"Screamin' A. vs. LaVar Ball"

hilarious. Screamin was almost rendered speechless at times. I don't even think this dude Ball believes everything he's saying...he just decided to cook while he can.

I'm happy that the man has worked hard to raise three successful and well-adjusted kids. He deserves all the credit in the world for that.

But goddamn if his takes on nearly *everything* aren't insanely embarrassing.

the way McGregor and Mayweather sell fights by trolling.

It works. What other dad gets a spot with Screamin A.

There was an article that interviewed former WSU teamates and they said hes always like that though.

But what I "appreciate" about him if you see his interviews and dont just read text is hes a jovial shit talker. We all know dudes like that who just talk a gang of shit but are mostly just having fun.

For him it helps that he's 6'6 300+. I mean in real life who is really telling him to STFU?

It's been a good three or four years since I've bothered to listen to a podcast of any sort. What this podcast that you're referring to? I'll try to listen this weekend if I have the chance. Sounds somewhat insightful because Amin El Hassan appears to know something about basketball from what I seen on his twitter feed from time to time.

I listened to the Biggie podcast last weekend. The self censorship hurts the flow of the podcast a bit, but they are all Disney employees, so I understand. El Amin should host his own show on ESPN it seems since he appears to be a great host and has actual NBA knowledge; I think I've seen him only as a guest on two or so shows.

I wonder once his sons are officially in the league if LaVar will change his tune since all of them will be smaller fish in a bigger pond.

I suppose ultimately the product the sons display on the court will dictate how loud LaVar will be once the sons are all official NBA employees.

Hype your kids up and get them some publicity. There's nothing wrong with that at all. I hope his kids have all the success in the world.

But he doesn't need to sound like a clown in the process. And that's what he's doing. I don't think he's hurting his sons' chances or anything like that. He just comes off as someone that no one should ever take seriously. And that's too bad.

But I do wonder if there's a sizable portion of loud mouth parents out there that relate to LaVar Ball and want to rock that BBB gear as they stand on the sidelines and chew out everyone but their child during whatever middle school/high school team event goes down.

I would be surprised if LaVar Ball doesn't start a #BBBLoudMouth hash tag to mobilize all the crazies towards himself and his bank account.

I do think you actually have something here. We've had gear marketed towards athletes, coaches and fans, but never anything explicitly aimed at obnoxious parents who threaten to fistfight a coach because their 10 year old is on the bench in crunch time.

They could advertise that it specifically wicks away both sweat and the saliva flying out of your mouth while you yell "CALL AN ISO FOR BRAYDINN ALREADY YOU GODDAMN DISGRACE" at a guy working as a junior accountant who volunteers his weekends coaching your kid.

is all the one to one comparisons. it really doesn't matter or make sense to publicly state that his son is better than curry and then talk about a one on one game. nba is still a team sport the one on one talk is kinda pointless in this case.

he can clown all he wants, but at some point, folks may turn against his sons because of his loud mouth.

its cool to watch him clown and make folks mad.

What NBA player, active or retired, do they have to emulate in order for Lavar's campaign to be considered a success?

What numbers do they need to put up?

Lavar is cysing his own children anyway so might as well add more fuel to the fire.

Or the perception of the kids as players.

Even the active players he's thrown "shade" at (Curry and LeBron, for example) have said that they really like Lonzo Ball's game.

LeBron's mom acted weird back in the day, but that didn't even the perception of LeBron.

how she pretty much faded away to Bolivian. I haven't seen her on camera I think ever since LeBron went to Miami. Has she been on camera at all since LeBron got his rings? She has to have been around LeBron during those championship parades, right? Or does LeBron throw 3-4 mil at her annually to keep her silent and away from them cameras?

Then she REALLY faded into Bolivian after the "She's fucking Delonte West" rumors.

Last thing I heard is that she married some rapper that I've never heard of that only a little older than LeBron. Who he apparently gets along with.

So to answer your question, yes, I imagine she's at the parades in the background, but he probably encourages her to stay out of the spotlight.

a team mate, who is clearly the best player, has one of these type parents.

called his son over during half time and told him to take over the game. didn't give pointers on anything. just take over. he always went against whatever coach was saying.

in another game, that we lost, he totally blamed his kid for the lose. his boy did miss both free throws and we were down by one, but you can't pin the whole game on your 8 yr old like that. never once did I hear him say good game or any type of praise for his boy. his wife even complained to me about it at practice.

Is it possible LaVar could try that out on a college coaching staff, much less a professional NBA coaching staff?

The somewhat interesting thing is that whatever NBA teams the sons end up on will most likely be terrible, so I am curious if this dude will be a loudmouth if the teams the sons get drafted on don't win immediately.

I think it's happened to some degree at UCLA more than it would at any other big program.

Alford is in a catch 22 cause balls basically saved his ass.

Also I'm curious to see what lavar will say if and when UCLA bows out. I'm sure a lot of the blame will be placed on Alford and teamates. Let's hope it's not tonight

The other sons are slated to play there in the future, correct? I thought I read that somewhere. If so, I would hope LaVar wouldn't say too much to potentially burn that bridge and make things too contentious.

... because Gelo and Melo are not nearly as good as Lonzo is. And with the roster turnover they'll have this offseason? Yeah, he better hope they either make it far in the tourney or offer him the job at IU, because it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see those Fire Alford trucks back in Westwood Summer 2018 if they drop this weekend.

I didn't realize he was going that far, that's ridiculous. The boasting and bragging didn't bother me, but getting between the coach and the players is not cool at all.

LaVar is an interesting dude. Dude is a handful and I can see how it works ok when dealing w/a talent like Lonzo, who's probably a top 3 draft pick.

How does his act play if his younger kids wind up good, but not great? I could see them being decent starters in the Pac 12, and maybe even good starters, but what if 2nd team All Pac 12 is their ceiling? Maybe the LaVar stuff becomes more than a coach is willing to deal with.

Kids learn to shoot when they're young, not from their high school coach. The older you are, the harder it is to change your form.

Pops didn't do his job. His son out there looking like a clown, shooting from his abdomen. Pops fault.

There's been a couple of video analyses of him where it shows his form. The beginning is wack but his release point is actually pretty textbook once he brings it back acceoss-- which is why he's a decent shooter despite that horrible looking form

White parents been pushier and more evil since forever.

But to acknowledge that would require us being smart and
fair, which most of us aren't.

I mean,

Archie OPENLY prevented his son for playing for an NFL
team ON DRAFT DAY. Way, way, way more controlling and
problematic. No, that he was an NFL player doesn't change
that. Note that Archie didn't get NEARLY the bad coverage
of Kellen Winslow Sr and Winslow Sr was thousands of times
better an NFL player.

As for Richard Williams: honestly I've never forgiven
the white media for the way they treated him, and don't
plan on forgiving them now. He doesn't have anything to
do with Lavar, though.

Do you think the Kentucky kids cry like that after

And seriously -- how do you police how sad someone is

You can tell they seem to have a great relationship when the interview went into the serious topics. What I like most about Lonzo is that he's always calm and collected, and that carries over into his interviews...for whatever reason, the public tends to view matter of fact answers in a negative light, I personally love it.

They crazy talk and hype is fine, though maybe not suited to every sports fan's taste.

But the real telling part is how the money affects the dynamic. You find out who people really are when money gets involved. We've seen it work both ways with sports parents. Bernie Kosar's dad is a great example of a dude who was way too far into his kid's pockets. Marinovich was way to far into his kid's everything. Kevin Love had a 'problematic' father, but it's been smooth sailing in the NBA.

My main beef is LaVar has some weird facial ticks when he talks that are distracting as hell... but that's neither here nor there.

Black athletes ALWAYS have to play amidst distractions.

ALWAYS

Sheeeiit...not even athletes.

Think about a black co-worker. Odds are there
is tons of shit they are dealing with that they don't
talk about, ESPECIALLY if they are good at their job,
and even moreso if that job isn't one frequented by
black folks

But white people think Lonzo had a bad game cuz his
daddy talk shit?

LMAOOOOOO

What is WRONG with white people? (and their coon friends
of color)

I'm offended.

If they'd just stopped at "LaVar is a clown who needs to leave his kid's coaches the fuck alone," then they'd be good.

Instead, they act like he played any role in the tourney loss-- as if DeAaron Fox didn't get in Lonzo's ass the *first* time they played too, before LaVar did any major public interviews.

And anyone trying to talk shit about Lonzo declaring for the draft right after the game is ridiculous too-- yeah, most kids wait a day or two for formality's sake, but shit, he's said since day one he was one-and-done, what do people want him to do, lie?

but it's a bit odd that someone left their house with the intent to film this dude playing a pick-up basketball game. I'm not a fan of this guy running his mouth and all, but that's a bit strange to me. Perhaps I'm just someone that values their privacy too much though and I'm in the wrong.

LaVar Ball: UCLA Obviously Couldn't Have Won The Championship, They Have Too Many Slow White Boys

The nation’s preeminent Sports Dad is at it once again, folks. LaVar Ball’s latest comments are on son Lonzo’s trip to the Sweet Sixteen with UCLA and why the team couldn’t make it further, as reported by the Orange County Register:

“Realistically you can’t win no championship with three white guys because the foot speed is too slow. I told Lonzo - ‘One of these games you might need to go for 30 or 40 points.’ It turned out that was the one game. Then once they get to the Elite 8, they’re right there.”

Those three white guys would be TJ Leaf, Bryce Alford and Thomas Welsh, and Ball did not come particularly close to “30 or 40 points” in the Bruins’ elimination game. He scored 10.

In addition, his two younger sons have to play on UCLA as well, so I don't see why LaVar wanted to lay some racial napalm on that Cali bridge and potentially try to burn it when his sons will have to travel across it in the future.

who has to coach his next two boys. Funny thing is, he predicted like 50-11 times during the season and March Madness, that UCLA was gonna win it all. Them "white boys" didn't just get on the team, dawg. That loss to UK had less to do with foot speed and more to do with your boy rocking a long ass turkish rope with a "39" medallion around his neck, courtesy of Fox.

Like I pointed in another post. Alford either has to man up and be like "you cant talk to my family like that" even if you did keep my ass in Westwood another year...but he probably wont

Now that I think about it, a photoshop to make him look like Homie the Clown from In Living Color would be rather appropriate if this story is true.

His brothers, as HS players, definitely are not. You have to be LeBron level to be coveted like that as HS'er and really you have to be LeBron or at least Iverson level to be coveted like that as a draft choice. This dude isn't even gonna go No. 1 overall, what makes him think a big deal is in the works let alone one where they have to licensed some nut ass garbage conceived in a suburban garage?

Ball has fallen into the trap that many have thinking that many athletes have lucrative shoe deals. The fact of of the matter is that you could count the guys earning over a mil for a shoe deal each year in the NBA on your fingers, or least your fingers and toes. Of those guys, not many had them coming right out of the draft either. It's really a have and have-not deal. LeBron, Kobe, Durant, Steph, D Rose, I guess Harden now, maybe PG and Dame now ... that's about it in terms of guys with signature models and big contracts behind them. I imagine Li Ning pays D Wade good money, not so sure about Anta with Klay and Peak with Tony Parker. Guys get free stuff and a little cash but the money the Ball is talking about is insane. He thinks his kids are Jordan/LeBron/Kobe/AI type marketable *right today*. Lulz.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

he came to them with this condition. they told him they couldn't meet it. now it's his move. will he settle for a deal without that? then one or all of these companies might be amenable. if not he may have to borrow money and bet on his kids, start his own shoe brand. he knows that is way, way riskier from a personal standpoint and in terms of having success with the brand. so will he back down or he will go all in? we'll see. either way i don't see a super lucrative deal out of the game for lonzo.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

but I can definitely see why he would be focused on ownership instead of simple endorsement.

and I also see why the shoe companies wouldn't do that for him.

It's a relatively large risk, but if two of his kids are as good as he thinks they are, there's reward.

In response to Reply # 129

He basically treated those meetings like his own personal Shark Tank and tried to get them to invest in his $50 t-shirt company, instead of signing his son to a shoe deal.

Also, no company is going to want to piss off their current clients/set the precedent of funding an offshoot brand for all of their roster.

Honestly, I could see them all being out for good on Lonzo. There are other players out there and why invest in five years of someone if you know once the deal is over, the father will likely be back with the same demands.

137. "Is he lowering his demands?"
In response to Reply # 135

Anta is trying to establish their brand in the US; it wouldn't really make sense for them to partner with Ball for a separate brand. The Chinese brands might actually be less likely to partner with him.

If Ball is now lowering his demands, it's nice that he smartened up but you really have to question the management of a guy who ticked off the major shoe labels so he could go have his son sign with a Chinese company.

Kinda basic look (although the python microfiber might stand out more in person) but not too shabby! I laughed at the $495 price tag but if it's a limited run, people could spend money on them.
