He's been pretty reliably fun to watch since he entered the league, from the games I've seen him in.

Because statistically speaking OBJ is the best WR in NFL history*.

He's top 2 in catches, TD's & yards for every WR in NFL history with 3 or less seasons.

Explosiveness doesn't equate to being better at WR.

Jerry Rice wasn't nearly as explosive as most guys in the NFL's all-time receptions list, but he's definitely the best receiver.

I'll take size, agility & hands over speed any day.

OBJ killing Cooks.

9. "so Brandin Cooks is now the best receiver in the league?"
In response to Reply # 0

is this is where this is headed? is he going to lead the NFL in a major receiving category so he'll all of a sudden become the best next year?

Cooks is a good player going to a great fit. although New Orleans was that too. talent-wise, he lacks physical strength to shed tackles after the catch (which is why he's never been top ten in 20-yard receptions). he can struggle on 50/50 balls because he doesn't have a great catch radius. he lacks the size to be an elite red-zone threat. these are all skills that other top receivers do better than him.

coincidentally, Cooks' athleticism translates into a slightly faster Julian Edelman, who is a little slower version of Deion Branch. he's a huge get for New England because it lets Brady dominate the space between the hashes -- they have two killers they can put in the slot and no defense can spend extra resources against either. Cooks can play flanker as well, giving them a true pick-your-poison alignment with Gronk and White/Lewis out of the backfield. it's going to be hell on safeties and limit the coverage switches you can declare against Brady.

great trade, great addition for Brady, but he's not the best receiver in the NFL, or even top five.

Brees has never had a receiver in NO with more tham 1310 yards, and Jimmy Graham 2013 is this only receiver to ever catch more than 11 TDs.

if anything, Brees and Payton are starmakers. Colston, Graham, Lance Moore are all dudes who apparently needed Brees a lot more than he needed them.

I wouldnt be so sure Cooks doesn't join them.

*besides his rookie year

and moore as the third receiver kimd of makes my point. from 2008-2012 as the third reciever he averaged 65/826/8 per 16 games. how many other teams and QBs could get a WR3 that kind of production?

Its true Colston never played anywhere else, but Brees has NEVER played with someone who set their career receiving highs elsewhere, including Sproles and Bush.

Ill hold an L if it happens with Cooks, but it wont.

Cooks is the best receiver in the NFL? he's not, but you can get on record.

Cooks is going to have a good season? everyone seems to agree with that, but I wouldn't be surprised if his numbers don't jump significantly. his indoor/outdoor splits are pretty big, and he's losing those eight games in a dome.

T.Y. Hilton led the league in receiving last year, and he could do it again in 2017, but that doesn't make him best in the NFL either.

didn't watch cooks enough in NO to have a strong stance preference.

but if OBJ is the competition, and Cooks was within 300 yards and 2 TDs on 50 fewer targets with a much higher catch % for a team that spreads it out vs. a team that force fed OBJ and where he wasn't starting all 16 games...i'm intrigued.

and Brady was force-feeding Edelman last season. Doubt he'll be doing that with Cooks on the field...

Tom is still going to spread the ball around, and I think they have Cooks running so many deep routes that his total catches stay down. But yeah he immediately becomes the safest fantasy receiver option in the world.

or AJ Green. And he's certainly not the route runner that Antonio Brown is.

He ain't in my top 5 WRs in 2017 list, but he'll probably put up top 5 or even top 3 numbers.

Ahead of him, I've got:

1 - Julio Jones
2 - Antonio Brown
3 - AJ Green
4 - Mike Evans
5 - OBJ

Keep in mind that not all those guys have a QB nearly as great as Tom Brady throwing to them so #s won't tell the whole story.

though. Up until this past season with Winston, he really hasn't had luck with good QB play. I have no reason not to believe that if you put Mike Evans in NYG with Eli and that offense he would put up monstrous numbers. With that said, ODB is insanely gifted too so honestly I'm fine with him being #4.

together and playing at a high level on a more consistent basis. If you check out his stats over the past 3 seasons or so, you see a couple of big games here and there and then just terrible dry spells. Honestly, until this year I don't think he ever put together more than 4 good games in a row. He's been outstanding this year - especially in the redzone which previously was a weakness in his game. He'll never be a complete TE bc his blocking is terrible, but he's at least trying more this year.

>he ain't wit tom no more, so i don't care now, but he's a very
>good player.

this agenda wasn't about whether Cooks sucks or not. *your* parameters:

1. Saints had a "bum play package for him" and did not know how to run offense for Cooks
2. Cooks was a 80/1,200/10 TD guy while the Saints misused him, so just imagine the numbers he will put up with the GOAT
3. By the end of the season he will be in the conversation for best receiver in the NFL

1A. Saints fed Cooks an average of 123 targets per full season (he had 114 this past year) and was able to get match-ups against weaker defenders since Michael Thomas emerged as New Orleans' best and most reliable target

2A. Cooks played with the most accurate quarterback in NFL history, with eight games indoors under perfect conditions, so it's little surprise his catch rate dropped 10 percentage points (he had the worst catch rate among New England starting receivers). he had career full season lows in all marks except for YPC. he also had the most drops in a season since his rookie year.

3B. Cooks is a very good player, an excellent #2 in a passing game because of his speed and ability to work out of the slot and next to the boundary equally well. he is not an elite #1 option, which is where the conversation for best wideout in the league begins and ends.

your reasoning for Cooks' joining the elite tier did not make much sense in football context. seemed like you were just excited for a Brady-cyse, and thought Brady would magically get rid of Cooks' faults. I spelled it all to you above and you said I should just shut up.

watch some more games.
