Pels announced that Gentry and Demps are coming back
May 16th 2017
11
      This make so much sense
May 16th 2017
12
Demps has a whole bunch of nothing to work with.
May 16th 2017
14
           CP3 or bust.
May 16th 2017
51
                They can't afford CP3.
May 16th 2017
71
Hes gotta decide if he wants more money or a shot at a ring.
May 16th 2017
100
"Shot at a ring" =/= The New Orleans Pelicans.
May 16th 2017
101
better future with the Pelicans than with the Clippers
May 17th 2017

May 16th 2017
15
Let's say you get the third pick. Who do you want?
May 16th 2017
16
      Whoever Indy wants for PG.
May 16th 2017
19
      No.
May 16th 2017
20
Cause they're gonna move him before then.
May 16th 2017
21
Eh. Would we get his bird rights in the deal?
May 16th 2017
           I believe so.
May 16th 2017
25
Depends on what you mean by overpay.
May 16th 2017
57
I wouldn't. I do think the #28 is in play to offload a contract
May 16th 2017
61
Doubt you'd cut much offering just #28
May 16th 2017
77
In a deep draft, it's possible. But I don't think it would only be #28
May 16th 2017
82
           .
May 16th 2017

May 16th 2017

May 16th 2017

if you wait for PG...you still have to trade someone....
May 16th 2017
56
Lol what? No you don't have to
May 16th 2017
58
so you wait a year.....sign PG....
May 16th 2017
72
Last time I checked, rotations aren't limited to only 5 players
May 16th 2017
74
and you don't draft 19 year olds in the lottery
May 16th 2017
92
You sign Paul George, trade Ingram for a big man
May 16th 2017
76
What veteran big is worth Ingram?
May 16th 2017
84
You can't think of a single big man in the league?
May 16th 2017
85
None that would realistically get dealt.
May 16th 2017
87
I think there's a disconnect between the two thoughts
May 16th 2017
89
2 is pretty much the issue though.
May 16th 2017
91
Right - there's no possible trade for any of the bigs I would trade him ...
May 16th 2017
96
This is the opposite of your initial response.
May 17th 2017
102
The first part was clearly rhetorical because the second part is true.
May 17th 2017
108
Fair, i honestly assumed you meant actually attainable bigs
May 17th 2017
111
I think I see the issue. My hypothetical was for NEXT offseason
May 17th 2017
112
                                    Anthony Davis.
May 16th 2017
90
Lol, I know you know what I meant
May 16th 2017
97
I was emphasizing that point fam
May 17th 2017
106
From the players I have seen enough to comment on:
May 16th 2017
22
They're the same position as Ingram though.
May 16th 2017
24
The Fultz, Fox, & Monk sweepstakes!
May 16th 2017
17
Even if we don't move up, can still grab Monk or Isaac
May 16th 2017
26
I have a feeling the Knicks are going to get the #1 pick
May 16th 2017
27

May 16th 2017
36

May 16th 2017
49
I'd think it's Ingram or bust for Indiana.
May 16th 2017
60
although I believe the Lakers have some leverage
May 16th 2017
93
Indiana can trade him anywhere though.
May 16th 2017

May 16th 2017

Ingram is a non-starter in any trade discussion
May 16th 2017

Y'all crazy as hell I'd trade Ingram for PG in a heartbeat
May 16th 2017

May 16th 2017
45
Does he come off the bench?
May 16th 2017
54
You start them both. Bradley comes off the bench.
May 16th 2017
59
Yeh. Bradley (and possibly IT) is gone after next season
May 16th 2017
66
I don't see IT going anywhere but AB is probably good as gone
May 16th 2017
94
An IT-Fultz backcourt would get destroyed defensively.
May 16th 2017
98
Let's all guess how many times ThaTruth has seen Fultz play.
May 17th 2017
105

I hope Dolan is paying Frazier with a plush paycheck to make him sit in for the complete disaster that is the New York Knicks. Bad enough he has to call the games professionally for the Knicks.

Also, does this assignment from the Kings and Pelicans mean that Gentry and Joerger aren't getting canned?

Demps landed a marquee player which brought buzz to the team. Pels also want to have more stability around DeMarcus instead of him having yet another head coach.

^^^Pels might actually DO something now. And literally, a good offseason and that team could be legit scary next year.

And in the spirit of O_E...they need to let the Black coach work some magic for a change now that he has more than 1 weapon at his disposal. If Demps works out a good offseason, Gentry will have the tools for a playoff run.

Pelicans keep their pick if it's top 3 but odds are it'll be going to the Kings.

Pelicans guaranteed deals:

C: Boogie, Asik, Ajinca
PF: AD, Cheick Diallo
SF: Solomon Hill, Quincy Pondexter
SG: E'Twuan Moore
PG: Tim Frazier, Jordan Crawford

That's 86 million so they have 22 million to spend (if they renounce all of their FAs, including Jrue.) If they lose Jrue, they'll need to find another starting PG unless they just want to roll with Frazier.

Tim Frazier might have the most trade value of anyone besides AD and Boogie.

Chris would have to turn down a shitload of money (assuming the Clippers are offering it, as they claim they are) to leave and sign anywhere, especially NO.

I wonder where all dude's optimism is coming from to give that type of response. I mean, weren't the Pelicans supposed to be a wrap for the 7th or 8th spot when that Cousins move was made? They didn't make a push for the playoffs, yet they are supposed to be scary next year? In the West? Who are they supposed to scare in the West next year?

If the Sixers get the Lakers pick, I expect at least five major articles praising Sam.

It is pretty amazing that, after Hinkie drafts three guys who sit out their rookie year, the first pick in the Colangelo Era ends up missing his rookie season.

After the Lakers, I feel like the Suns and Bucks have to be rooting for this pick to stay with the Lakers.

Then again, I kind of can't wait for the Sixers to deal both picks for Jimmy Butler or something in a Win Now move by Colangelo.

Obviously to draft a top end player but even more so to end all this tanking nonsense. If we don't get the pick, we've already been fortunate the last 2 years so you can't keep on counting on a lottery to save you.

"Eh. Would we get his bird rights in the deal?"

I’m willing to pay for George, though only so much.

If we do get his Bird rights then I say it’s better to snag him now. If we can manage to clear up some space next summer, then we’d be in a position to sign someone to pair with him while retaining the ability to resign him if we have to go over the cap to do it. Otherwise it’s doubtful we’d be in a position to pay for a second guy.

If we could center a deal around, say, BI & JC, that would help because it might be enough to absorb George right today without adding more than a few mil to our budget.

So I wouldn’t mind going into this season with Fultz/Ball, George, DLo, Randle & Zubic. Assuming the kids develop, the addition of another all-star caliber player next would make for a nice squad.

But that does hinge on whether or not we’d get his bird rights in the deal.

"When a player is traded, his new team inherits his Bird rights. For example, if a player signs a three-year contract, plays two and a half seasons with that team, and is traded at the trade deadline in the third season, then his new team has full Bird rights following the third season."

The other queston is: Do you overpay for PG now so you can ship Mozgov or Deng in the deal? If Indy if shifting gears towards the tank, they might be amenable to eating a contract for young talent.

If we can get away with something like Moz/BI/Nance/#28, I do it in a heartbeat.

If they want BI *and* Dlo? That's pretty hard sell for me personally.

More than likely Mosgov with Zubac's emergence. If you can clear that space, we now have the ability to add PG next summer + another piece, and you back-channel that info to him.

You roll with Ball, D-Lo, Paul George, Randle, and a veteran big man you get for Ingram.

A cost controlled asset whose play after the AS break was night and day. Then you add in the fact that we already have an emerging big in Zubac.

I honestly wonder how much you or any non-Laker fan in general saw Ingram or Zu play in the final 1/3 of the season. That deal makes zero sense. Cmon lol

That you'd trade Ingram for?

Also, the Lakers might need another veteran to lure George. Is he going to want to spend the last years of his prime working with a team that won't be entering theirs until he's in his 30's? Especially if it looks like BI might push him to PF, where he didn't want to play in Indiana?

I mean, yeah, of course there are bigs out there you'd deal a young asset for, but none that a team would come off of for a young prospect and change.

2. Ingram isn't enough to fetch a worthy big man in a trade.

You've gone from 'What veteran big man is worth Ingram? Do you guys know how good he is?!' to 'Ingram can't get us the veteran big men we would want.'

If Ingram is as good as you think he is, he'll show promise next season and be a centerpiece for a potential blockbuster trade.

Either way, this is all off of my initial point which was simply that signing Paul George instead of trading him means you have assets at your disposal to land another top player.

No, that's precisely the point: if he winds up being that good in year two, you keep him. It makes no sense to trade him if he shows that sort of promise.

>Either way, this is all off of my initial point which was
>simply that signing Paul George instead of trading him means

Depends on what it takes to trade for him. As I said, the bird rights give us an advantage in bringing in a second free agent as we already have an established star to help lure someone. You obviously don't gut the roster for him but the addition of this pick absolutely makes guys more expendable.

If you can get a dude like Anthony Davis then of course I'm dealing Ingram, but within the context of realistic possibilities, there's no veteran big out there who is worth Ingram.

As far as your other point about showcasing Ingram and him becoming a center-piece...that's exactly why I wouldn't trade him; he has that ability and flashed it after the AS break when he began playing downhill without hesitation.

You look at a list of quality bigs and when you finally hit one worth giving up (on) BI to get, it's someone who would definitely cost a lot more than a yet-unproven 19 year old sophomore.

Josh Jackson or Tatum. Both fit into our system very well with Tatum being a little more tilted toward the offensive end but Jackson showed steady improvement in his jumper month over month. What I like about both guys, and why they would fit, is their willingness to pass and awareness on the floor.

I haven't seen enough of D'Aaron.

Tatum might be able to get some minutes as a stretch four but it seems like the Lakers would be committing to going small with those two.

Josh Jackson has a world of talent but I can't get over the fact that he seems like a knucklehead. Living in LA on a young team could be a rough combo.

Although if the Lakers get #3, I think Magic deals for the #2. I think he'd offer Nance or Clarkson to move up the spot. Go with D-Lo, Ball, and Ingram as the three headed monster for the future.

And if he gets another All-NBA team under his belt, whoever has him will be able to pay him significantly more than the Lakers will be able to offer.

Unless Pritchard is high on D-Lo and Randle, I'd think that someone would send him an offer that could beat that.

you're right...

but PG seems to be willing to make it clear where he wants to play.... so that would give another team pause on overpaying for a potential 1 season...

I could potentially see a third team getting involved in a deal...

Dude's going to get fired if shit doesn't turn around this year anyway so what does he have to lose?

Offer everyone not named Chriss, Booker, or Bledsoe for PG (and maybe Lance as well, if the Pacers are looking to move him off of a rebuilding team.)

That doesn't add any salary this offseason, leaving the Pacers at 69 million. Enough to make a run at a max guy and a bench player or two.

Suns roll out with Bledsoe, Booker, George, Mlllsap or Griffin, Chandler/Len.

the Lakers should easily be able to put a package together for the Pacers with what they get for DLo.... may even be able to get him without offering up Randle....

The report is that teams have expressed interest and are preparing offers.

We have no idea what those look like, but I highly doubt we'd get
a package that could also net Paul George.

We get a deal like what Soul Honky brought up, Sacto's #5 and a couple of expiring deals, then yeah, though we'd likely still have to throw in something else. But a deal like that is highly unlikely for Russel.

Obviously didn't want the C's to get the top pick (that deal was already imo arguably the worst deal of all time, now it is...thank you Billy King and Prokhorov) bc they have huge leverage now...but they were odds on favorites and we jumped up a slot while keeping the damn pick (and 2019's).

Knock that deal out early, you're now coming to Gordon Hayward with a max deal and:

IT/Fultz
Butler/Smart
Jaylen
Horford
Olynyk/Zizic

There's a hole in the middle that they still need to fill but they could deal Rozier, who has been looking solid for a solid enough big. My guess is that they also re-sign Olynyk. Part of me wouldn't mind grabbing Tyson Chandler from the Suns.

I mean, I really HOPE the Bulls get a better haul for Butler than that.

Well, IF they trade him.

Blog A Bull got them looking down at Phoenix and the '17 #4 pick.

the 1 overall is a reasonable starting point for jimmy butler. a 25 percent chance or less 1 year later isn't, not without a lot more.

The title of the thread was that the '18 pick would replace the '17 pick now that we got the #1. Getting #1 is the whole reason Ainge refused to deal the pick in the first place.

C's have Jae, Jaylen, AB, Smart, Rozier, Yabusuele to offer in a deal. I think Phoenix has the best odds of making a deal for the top star but the Celtics offer is right there.

EDIT: The deal that Blogabull threw out there was Bledsoe, #4 and filler. That would be an opening salvo for the Suns but they could throw in more prospects to make a deal work.

The Nets will spend money and get a little better but you're still looking at a top half of the lotto pick.

you know that nobody is trading the 2nd overall pick Lonzo Ball for PG... hasn't been brought up anywhere by anyone...

we're going to able to get PG likely for what we'll get from another team for DLo....and keep all the rest of our young guns..

what you're seeing here is the outcome of drafting guys that play different positions..... it accomplishes 2 things...you stand pat you have a starting 5 all from guys you've drafted over the last 3 years... or you can deal a piece of what you've drafted to gain a superstar that fits into that line up that you've built through the draft...

that's a process...

132. "Swipe: The Sixers Not-So-Great History In The Draft Lottery"
In response to Reply # 129
Wed May-17-17 12:37 PM by Cold Truth

You should keep that luck, Shells. Looks like you guys could use it just as badly, if not more so.

The Sixers not-so-great history in the NBA Draft Lottery

For every Allen Iverson, there’s a Shawn Bradley. And a Keith Van Horn. And a Larry Hughes. And an Evan Turner. And a Jahlil Okafor.

Over the last four seasons, the Philadelphia 76ers have become preoccupied with luck. Usually, it’s been bad luck. Tanking to win was a calculated risk by the Sam Hinkie-era Sixers, and despite Bryan Colangelo defiantly stating the Sixers would be a tanking team no more after he took over as general manager, the roster toward the end of this season — and particularly the starting lineups the last few games of the year — showed the Sixers were smart enough to know when losing really meant winning.

And yet, no matter the analytics, the NBA Draft Lottery boils down to luck. In 2014, the Sixers had the second-worst record in the league, but were unlucky in the lottery, falling to the third slot, relegated to taking Joel Embiid after missing out on his college teammate Andrew Wiggins and Duke standout Jabari Parker. In 2015, the Sixers were unlucky to not win the lottery, settling for third again — this time, deserved based on record — missing out on Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell before panicking and taking Jahlil Okafor, unsure what the future held for Nerlens Noel and uncertain if Embiid would ever see the floor.

Luck didn’t make the Sixers pick Okafor over Kristaps Porzingis, no, but a case can be made that luck, the bad kind, kept Embiid off the floor that season as well. And so the Sixers went tanking again, having one of the worst seasons in NBA history in 2015-16 and getting rewarded with the top pick in the draft, where they selected Ben Simmons.

As luck would have it (bad luck again), Simmons got hurt in training camp, Embiid got hurt during his eventual rookie season and even Okafor, who nobody seems to want on the team anymore, got hurt again too, missing the end of a season that could have been used to showcase his offensive skills to a team willing to make a trade.

Joel Embiid talks with Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins.

Luck stinks for the Sixers, even when it looks like things are working out. We ran through the odds the Sixers have in the 2017 NBA Draft Lottery, where the team can walk away with everything from No. 1 and No. 4 to just No. 6 and almost every possibility in between.
Will luck shine on the Sixers in the lottery again this year, and will that pick stay healthy for the first time in nearly half a decade? Even asking that question, let alone daring to answer it, illustrates how tumultuous the lottery has been for the Sixers the last few years, even with three top-3 picks.

What if the Sixers don’t get a top-3 pick? What if they don’t get a top-5 pick?

Ben Simmons didn't play a game in his NBA draft class rookie season.

History shows the Sixers often do better later in the first round than near the top. Now, that’s couched somewhat by the fact Simmons has yet to play, and Embiid has yet to play much, but in the 31 years of the NBA lottery, the Sixers have picked in the top-3 10 times. They’ve won the NBA championship zero times.

Since the NBA adopted the lottery system in 1986, the Sixers have been to the NBA Finals just once. They’ve been a part of the lottery 17 times, once via trade, and even then, when they nabbed the first pick in the draft (the pick was center Brad Daughtery) they traded it for…Roy Hinson.

The Sixers have had the top pick in the lottery two other years, taking Allen Iverson — a year they had the second-worst record but won the lottery — and last season, when they took Simmons.

The Sixers have picked second three times, jumping from No. 7 to No. 2 to take Shawn Bradley in 1993, leaping from No. 5 to No. 2 four years later to take Keith Van Horn, and skipping four spots, from No. 6 to No. 2, in 2010 to take Evan Turner.
(Please don’t get the second pick this year, Sixers. It’s clearly cursed.)

Evan Turner was taken No. 2 in 2010. He was a total bust.

Four times the Sixers have chosen third, including two of the last three years in taking Embiid and Okafor. The franchise took Charles Smith in 1988, jumping via lottery to the third slot after finishing in the sixth-worst position. Smith was traded for Hersey Hawkins and a 1989 first rounder. In 1995, the Sixers took Jerry Stackhouse third, jumping up one spot from the No. 4 position in the lottery.

Of the 17 times the Sixers have entered the lottery, seven times their pick has improved. Nine times their pick has stayed the same as their pre-lottery slot and once, three years ago, it got worse.

If the Sixers manage to get worse than fourth this year and still can pick up a player like Embiid, most fans would consider that a longterm win. And yet, in three seasons the dude has played 31 games, just 786 minutes. But hey, they flipped the 10th pick of Elfrid Payton that year to Orlando for the rights to Dario Saric and the pick they had previously given up in the debacle of the Andrew Bynum trade. Whoever the Sixers take with their own pick this year — or in the pick swap with the Kings — they can sort of add that to the 2014 haul of Embiid and Saric.

Andre Iguodala was the No. 9 pick in 2004.

There have been several occasions in which the Sixers ended up “winning” the lottery without actually winning it. In 2004 the Sixers stayed at No. 9 and took Andre Iguodala, who outside of Dwight Howard, who went first overall, was surely the best player in that draft. In 2013 the Sixers took Michael Carter-Williams with the 11th pick, turned him into the Rookie of the Year then shipped him out for what could finally manifest this season (or next) into this much ballyhooed Lakers pick. The Sixers also got Nerlens Noel that season — another big who fell a few spots because he was hurt — in a trade for Jrue Holiday, who thanks to his own injuries hasn’t been the same player he was in Philly.

Then there’s the 1998 draft, where the year after taking Van Horn (and two years after taking Iverson) the Sixers took Larry Hughes at No. 8 in what might be the worst draft decision of all time and, yes, that includes taking Shawn Bradley second overall instead of Penny Hardaway in 1993. Hughes was taken before Dirk Nowitzki and Paul Pierce.

Never forget. And please don’t make that kind of mistake again.

They have Avery, Jae, Jaylen, Smart, Rozier, and the Nets 2018 pick to deal now. And cap space.

I think Ainge's ideal offseason is: keep Fultz, sign Hayward, and make a deal for the rim protector/rebounder that they need.

from anyone.

*Googles Ben Simmons rookie stats, gets redirected to a page that says "see results for "interest in Jahlil Okafor".

*Googles the number of games Joel Embiid has played in his three years as a Sixer, sees that he's played less than a game for each minute he spent at the lottery yesterday*

Tell us more about how Embiid is better than anyone on the Lakers.

Then let us watch as you tell yourself that still matters even if he's sitting in a rehab clinic while you guys continue to ride that process all the way back to the lottery your damn selves.

of shape.

The next rumor was that they made a draft promise to Josh Jackson.

Then JJ canceled his workout with Boston, which doesn't seem particularly intriguing since Fultz seems like all but a lock.

Then the rumor was that he received a promise from "someone".

Now he has a second workout with the Lakers scheduled for today.

It's starting to seem like he's inched ahead of Zo similar to the way DLo inched ahead of Jah.

I do wonder if he'll be dealt though given he's a 3, though I can see us playing him as a giant 2.

In response to Reply # 159

Or, if they were dealing/sitting Randle, both Jackson and Ingram could work in a smallball scenario as a 3 and 4, respectively.

He would *definitely* help the defense right away, something Lonzo couldn't do. Lonzo's the better shooter, but both Lonzo and Jackson need to use different shooting mechanics at the next level imo, so either would be a project. Jackson's got some off-the-court concerns, but that's nothing new for LA players-- you draft him for what he'll do on the court, anyhow.

I think this would be a smart move for the Lakers. I've never bought the "Lonzo as #2" hype-- he's 6 or 7 on my board, personally, and it has nothing to do with his dad-- and I think dodging picking him there is a good move. If they want Lonzo, the Balls have made it clear they don't want to play somewhere other than LA, so take Jackson at #2 and see if they can hold someone like Phoenix or Sacramento against fire and say, "Hey, we'll deal with Jackson for Lonzo... and more." Worst case scenario, you end up with the better talent (imo). Best case scenario, you get a PG who can run the offense *and* additional assets to sweeten that deal.

The "bad workout" one specifically by Trudell who is the only reliable beat writer for the team (I'd argue he's one of the best in the nation - extremely level headed and nuanced) and the promise one by multiple individuals - then consider if there was a promise, it makes no sense for Fox's agent to have him workout yesterday nor for Jackson to workout in El Segundo. Additionally, it was also reported yesterday that Lonzo will be having a 2nd workout.

Here's what we all need to understand about the media - when a player is generally disliked (Lonzo and also DLo), the stories are going to be negative because that's what fits into the public's selective lens about that player and thus drives many more clicks. The NBA draft is a goldmine for driving traffic bc there are so many intentional red herrings - like Fran Fraschilla said, most things that come out in June regarding the draft are a smokescreen and should be treated as such.

In response to Reply # 161

I don't think anyone is trying to hide intentions here. At #2 they don't really have to play their cards close at all. Phoenix might want to keep their desires under wraps though, but LA has the pick of everyone but Fultz so if these are all smokescreens it's a wasted effort.

I just know I enjoy speculation. There's no fun in limiting discussion to only known quantities and since these particular rumors are absolutely plausible enough to be probable, they're worth pondering.

Far as media disliking Lonzo, I've listened to quite a bit over the last few weeks and if anything most of the LA heads I've heard are awfully close to homer status with him. Several of these guys even like his ridiculous egomaniac of a father and can't wait for more LaVarisms.

Frankly I don't see an anti-Zo bias at all from the LA media.

That said, I don't view these sorts of rumors the way I do, say, the Brawn to Lakers nonsense floating around. I think the JJ rumors are plausible and intriguing enough to warrant discussion. That, to me, is where speculation like this is fun to ponder, when there's a reasonable possibility of truth. We won't know anything for a fact until draft day but that's no reason to kill the fun of speculation until then.

Jackson would be the ideal guy for the Celtics...

it makes total sense...

I see this maybe being a turning point type of move for the sixers if they can pull it off....

it would save the completely bungled "process" ...and come out at the end with a decent young line up to grow with....finally..

Jackson to the Celtics could be big too

The rumor I'm hearing is this year's 3, next year's LAL pick, and the '19 SAC pick too. That's a lot - especially considering that LAL pick next year could be a potential top 3. And with Doncic, Porter, and Mo Bamba on board, next year's draft class looks even more top heavy with talent.

I guess there are a number of ways of looking at this. Sixers have made 'safe' picks over the past several years and it really hasn't netted them many building blocks. They need more high impact players like Embiid (though, hopefully better health) and Simmons (projecting here) to really turn the corner. If you're looking for that 3rd star, then there are too many question marks with everyone not named Fultz. JJ has freakish athleticism and high floor, but is not a good shooter. There are a lot of guys with major potential, but none that check all the boxes like Fultz presumably does. And will the Sixers be able to find a guy like that in free agency? Next year's draft? The answer is most likely no, so I guess it's worth the trade-off if you feel he's the perfect fit.

I mean, in the end, this is the reason Hinkie stockpiled so many draft picks.

Fultz would be great but they should over pay

as one of the most inept periods by any front office at any time in any sport...

go backwards and count how many lottery and first round picks the Sixers have had over recent years...

look at the 1s, 2s, & 3s on the Sixers roster right today.... when see how many lottery picks and first round picks they have and look at that list, it's truly amazing..it's like their front office was drafting players to play a sport other than NBA basketball....

and to think even with alllllll those picks...to finally get a guard....(or just a guy who isn't a power forward or center)... you STILL had to trade MORE future first round picks...

it's really amazing the level of ineptitude....

I'm obviously not saying that the Lakers front office did a great job during that same period....but even in our losses we're putting lineups out on the court with PGs, SG, and SFs that we have actually drafted and who have some upside...

that's kind of how it's supposed to work... hasn't equated into a playoff team yet....drafting this eras 19 year olds requires some patience..but still...we have a line up that offers upsides beyond playing Sergio Rodriguez and TJ McConnell at PG and trying to make Power Forwards into Small forwards....

the top 3 teams are seeded in the order of need based on the top 3 guys available...

Fultz to Philly is their optimal need.... Ball to the Lakers fits their need.... Jackson to Boston fits theirs...

If the Lakers still aren't all the way with Ball...trading down is still an option... but I think they're cool with Ball..

Watching the team move the ball around the horn led by Lonzo and DLo is going to be so dope. Passing and unselfishness is infectious man and leads to players being willing to sacrifice for the greater good. That's a huge catalyst for culture change and winning any team sport, let alone basketball.

Sixers see a huge need and use a stockpiled asset to get it. Celtics pick up another asset with which they can draft a player they really like or include it to sweeten the pot for an established star.

Hopefully this also means we are getting Lonzo

He had knock down shooters to pass to in UCLA. I don't know who he gets the ball to. He would have to score in LA and I do not see him being any kind of offensive force in the NBA. Hell the Celtics might end up with the #1 pick again next year if they draft Lonzo and trade D'angelo. The only thing he is gonna bring to the franchise is publicity which they don't need because they are the freaking Lakers.

those knockdown shooters didn't make the tournament the previous year. Simmons and Fultz both took tournament teams, and kept them home in March..Lonzo took a pretty bad team and completely changed the culture of UCLA basketball for 1 season....UCLA could end up with having 4 1st round picks in this draft(really hope we don't as I want Holiday and Anigbogu to come back but they haven't yet) ...but that type of turnaround was pretty amazing, and it was because of Ball...

very rarely do you have a guy in todays era that can come in and impact the game without scoring being their #1 option....very rare...

Ball does that

DLo: over 40% from on set jumpers off the ball.

BI: significant uptick in his perimeter shooting after the AS break

Randle: 37% from 3 after the AS break, on 2.1 attempts per game

Yes, we need more shooters but shooting is also dependent upon getting the ball into spots. Each of Lonzo's teammates were way above their expected contribution because he gets them the ball in their comfort zones and pushes for easy looks in transition. Then you add in his ability to move off the ball (by far the best weak-side cutter In the draft) and shoot on or off the ball (him and DLo will both be initiating and moving off ball, that's a staple of the offense Luke wants to run). He makes the game easier for everyone else through unselfishness, lifting up the entire team...it's a very rare find these days.

I don't think he is going to be a good NBA player. If Lakers draft him that means D'angelo is most likely gone. That leaves a starting lineup of him, Ingram, dent (if he is not traded) Randle and Larry Nance. That team will finish with one of the worst records in the league with the Celtics getting their lottery pick.

Why?

Deng won't start. Randle and Nance wont both start. Zubac probably starts at center. Got Clarkson off the bench at guard too. And apparently you've got them trading Russell for nobody that can crack the lineup?

The way I see it: Russell, Clarkson, Ingram, Randle, Zubac, Nance, and whoever they pick this year is a nice, young nucleus.

Based on what exactly?

Most reports are that they'd play them together since DLo seems to be better as an off guard.

... I think it'd be tough to argue against Ball having value in the right system as a smart distributor/playmaker, especially on a team where he doesn't have to score. I like him a lot better on a team like LA than on, say, Sacramento or Orlando. I have my questions about him as a prospect *worthy of the 2nd overall pick*, but I don't have too many questions about his fit with the LA Laker offense.

I'm sure we'd take some combo of #3, Laker's 2018, Zizic & Yabusele

I think they have enough cap to absorb his salary without bring back contracts and I think we's be willing to take on one moderate one since we'd be clearning most of Jimmy's contract off the books.

Hell, I think we should take it even if they want to send comparable salary back.

I don't care if the C's get Butler and figure out a way to get Drummond too lmao. We are gonna suck for 3-4 years while the 'super teams' scarp it out. And when they are tailing off, we'll have young stars hitting their stride so...lotto Bulls. Let's go!

the Cs only want to go after Butler if they can also sign a max contract as well (Blake or Hayward).

It'd be the #3 + Crowder or Bradley and maybe a throw-in. Not Zizic--need bodies at C too much (though they did just sign a dude from Europe--Daniel Theus).

Nope, that Laker's pick will need to be included. We talking Allstar, All-NBA two way player. I'd sh*t bricks if we didn't at least get both those.

is if they end up keeping one of the two picks they got for #1.

if they don't, why trade that pick to the 76ers?

so you can't get the LA pick and the #3. You *might* (but very unlikely because Danny's about keeping future picks in stock) be able to nab a different future first.

Ainge didn't want to give up BOTH picks for this year and next year. So he traded down to get another attractive pick.

Boston owns:
#3 this year
Lakers pick next year (likely lotto)
BK pick next year (likely lotto)

They coming up outta 2 of those for Jimmy and possibly Marcus Smart/AB depending on what the Bulls want to do and how close the C's get to netting Hayward (with a Jimmy trade they'll be short of the max for him and will need to cut some salary).
