"Mike Brown: Redemption"

Mike has a shot to get back to the finals and get some revenge on Bron and the Cavs and racism.

Kerr out indefinitely. **waits for Warriors fans to come in mad and tell me its not that bad and he'll be back for finals**

Hopefully he feels better though. This shit sounds pretty terrible

Last year was a perfect storm, and GSW were hobbled.
Apr 24th 2017
35
the year before CLE was super-hobbled, so...context, or no?
Apr 24th 2017
38
Totally agree. Both should be taken into account.

39
Cool, so Kerr had the best team ever last year, lost.

49
I agree. Let's judge his performance, not just the result.
Apr 25th 2017
51
Oh, so Brown can lose and still get as much credit as Kerr??
Apr 25th 2017
54
He should be able to. Context matters.
Apr 25th 2017
57
"Context" = a way to blame Brown this year, but not Kerr last year?
Apr 25th 2017
63
Wrong. I do blame Kerr. You're the inconsistent race-baiting troll.

Apr 25th 2017
56
I agree with everything here. Blatt didn't get a fair chance, though.
Apr 25th 2017
58
BLATT GOT THE JOB. Lue got the ASSISTANT JOB.

60
When they hired Blatt, how much of a reality
Apr 25th 2017
61
Yeah, apparently Blatt had no clue what he was doing.
Apr 25th 2017
62
Lue had never been a head coach at any level.
Apr 25th 2017
65
Neither had Kerr. Interesting that you didn't point that out.

Blatt never got a fair shot.
Apr 25th 2017

Apr 25th 2017

He was undercut by his team's best player before his tenure started.
Apr 25th 2017

Apr 26th 2017

Apr 25th 2017

They did that to the Golden Child Luke Walton

So, my conclusion was the he was over it, but that's obviously not the case.

I don't know how effective pot is for managing pain, but Kerr mentioned that it didn't help him at all and he doesn't seem to be the type of person into recreational drug use (at least at this point in his life) so he must have exhausted a lot of traditional treatment methods.

The second link unnerved me since it suggested that he's been in deep pain for years. You wonder if his health might compromise his coaching career. It would really be a shame since he's always wanted to coach and he's so talented as well.

It would be great if Brown could earn back some respect after his experiences in LA.

Surgery should always be the final resort especially when it comes to low back pain as it has a robust and high level of evidence when it comes to effective conservative treatment (specifically physical therapy)

but from the all of the evidence I've seen with people I've coached and worked with, back surgery rarely, if ever, seems "successful". There are tons of viable alternatives that often work extremely well at getting to the source of the pain, which often seems to originate up or downstream from where it hurts.

Basically other than conditions in which the individual is having central cord symptoms (meaning there is a disc rupture so large that it's actually pushing onto the center of the spinal cord, resulting in things like change in sensation and motor weakness and bowel/bladder changes) or in cases of trauma, conservative therapy is indicated time and time again over surgery. The other aspect of surgery that isn't treated well is the psychosomatic aspect with a tendency for pt's to fixate and "become their diagnosis" or thinking there's a passive "fix" for the problem which tends to lead to more chronic problems.

for some patients that means pain stays, but now they can feel their toes again

sometimes it means that pain stays, but a stability issue is fixed.

lumbar spinal surgeries are almost always about decompressing nerve roots, or restoring disc height, or correcting a deformity. structural changes dont always bring about an eradication of symptoms, especially when the symptom is "lower back pain"

lumbar spinal surgeries are absolutely more variable in outcome than cervical spinal surgeries, but to say they dont work is oversimplifying.

He sounds like so many chronic pain patients...had been in pain for awhile, went through the medical system and ended up with worse pain, and now is even more fixated on the pain (and naturally so) which increases sensitivity, pain extent, etc. In these cases, you have to address the psychosomatic and physical factors (the former more than the latter really...you can't move without pain if your brain feels that region of the body is threatened, it will send a pain response to stop movement and thus avoid danger)

You combine that with the physical and mental rigors of his job....it's a really tough environment for healing. I imagine we'll be seeing him retire much sooner rather than later.

surgery for "lower back pain" is aggressive, but if he had neurogenic symptoms in his lower extremities, or dangerous spondylosis/spondylolisthesis, conservative therapies have a very limited expectation of success

his problem is that in his first surgery, the doctor nicked the dura and didnt realize it. everything since then has been secondary to that.

In post 12, I'm speaking on how his prognosis is now heavily clouded by the chronicity of his pain particularly as he's displaying multiple characteristics of a chronic pain patient, which is very relevant regardless of his diagnosis (in the context of pain science, having a diagnosis can actually be detrimental to the pt's recovery bc they begin to identify with and be enslaved to said diagnosis, creating a state of hyper-vigilance yet learned helplessness. Such a shitty combo)

without examining them and looking at MRI's/x-rays etc. but he's a physical therapist giving a detailed prognosis about people he doesn't know anything about but because he uses a lot of words there are people here that think he actually knows what he's talking about. I'm glad people are starting to call him out lol.

As a lifelong athlete/active person, I've had a number and range of issues over the years. I live in NYC one of the supposed "best" places for doctors. There have been so many times Ive ask for recommendations, scoured through reviews to see a M.D. in various fields.

I've taken time off of work for appointments and had xrays and recently an MRI. Seriously, 90+% of the time an MD has told me to "take ibuprofen and take a couple weeks off."

A couple years ago, I got frustrated with that process and started exploring my options. I found that Chiropractors and DPTs were more in tune with modern research and generally looked to tackle root causes of the pain, like physiological or movement pattern issues that has helped 10 fold. In some cases this was provided with exercises. In other cases there was manual therapy, and in some cases correcting poor movement patterns. These things are generally not what Ortho MDs are trained to do.

If you look at the training staff of most professional teams these days there is a range of professionals and very often a DPT.They all work hand in hand as a compliment, but someones experience should not be discounted just because he is a "physical therapist" and not a MD

In response to Reply # 23

an orthopedist is there to assess your structural integrity. no one should expect him to be a professor of biomechanics or kinesiology

and im obliged to say this, but chiropractic therapy is only as good as how you feel afterwards. it doesn't address any pathology like nerve root disease or cord stenosis, and it definitely wont benefit organ systems, like its more extreme proponents claim.

I agree. Generally DPTs >>>> than chiropractors for me. But nowadays more chirps are dealing in different modalities and not just "back adjustments". Some of the work they do overlaps with what some dpts do depending on the doctor and practice.

To me I think your first point is important though. I mean at the end of the day people go to these practitioners because they want to feel better.

Best believe if the Warriors win the title without Kerr Coach Brown deserves credit. It's not easy to step in as head coach in the midst of a playoff run and lead a team to a title.

Black on black coaching violence, and it would fit in terms of getting a better defensive minded coach since Alvin Gentry is primarily an offensive minded dude, at least in theory.

I think the current dude for the Nets has only been on that job for one season and the roster is understandably terrible with a rack on injuries to Jeremy Lin, so I think his job is relatively safe.

And, should the Warriors get there, Kerr will be back for the Finals. Though even before this happened, speculation is he'll probably coach three more seasons at the most before he retires.

Kerr only beat a short-handed Cavs team two years ago.

Not sure why the standards should be different for another
guy.

And I'm almost certain he did play Verejao, and he played like shit, so he had to go back to Ezeli.

Look, I'm on record for saying that I was the most pissed at Ezeli after the Game 7 loss. Him fouling Bron while we were up 7 was absolutely the turning point of the game: I said as much in the game thread. But Bogut was hurt and Tristan Thompson was killing us we didn't have many options at center. So,ego es players just play poorly.

kerr already had a title and two COY awards behind him. he was also under contract. he wasn't coaching for a job. david blatt was and he got canned for a losing a series that was impossible to win. so? shit happens, coaching is a tough business.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Blatt is fine, but he was mostly in over his head in
the NBA, which is to be expected because he wasn't
really qualified for *that* job.

Ty Lue was a respected basketball guy for years. By
players and front office guys. He has every quality
you look for. He understands the game. He commands respect
from superstars. Has NBA champion pedigree. Played with
Shaq and Kobe. Earned his check as an NBA player. Likeable,
great story, great mind.

(interestingly, Ty Lue has many of the same things going
for him as Steve Kerr did; Kerr was vaulted DIRECTLY
into the front office after his career, while Lue was
languishing on NBA benches and ONLY GOT THE CHANCE to
coach because DOC RIVERS reached out)

That's the reason he was paid so much as an assistant.

But instead of HIRING the RESPECTED NBA basketball mind and
personality, you PAY HIM to babysit the unknown quantity.

That is textbook hiring discrimination. It's hollywood
sidekick/comic relief shit. Black people are always sidekicks.

LMAOOOO @ a black guy who coached in Europe and Israel and
shit with no cred in NBA getting hired, with an ELITE white
assistant coaching prospect being paid to coddle him.

Would never fucking happen.

And I have no problem with Blatt.

But Lue should have had that job first.

By *definition* Blatt got the "Fairer" shake and
was granted a benefit of the doubt that BLACK coaches,
even widely respected ones, like Lue don't get.

Hell, Lue PROBABLY isn't back as head coach if they don't
WIN last year.

He SHOULD have had that job BEFORE BLATT.

Read windhorst's book. You'll be startled by how much we didn't know about his amateurism. I'm not mad that the Cavs hired him. They tried an out of the box solution, and there's always risk with that. But it's crystal clear that, if anything, they waited too long to fire him.

was it that LeBron was going to join the team? I'm not saying Blatt wasn't a mistake, but I'm not sure if Blatt was hired with LeBron and immediate championships in mind.

His career as an assistant wasn't super long either. He was on the list of guys to get a shot but let's not talk about him like he was established. Overall the whole thing was in flux because when they put the staff together, there was no LeBron (and no Love and others, though that doesn't really matter). That meant they could have been looking at another whole new staff before the season started but the contracts were signed and obviously Lue was an up-and-comer. I wouldn't say he was hired to "babysit," more like a Plan B that worked out.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

according to Windhorst. Blatt was in over his head, it was a weird situation since he would've never been hired in the first place if they knew Lebron was coming back, but he was never really given a fair chance.

In response to Reply # 66

Everyone around here knew it when he got hired.

If indeed Kerr is back is so bad that he has to step down after the season is over, I can't imagine a reason why the org. wouldn't hire Brown to replace him.

Or, if there is indeed other coaching openings, Brown will slide into one of those. Oddly enough, thus far none of the lottery teams have so far fired their HC's (usually a few have been canned by now). I imagine as the play-offs continue, one of two of the play-off teams may have openings.

Only reason I could see Brown not leaving the Warriors next season is if none of the potentially vacant jobs appeal to him.

I've already seen rumors that Kerr may be back for this series. Unless the team is absolute disarray after a series of consecutive bad losses, Brown should get the opportunity to finish out the series.

Brown will be fine. If there's a coaching position open next season on any team, he'll be the #1 candidate if he wants it. Or he can wait and see if Kerr decides to step down due to health concerns and he'll have the job here.

You want to keep creating weird narratives that aren't based on reality, that's on you.

Nah, the weird narrative is that Brown is a "substitute

If you feel comfortable calling him a liar, that's on you.

I know that they run the same offense, use the same rotations, and run the same in-bound plays that they always have. Same as when Walton stepped in to coach. I know Kerr is there at every practice, every game, talks to the players during halftime, and works with the coaches on possible halftime adjustments.

If Kerr steps down permanently at the end of the season, he will install his own offense/rotation/plays/etc.

>
>Nah, the weird narrative is that Brown is a "substitute
>teacher"

The weird and wrong narrative is that Kerr is a cheer-leader and doesn't do much.

So if we're going to talk about who designed what, we can
have that conversation.

>If you feel comfortable calling him a liar, that's on you.
>
>I know that they run the same offense, use the same rotations,
>and run the same in-bound plays that they always have. Same as
>when Walton stepped in to coach. I know Kerr is there at every

Right, and Kerr "ran" an offense that was designed by
Alvin Gentry. And Mike Brown has supreme strategic input
on all aspects, and especially defense (which is really
what makes this team legendary; their ability to score that
way and *still* stop people)

So Kerr is really good at hiring people who are architects.

That is actually REALLY important for a coach.

But to call Mike Brown a "substitute teacher" is plainly
offensive.

>If Kerr steps down permanently at the end of the season, he
>will install his own offense/rotation/plays/etc.

>>Nah, the weird narrative is that Brown is a "substitute

>The weird and wrong narrative is that Kerr is a cheer-leader

Nah, but you didn't respond to the substitute teacher narrative.

You're mad at ME.

And that is telling. And proves my point.

But then he didn't? Okay. Again, if you're now saying Kerr didn't help create and implement that offense, you're making things up.

>Nah, but you didn't respond to the substitute teacher

Amritsar is his own man with his own opinions. He wants to respond to you, he can. But Walton and Brown are both following blueprints that Kerr was instrumental in creating. On both say/said so, repeatedly whenever asked.

>You're mad at ME.

And here you are, being weird and making things up again.

You came in here and started haranguing me for whatever odd reason. I don't initiate convo with you on this or most subjects because I honestly don't care what you have to say. Now, I just find it weird that you feel the need to create narratives that aren't based on reality.

Luke got offered a job because a whole bunch of teams fired their coaches in the off-season. By this team last year, he'd already agreed to be the Lakers head coach. This season, it at least appears that everyone is stick with who've they already got.

If someone does get fired, I'm sure Brown will be a #1 candidate anywhere and everywhere he wants. Or he waits to see if Kerr decides to hang 'em up during health concerns. Knowing how the Warriors organization works, I'd imagine the front office has told him that job is his if Kerr leaves.

As has been said, he's still getting paid by the Cavs right today, so it's very possible he's not tripping at all.

One can give credit to kerr's role in the culture and say brown's better with gameday x and o type stuff.

But, of course, then someone would have to acknowledge that black coaches can be good at the cerebral part of team management, which we apparently can never do.
