Suppose Embiid wasn't this monster of talent, suppose he was a slightly lower tier. Let's say projected around 10th in the draft pre-college injury, 15th in the actual draft. He's thinking, if I come back healthy, I can I maybe a top 5, top 3 pick. Then... he tears something else. He's just cost himself literally millions of dollars.

If you can get that guaranteed first round money, you go. Go, go, go. Shit, even if you're a low first rounder who slides to the second, more and more players at the top of the second are getting multi-year guaranteed deals. You go. And don't think about it.

It's a goddamn shame that he's unlikely to ever be *fully* the player he projected to be freshman year of college... but at least he got a big-ass paycheck. Now let's hope he's saving and playing it smart health-wise over the remainder of his rookie deal in hopes of retaining some of that attractive potential for his next contract.

we're more tuned in to each player every second now, but you go back and look at those old drafts, and there are dudes who just disappeared, and usually the last note on them is that they tore their knee or something

today at lunch. He used to LOVE Laphonso Ellis, mainly cuz he was from East St. Louis. For a minute in Denver, it looked like he was gonna be a force for years to come at the 4 spot...but injury after injury picked him apart. Knee injuries, sports hernia, ruptured achilles. Man, he was so good. I'll always remember that block against, Dallas, I believe. Dude didn't swat the ball...he just removed it from the other cat in mid air, with one hand...cuffed it of dude's hands.

started getting injured and that's after after 2-4 years of college. Now we're having all these one and done kids going down before they're career gets started, Embiid, Simmons, Nerlins, Parker, Randle, Griffin, Oden, ALL these top picks in just the past decade that missed ALL or almost all of their entire rookie seasons? Then you look at the top 3 guys from the 2012 draft, all good to great players that didn't miss entire seasons but have missed a significant amount of games every year.

I could be wrong but I don't think its a coincidence. Is it too much ball? Are they just too athletic? Do they train too much?

he is the model for adapting your game post-injury

his numbers werent eye-popping but he was playing behind the Wallaces, so he was only a 20-25 mpg guy, but he was still capable of a 20-10 if we needed it and he was excellent in the 05 Finals. he developed a near automatic baseline turnaround, and he was still a force on the offensive glass. in fact his highest OREB% of his career came happened here.

WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE

Buried alive, of course. Every one of Trump Master Jerry's kids and grandkids. Get the spouses to be sure.

Then double what Hinkie was making and publicly grovel. Agendas aside, I'm not even sure if The Process could work or if Hinkie's good, but at least he had a plan and DIDNT PLAY OUR MOTHERFUCKING INJURY PRONE FRANCHISE PLAYER ON A GODDAMNED TORN MENISCUS.

but who am I kidding. We obviously have a bottom five ownership group, right down there with Vivek. We're fucked no matter what.

Drinking time now.

Your high school team got bounced from the playoffs tonight? Good.

Basketball should make you unhappy and unsure that tomorrow is worth living.

The reality looks like he has an aberrant loading pattern that is only exacerbated further by injury.

Just sucks all around. Hoping for the best

I once had a partially torn MCL which, from what I understand, is similar to a meniscus tear. It wasn't that bad of an injury, but did require a brace fore for awhile. Even though I returned from injury relatively quick, it probably took me a year to feel comfortable making quick cuts.

I'm hoping that's all this is for Embiid. It enrages me how the Sixers staff handled this - from an outsiders perspective.

He's Greg Oden and we all know it.

But on the...10? 20? 30? percent chance he isn't, he's a Hall of Famer. You need to keep relations with him as strong as possible. Right now, he and his team should and probably do think the Sixers are a clown organization. A max extension will soothe all that.

It's also not a bad time to do it. Let's say we get, oh, Fultz and Josh Jackson in the draft. They'll be on rookie deal for four years, Simmons and Saric for three. We have some time before the only guys who matter get expensive.

It's also reasonable to assume that the team without a healthy embiid is at least 2 years from serious contention. I don't think FAs will consider us a realistic option for that long.

Most importantly, the kid has fucking earned it. He's worked his ass off. It's not my money, and I would really like to see the Embiid family set for life, even if he never plays another minute for us.

I'm not talking about on court performance. I'm talking about a good, dedicated professional and solid kid. As I laid out above, there's almost no realistic downside for the franchise. By the time we're at all good, his extension would be half over.

The only downside from a basketball standpoint is that you eliminate the space to easily do a second Kings deal. Since those only happen once a decade, I'd rather Embiid hold that 100 million than Josh Fucking Harris.

Sixers doctors must have trained at a 16th century Medical school. Using fucking bloodletting, amputating limbs while using whiskey for anesthesia.

On a serious note they really need to clean house there. Every fucking injury sustained there has resulted in 2x the reported worst case scenario... every single fucking injury

Embiid - multiple times, Simmons foot, Jah's knee, Nerlens whatever the fuck was wrong with him at the beginning of the season, Bayless wrist, MCW's shoulder.

as serious as an ACL or MCL tear. The recovery time period is like 6-8 weeks. But of course, he's working with Philly's medical staff so all bets are off.

It's unrelated to his previous injuries so I don't think we need to jump off the ledge just yet. However, you gotta be concerned for his long term health and ability to stay healthy. Some guys just have terrible luck staying healthy and Embiid might just be one of those guys.

To clarify what I said above: The lower extremity is a very connected kinetic chain. If this was a meniscus injury on a dude who had no other lower body issues (like say Westbrook) then I'm not too worried but injuries don't exist in a vacuum. Embiid's navicular fracture already spoke to him having an improper loading through his legs and this meniscus injury is another drop in the bucket towards affirming that inclination. Sadly, that forces me to think he's likely to have higher odds of sustaining lower body injuries.

Does that mean he will? No. But there's a pattern here that indicates a higher odds ratio.

Yet another horrible break for Embiid. I genuinely hope he can at least string together a half dozen or so seasons at close to full strength. Such a unique talent.

2 months to determine if surgery is necessary for a partially torn meniscus??? Seriously? Between this and their terrible mishandling of Jah's meniscus tear along with countless other injury mishaps, I have no faith in this medical staff.
