"Weekend Soccer 02.24-27: Bye, Claudius"

Considering the riches promised to clubs who can maintain their spot in the Premier League, it's no great shock that Leicester City ended Claudio Ranieri's tenure just 9 months after he helped give the club the greatest moment in its history. Bittersweet (and IMO another sign it's all about the players, every single time), surely, but emotions and feelings have little place in the league nowadays, especially when relegation appear to be a real threat. While Jamie Vardy's goal on Wednesday gave them a real lifeline to staying in the Champions League race, their EPL horizons are not going to get clearer if they cannot get anything against Liverpool on Monday. Jurgen Klopp's merry band of wandering footballers are off an impressive 2-0 takedown of podium rivals Spurs, although with that game more than 2 weeks in the rear-view mirror, one wonders if the momentum hasn't been dampened a bit.

Despite their precarious Champions League position, Barca will surely have rejoiced at seeing Real's defeat to Valencia, which brought them to within 1 point to their rival (although with 1 game more). In that context their game against Atletico on Sunday (10:15am) looms large. Simeone's team looks well placed to go deep in the Champions League again, and with their Liga hopes all but dashed, their focus may be affected. Although if there's one thing you wouldn't expect from the Man in Black's squad, it's a lack of intensity.

Last and least (as per BeIN's programming department), PSG take on Marseille on Sunday (3pm). OM have righted the ship under Rudi Garcia, while Paris still can't quite catch up to Monaco.

with that PSG defeat and then a really underwhelming game vs. alaves.

I feel for Gomes. He obviously is still acclimating and figuring out his role but he's treated like he's a complete bust. He's just getting used in 4 or 5 different positions/styles and isn't comfortable in most of them. When he is comfortable, you can see his ability shine. Dude's legitimately got the potential to be a boss in a midfield if they let him. He could be Rakitic 2.0 if they'd just let him learn that one and ONLY THAT ONE position.

(could, not definitely will)

good intensity from both sides, Atleti muzzled the MSN as much (good game from Savic) as they could but the flashes were enough.
Can't say I saw enough from Barca that would make me think they can put a manita past us (famous last words n/m), but mostly I saw a defense that has enough cracks to exploit. Especially if Mathieu is out, although Digne acquitted himself better than I expected. He still sucks tho

Mostly this was a good result for the title race. A draw really wasn't helpful for either team

you change your lineup on the fly during the games if you want. called starting 11.

if you're interested, check out their website:

not sure how the scoring will work, but it definitely sounds pretty cool to get to make subs during the games each weekend.

but im a little surprised he's leaving given that he's probably about to do treble, double, double despite the transfer ban. i guess he sees the fall off of that roster coming up fast.

curious to see where he ends up as i dont think anyone thinks he's a top manager or anything. but he definitely updated the barca style to stay on top of the tactical changes in the game.

gets knocked on the head in the air, seems to go immediately unconscious and his head hits the ground hard. The reaction of his teammates (who tried to open his mouth to clear his tongue) and Depor players did not look good

Not sure if he was conscious when he was stretchered off, really hope he's OK
