but when's the last time a player averaged a triple double in the finals? When's the next time a player will even average a trip-dub in the finals? Let alone with *that* kind of efficiency from the filed and 3-point line?

Answer: Never.

Appreciate.

Like, hypothetically, 35,8,8 is better than 20, 10, and 10.

Lebron was phenomenal this year. Kevin Durant averaged 35 ppg on 55% shooting and won. "Not a triple double though!"

Sure - except Lebron didn't average 20ppg - he averaged 33+ppg which basically neutralized KD's ppg output.

KD had a truly great NBA finals - just not quite as good as Bron's which ranks among the best all-time. There's no sense in trying to underplay how significant his performance was - you'll never see it again (and you haven't seen it before).

Yeah, I'm just saying we can't write off something as being a contender here just because it wasn't a triple double. Lebron was phenomenal this year.

I voted for Shaq though.

Zeke on the bad ankle just exploding on the Lakers in a third quarter. Magic in Game 6 of the '80 Finals, obviously! Bill Russell's Game 7s in '62 (30 and 40!!!!) and '60 (22/35!) as well as Clyde's in '70. If we are talking losing efforts about Jerry fucking West? Sick ass triple double in Game 7, incredible series. Hakeem in '95 is a series that gets overlooked, incredible performance, IMO as good as any of Shaq's Finals and possibly better. Shaq was one of the best players in the history of the Finals, Russell was probably the best.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Bron will go down as the better player, but you can't convince me he'd have won a chip with those supporting casts.

I mean Duncan's '03 postseason run was legendary. In the finals he played 260 mins in 6 games averaging 24/17/5+ assist/5+ blocks. The next closest guy played 50 minutes less thru the series. The 2nd leading scorer was a young, wreckless Tony who averaged 14 ppg on 38% shooting. Bron fans cry about him not having help, lol. And his run thru the Lakers/West was just as brilliant.

But back to question at hand(c), Jordan's 93 and Shaq's 2000-2002 run were among the most dominating I've ever witnessed. Tough to argue with those. Forced to pick, I'll give Jordan's domination of the Suns in '93 the nod.

in the poll --
jordan '93: 29.6
magic '87: 28.3
shaq '00: 30.6
lebron '17: 29.6

some others that have been mentioned --

durant '17: 30.3
wade '06: 25.4
duncan '03: 24.1

dream '95: 24.5
jordan '91: 29.4
lebron '15: 24.6

...

(Game Score; the formula is PTS + 0.4 * FG - 0.7 * FGA - 0.4*(FTA - FT) + 0.7 * ORB + 0.3 * DRB + STL + 0.7 * AST + 0.7 * BLK - 0.4 * PF - TOV. Game Score was created by John Hollinger to give a rough measure of a player's productivity for a single game. The scale is similar to that of points scored, 40 is an outstanding performance, 10 is an average performance, etc.)

It came up the other day when i was talking with a friend about best players I've seen in my lifetime, and Shaq in his peak is up there with anyone.

his finals performances were bananas because the matchups were so lopsided but he doesn't make it out of the west without kobe.

In response to Reply # 50

where was all this great ball denial and doubling? the pistons being way more athletic than the lakers and kobe's hero-balling were LA's undoing, not some grand defense by those two. they couldn't handle the diesel, as proven in many head-to-head meetings.

In response to Reply # 52

He finished with 91, for a 40% drop in productivity in the Finals.

considering he outrebounded Yao, Duncan, and KG to get those 76 - and that there were many Thor hammers to corral - i would say they did a wonderful job of keeping the ball out of Shaq's hands.

out of the six games he had that monster game 6 and one other great game. he also had a quadruple double--points, rebounds, assists and turnovers--and like three kinda unremarkable but solid games. he hit the boards hard in that series.

In response to Reply # 35

a guy could have 7 great games ..win or lose...you remember it but it doesn't change much from one year to the next....

Magic's finals performance in Philly w/o the league MVP on the road against Dr. J and Philly....as a Rookie....

that was the last NBA finals game that was shown on tape delay nationally....

it literally put the NBA finals on National television LIVE from then on...

I mean that's a lot for a rookie to do in any sport
