be able to work with Bron and this is a damn bad start. Does Dan think Bron has to stay in Cleveland? Bron can leave at any time without owing anyone shit.

also,

even if lebron wanted griffin to get an extension, that doesn't really mean anything about his plans to stay or not.

I'm reading the Return of the King book, and I think the relevant items are that
a. Griffin almost didn't take the job. they offered it to him and he turned it down. He's 100% serious about either having a plan w/ the owner where he feels like they're completely on the same page, or not taking a GM job at all where he's going to have to do stuff that he doesn't want to do.

Like, that's his actual perspective and he walks it.

2. remember LeBron campaigning for shabazz napier? just cuz he likes somebody doesn't mean it matters as far as where he plays. In LeBron's mind, I think he is already operating an NBA franchiese that exists wherever it is that he's currently playing. If he needs to cut or trade a team to get to the situation he wants to be in, he treats it just like any NBA GM does and moves on.

Somewhere between $8 to $12 million a year, with both sides trying to finalize how many years. Now there's talk that he wants to test the market.

I certainly understand, because there are a lot of teams that want him and can pay him more than the Dubs. And this will be his last big contract. But I think there's still a pretty good chance he stays here. If nothing else, his agent is probably leaking this stuff to get Iggy a better deal with the Dubs.

has any credibility at all...

D'Angelo Russell's numbers as a 20 year old Point guard are better than every other point guard drafted in the last decade at the age of 20 years old....

so he's obviously done a lot you haven't seen if only Damian Lillard has better numbers as a 20 year old over the last decade

we were able to move D'Lo to go in a different direction..

the Sixers been trying to move Okafor for 1 1/2 years and haven't been able to

You guys will love him. I went into this season being very meh on him but this trade is a big blow to the Nets building culture and locker room (if ture).

I get why teams would trade for Brook. but I dont get why the Lakers would trade for Brook.

Only thing I can think of is PG wants more experience around him

Ball
Clarkson (meh)
BI
George
Brook

Not sure how those pieces fully fit

Now we've got Clarkson, Randle, #27, #28 all in play for PG.

I really don't think they'd trade #2 or BI but hell I didnt think they'd trade DLo either.

Brook
Randle
George
BI
Ball

Seems MORE likely to me even if Brandon is more of a 3.

what will be interesting is that if Ingram develops in the way most think he will defensively.... he could guard point guards much like Scottie Pippen ..

That said I'd rather not have had to make that sacrifice to undo a huge blunder like Moz.

I'm still relatively bullish on Russell long term, but he's got years of maturing to do. You guys don't really do (or need to do, in all likelihood) patience. The cap space is looking awfully critical for next summer.

And it's great for the Nets, obviously. Russell is exactly the type of dude they should be taking a shot on, and they don care about the cap.

If they were balking on D-Lo and the 28th (which was the rumor), then they clearly wanted *more* assets for George. Two first rounders in a deep draft with two young pieces would potentially get it done.

Lonzo likely going to LA = either forward at 3 or trade down for someone who wants to leap Phoenix. at worst, LA doesn't suck as much (but really?) so the Cs get the 2019 Kings pick. At best, Lopez's injuries return and LA's as bad as this year's version.

but man, the Nets just basically promised the Cs a top 4 pick next year in a draft that's supposed to be 5 deep.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

What would be left to package with BI for Butler?

Would OKC take BI + 2 for Westbrook? Would NO bite on that for Davis?

who could we get for BI that's young and on a deal with at least two years left and signed prior to the current CBA?

May as well get this party started early.

We've been over this.

The reason BI is "untouchable" is because the list of players we'd actually take back for him is short. In the past I've sarcastically mentioned Davis as the sort of player we'd take in return, because nobody is trading Davis for an unproven BI. If you're off the market for everyone except players that are too good and well established to be a probable trade, you're effectively untouchable.

but BI and this #2? It's worth asking around for players like that.

If you think BI's a non-starter on this team if Westbrook is available- which is possible if he doesn't sign an extension- you're delusional.

And yeah, if Westbrook doesn't sign an extension and becomes available, Magic is insane if he doesn't look at BI & Ball and say "ship his ass out" to both for that return.

Also, if Brawn & PG is the endgame... where does BI fit into that rotation, even with position-less ball?

My guess is BI is gone at that point.

yet, SOMEHOW, ingram not going anywhere.

so, yeah, we been over IMPOSSIBLE SHIT like AD, BRON, KD, GIANNIS, so all that "high price" shit you talkin is nonsense. they have as high opinion of BI as I have a low opinion of Randle and D-Lo.

So you're saying the Lakers wouldn't trade BI for those guys?

Didn't I just say that nobody is trading those kinds guys for an unproven BI?

If the price the Lakers would accept is impossible from other teams, a high price isn't "nonsense". It's amusing that you can't just accept that there IS A PRICE at which they would let him go.

It's also amusing that you ignored the obvious conundrum of having BI around if we had both George and Brash. If that happens there's a good chance BI gets shipped to fill gaps at other positions.

OF COURSE they would. but they'd never get offered. indy has ALREADY offered george and the lakers said no, so that's how much magic, rob and kobe value him.

Ingram can be the centerpiece of a trade for somebody like butler, but you'll need more. Butler is the level you hope Ingram attains. I'd imagine it would need to be Ingram, the 2, Clarkson, and maybe a second rounder or 2.

We saw him as his apex but that team couldn't have done more and no real stars were trying to play with him. Then he had a backiotomy and had 2 teams full of pieces made for him and he couldn't do shit with it. It's not really an Oden/Walton/Sabrina situation. Dude just couldn't get it done.

And now he's a Charlotte Hornet hahah

Close to 13 years in the league with freakish athletic ability and he still never developed an offensive game? That's pretty sad.

I don't even know what the best case scenario for him is right now. Maybe wait out the final two years of his deal and sign for a super discount to go ring-chasing?

Honestly if he's chasing rings, his best bet is a team like the Warriors where he can play a rich mans Javale McGee role. I mean, Kobes pitch to him was to be Tyson Chandler - and he wasn't wrong. Dwights game has little value in today's NBA. He's a HOF'r, but it's crazy how fast he became antiquated.

I think his offense was fine during the Magic years...before the back injury. He carried some suckas to the Finals. I just think the injury robbed him of a ton of athleticism...and he was still good after that. Do we feel like he was ever gonna have Kevin McHale-like offensive moves?

All the family drama he had been running from since he graduated high school, including lawsuits, were still there with no hometown slack given to his shortcomings and shitty leadership. When word got out that a few weeks ago that he was "working on his jumper", the local media and fan base all crowned hard and that may have been that.

But there are newer reports circulating that Butler has cooled on the Cavs because players on the Cavs (Bronr? Kyrie?) told him not to force the Bulls to make that jump. It's obvious Bron is not happy with their GM getting clipped....He's looking at the front door.....

For better or for worse, it doesn't appear as if James Dolan cares too deeply about Phil's current situation with the Knicks. He said numerous times he's willing to let Phil ride his contract out.

He's trying to get #4 and Booker for him.

I'm positive we'd be able to get him for #2 and BI. Part of me wants to say jump on that. Part of me thinks that's a bit too much.

I will say I won't trip if they pulled the trigger on it. I'd be ok with either scenario, but I also think we're going to blow this pick with Ball.

Also, I doubt Moonface is in a position to be "gangster as fuck" with Phil on this.

From what I've read he's shopping but has a firm price. Phil seems motivated, but not desperate.

I'm hoping his status as a pantheon-level Laker deity plays in our favor and against Moonface.

Phil wants Jackson (supposedly). Lakers aren't taking Jackson. #3 is the target. Cs have lots of assets but also could just take Tatum and be perfectly happy (or Jackson for themselves/for another team). Cs don't need to go for Zingis. But they can swoop in if the price isn't too bad and they can fuck over any Phoenix trade if they so choose as well.

lol @ a lakers fan--the #1 fan base bitching about Ainge getting preferential treatment by a fellow former Celtic--hoping Phil gives preferential treatment to LA.

Phil is motivated to get Jackson, but he's not desperate for him.

You said Moonface "could be gangster as fuck and say he's taking Jackson unless Phil's ok with #3 and *insert whoever makes the most cap sense to be able to sign a max FA but I don't know who because this ish is too fucking confusing"

Moonface has assets, but he's not in a position to deal in the shrewd scenario you gave.

You're overestimating Moony's assets as they relate to Phil's eagerness and asking price for Jackson.

>Phil wants Jackson (supposedly). Lakers aren't taking
>Jackson. #3 is the target. Cs have lots of assets but also
>could just take Tatum and be perfectly happy (or Jackson for
>themselves/for another team). Cs don't need to go for Zingis.
>But they can swoop in if the price isn't too bad and they can
>fuck over any Phoenix trade if they so choose as well.

And Phil doesn't need to trade for Jackson.

He wants Jackson and every report out is that the asking price is high and firm: A top 4-5 pick in this draft and a recent pick in that range. So #3 plus whatever fits the cap requirement isn't going to get it it done. Further, I don't think Brown fits the bill there despite being in that range.

The point isn't that Mooney doesn't have enough to get something done, but that he's not doing what you suggested.

>lol @ a lakers fan--the #1 fan base bitching about Ainge
>getting preferential treatment by a fellow former
>Celtic--hoping Phil gives preferential treatment to LA.

Uh..why do you think I said it?

loL@ a bahston fan laughing at a Lakers fan for hoping the Lakers get the same kind of sweetheart hookup Mooney had for KG. Is what's good for the goose good only for the goose or what?

If Phil really wants Jackson, Ainge is in prime position to get good value.

If Phil doesn't want Jackson that much, Ainge isn't sweating it.

The leverage is all in Ainge's position, basically. and Ainge can/should be patient and force Phil's hand. ffs.

and if Ball falls to 3, Ainge probably has trades lined up to consider in that scenario.

The only Trump card to Ainge's position is LA offering a sweet deal. But then if they do, LA can't get George too this season and Boston has y'alls #1 if it's between 2 and 5 next year and KP and Lopez in the west = still a really good chance that pick is boston's.

Are you capable of having a discussion where someone doesn't see it your way without running to this fuckery, or is that too difficult?

>The leverage is all in Ainge's position, basically. and Ainge
>can/should be patient and force Phil's hand. ffs.

Neither has any leverage over the other unless/until someone becomes desperate to get the guy the other is offering.

>The only Trump card to Ainge's position is LA offering a sweet
>deal.

So who's the player in Mooney's position who fits Phil's asking price?
#3 is the given, but who's the player who meets the asking price?

In both expressing my reaction and its content.

Ainge is in prime position to manipulate any deal assuming Phil does really want Jackson as the centerpiece of a trade.

Smart, Rozier, Brown, Bradley, and Crowder and the 3 and a future pick. Whatever combo of those Ainge wants to offer, he can disrupt any LA trade offer and block any Phoenix offer by threatening to take Jackson at three.

It's cool if there's, like, some legal requirement that you need to throw shit like that into your replies or whatever.

>Ainge is in prime position to manipulate any deal assuming
>Phil does really want Jackson as the centerpiece of a trade.

And I'm saying Phil's asking price is pretty specific.

>Smart, Rozier, Brown, Bradley, and Crowder and the 3 and a
>future pick. Whatever combo of those Ainge wants to offer, he
>can disrupt any LA trade offer and block any Phoenix offer by
>threatening to take Jackson at three.

If that's who Mooney really wants, sure. It would be pretty stupid- and exceptionally petty- to take him just to throw a wrench into Phil's plans if he really wants someone else.

Phil would have to want Jackson and dump Zingis more than he wants his price met. The critical element is whether or not Phil is willing to budge on his asking price, and if Mooney has anyone currently on the roster who fits the bill.

Are you going to continue to be an asshole for absolutely no good reason, or are you capable of accepting that we each see it differently while suppressing your need to add the unnecessary passive aggressive bullshit?

your high horse routine is terrible.

it would be stupid to take Jackson just to spite Phil. It would not be stupid to use leverage to try to get a little sweetener to drop to 4, still get the guy he wants, have to pay that guy less per year, and snag an extra 2nd rounder.

you can't be serious. my unnecessary passive aggressiveness? The entirety of it was four words. cry me a river.

What's so uncivil bout calling Ainge "Mooney"?

Is my joke about the fact that dude looks like a Dick Tracey villain an insult or personal attack on you?

Is he your cousin or something?

Can you articulate what's so offensive about this?

We can poke fun at MJ's jaundice eyes by calling him Cheese Eyes but somehow the cartoonish features Ainge's face has developed in his older age is an insult to you personally?

Yes, cry me a river indeed. Once again you're so much more offended than I am.

Please, tell me more. I'm amused.

If they wanted the most for him, they should have traded him last season. I'm not sure he gets them a top 10 pick right now. And if so, I'm not sure a top 10 pick makes them an immediate threat on its own. I imagine the Spurs are looking to make more moves regardless.

Former NBA player and current ESPN Jay Williams says he was told by a draft pick expected to be selected in the top 15 of Thursday's draft that New York Knicks president was falling in and out of sleep during his workout.

Williams made the claim during Thursday's Outside the Lines on ESPN.

“A top-15 draft pick told me the other day — because we were involved in this conversation about Phil Jackson and the Knicks — he said Phil Jackson was falling in and out of sleep during my workout,” Williams said “Yes. ‘Falling in and out of sleep at my workout.’ This is what this guy told me.”

The Knicks have the No. 8 pick in the draft and Jackson admitted that teams have called him about the availability of forward Kristaps Porzingis, telling MSG Live "We're listening but we're not intrigued yet at this level.

"As much as we love this guy, we have to do what's best for the club," Jackson added.

The Knicks have missed the playoffs in each of the last four years and have one playoff series victory since the turn of the century.

I guess in the best case scenario, it's the #1 overall pick and whatever player(s) Ainge has to unload to get that second lottery pick eventually turns into Porzingis. Then, best case scenario, Celts still sign Hayward.

I guess a team with IT, Zingis, Hayward, Horford, and whatever's left over can challenge the Cavs in the ECF. But I'm not sure the smarter play wasn't just to draft Fultz, then sign Hayward, and call it a day.

Well, it's not Bulter or George, but it is a two-way wing player that still has some upside.

They need two way dudes who can stay on the floor against y'all and d up Durant. Green's perfect.

and he won't be lost out there on defense like Korver was in the Finals. Plus, it sounds like RJ is doneski.

In response to Reply # 208

I think people got gassed off his early 2013 Finals run and just assume he's some great 2 way player. He's not. He's a very good defender, but extremely unreliable on offense. He doesn't do a good job of creating his own shot and often relies on spot up 3pt shots when he's wide open - which he doesn't make at a high rate.

He has the occasional big game, but is mostly M.I.A. on offense. I'm not sure what yall are watching to think he's a great offensive player.

so, I mispoke by saying shoot at a high clip, but he can still hit open threes and is not lost on defense like Korver was. That's all. Not saying he would come in and be the #2 option or some shit. I just think he'd be a decent dude to put around Lebron that you wouldn't have to keep out of the game against a team like the Warriors. Relax, yall.

else I'm supposed to process those comments. I like Green and will wish him well if he leaves SAS, but I don't think you and BShelly are giving an apt description of him. He averaged less than 7 ppg against Memphis and was MIA against GS when he was needed most. Simmons, Dejounte Murray and Kyle Anderson - 2 rookies and a bench guy - all out scored Green in the GS series.

He'll give any team great perimeter defense and veteran leadership/experience. I just wouldn't expect much offense though. Like I said, not good at creating his own shot and doesn't have good handles you expect in a SG.

Based on what PJ was asking for (with Boston, he wanted at least both Brooklyn picks plus Brown), he never had any intention of dealing him - just a message. Ainge said as much this morning.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Significantly less- and less interesting or titillating- material for print and podcast mediums.

The entire off-season is at least 50% pass interesting without hullabaloo.

Also, I don't buy the notion that it was just a message. He was never dealing from a position of desperation and thus there was nothing to force his hand and he could set his price under take it or leave it terms.

The reaction to any proposal rumor that doesn't come to fruition is always the same, that it was either never serious or not real at all.

Problem is, that would mean that the only real or serious offers or proposals are the ones that actually go through
