Who you taking to build something around for the next 8-10 years?

Wiggins and Lavine are fine, but they aren't quite in this class.

Kawhi is already 25, btw.

Brilliantly constructed.

My predictions:
- Ba will say Kyrie
- others will point out Kyrie's record before Bron
- Ba will counter and talk shit about Anthony Davis and KAT
- Ba shitting on UK players will magically summon RealBillyOcean, and they'll go back and forth for 60ish replies or more
- then, you've got Philly fans who will likely cyse Embiid over a few others
- everyone will get mad at them for this and point out the small sample size, but they've won a few games recently, so they're ready to unload double barrows (c)
- someone will bring up the Lakers somewhere in here, as they have a bunch of young players
- Ba will insult the Lakers' entire non-Ingram roster, calling Randle and Russell sorry
- this will trigger both RealBillyOcean AND Warren, which will lead to several more replies
- when the Lakers come up, you will likely bring up Luke Walton, and that'll spin into more replies
- if we're lucky, you'll go after people for sleeping on Giannis in their rankings
- Castro will probably say Shabazz Napier or something, and we'll all have a good laugh

I mean, can you somehow summon Bulls fans too? Maybe find a way to get someone to insult the Warriors? I'm trying to think who might be left on the outside of this post.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

I still voted KAT tho, we'll see in the next two years. That Bucks roster is suspect and PAID for, so they really have no room for external improvement.

"Best young player" is arbitrary"

"Best young player 2 years in" is actually silly
because some guys are OLDER than others.

AGE is as fair a proxy for how far along they
are than any other measure.

Even "best player above 6'9" would be silly,
because that doesn't have real basketball meaning

Neither does "best cornerstone big man"

I set an age. I said pick the cornerstone below
THAT age.

That is a perfectly smart way to do this.

Giannis
KAT

Kyrie doesn't belong on this list. Nothing left to prove. Waiting to see what kind of team LeGM leaves him with when he walks away.

Zingis might, but however you feel about his talent that team is built around Melo and will be until the contract is up.

Every awkward fall i get worried. Still pick him over everybody but Davis, who also gets hurt alot. He's a two-way force.

Thats about how long it took for a guy like Brook to shake that foot stigma.

I mean in the back of your mind you always are like "oh man" when he falls like you said, but it becomes less of a worry.

how many of these guys are two way players?

The sole reason Anthony Davis doesn't deserve to win this are the legit health concerns at this point. I do wonder if this dude will eventually bounce from the Pelicans. I don't see them improving that roster outside of lucking out on future drafts. Hopefully some young talent will land on that team to hook Anthony Davis up.

Id go

Davis
Embiid
Giannis

KAT

The first 3 are all really close. Davis is the safest bet because hes tried and true for the longest. He can do everything you want out of a modern big. Score inside, outside (out to 21 ft), pass a bit, board and he's a solid help defender. His cons besides injury (which this year theyve finally let him tough through shit) is that he's had time to lead a team to the playoffs and make noise, but just barely got there. He's played on pretty bad teams though but no excuses right?

Embiid like Davis can do everything you want out of a modern big too, and he has a better 3 point shot. He's not as mobile a rebounder as Davis (more on that later) but he's better on the ball and as a help defender. He does what you want as a old school big really well. He eats up paint and intimidates drivers from coming in and he can help. On the ball he can move his feet enough to stay with most bigs and has the length to bother shots.
Whats interesting about him is his college game was so different than what he's become. He was a tall, lanky, rangy college big. I remember really liking him on our podcast, but Id be lying if I said I knew he would be this polished offensively. What I loved about him was his motor and range as a defender and rebounder. As he's put on size he's lost some of that mobility but he's such a big presence who can do so much on both ends of the floor. What I really love about him right now --is that he doesnt try and do too much. He often makes the right play and doesnt just force shit despite his talent. Its pretty incredible if you think about it despite him being relatively new to basketball. You are gonna be worried about injury with him for awhile, but the 6ers are in no rush to extend him past 28 minutes. And if he can keep this up I think he still has the highest ceiling.

Giannis is rightfully leading in votes. Statistically he's a monster despite some glaring holes in his game. So people will always say. "Man can you imagine when he can knock down that 3?"
Or wait til he understands the game a bit better. He's doing all of this only playing the game for about 10 yrs like Joel. As a pg in the Russy and Harden role he can do so much. he can get to the hole at will, he's a monster in transition, and has the ability to find open men. He has the best efg% of the group despite his poor 3pt shooting. Defensively, he gets in passing lanes and can recover so well to get blocks. You'd like him to be a bit tougher 1-on-1 but just his size and length is enough to scare most tier 2 guys from trying to go at him.

KAT -- I dont feel like typing much about KAT now. Essentially he's gotta get a little tougher on both ends of the floor, but otherwise he can do it all on both ends of the floor. He also has the tendency to go off, then just chill within the same game.

Honorable mention -- Jokic. Wont spend too much time on him either but this dude is an offensive Savant. Might be the most skilled offensive player out of this group-- and thats saying a lot. His passing is off the charts -- like GOAT status for his position at 21. He can score inside, mid-range, and outside. The main gripe with him is if he's a savant offensively, he's a total dunce on defense.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

I decided to not play with the obvious bait in this post and just make it my own.

Almost excluded Giannis for the same reason, but at least he's 6'10 +

The other thing i didnt mention about Embiid is how his personality seems to be the perfect fit for that young team. His good play/good natured leadership has pretty quickly changed the 6ers culture.

sidenote - the young bigs in this league are on another level (potential wise) right now.

AD
KP
KAT
Embiid
Jokic
Turner

All guys with the potential to stretch the floor/protect the rim, & overall versatility on both sides of the ball.

You have the less mobile version of that with Gasol.

Then you have the young Chandler p&r/rim protector types like DJ & Drummond (& like you said, I think WCS has that potential too).

Plus you have Demarcus beasting fools all over the place & when he's engaged protects the rim in a Gasol type way (moving his feet/quick hands/being in right position).

Bari and Brogdon are good cornerstone help guys.

Guys that can do their job without the ball. If Middleton can do more to space the floor and or add someone else.

Just remember when you add pieces...dont add dudes who need the ball in their hands unless its gonna be your 6th man.

And find a defensive anchor big. Trade someone for WCS and give him a kick at C

I posted above that I have a slight concern about his attitude - seems like he should be better defensively than he actually is, and sometimes more assertive on offense. But the former is probably the product of youth and the latter is probably the product of Thibs' shitty coaching.

Nah nah, I'm still going Giannis.

Ben is god status, no doubt.

But Giannis sold watches at halftime during games
the year he was drafted. He wasn't coddled and raised to
be a star.

Ben is Nigerian too, but I'm rolling with the Nigerian
who came to the place he was raised on a boat.

he barely tolerates his team mates. And he's arrogant. They ask him do he watch other rookies, he say 'hell naw, I watch Bron, Russ, Curry, Durant.' They ask him who should be ROY he say "you playing right?". They ask him, what do he think of the allstar game and he say "It was some ole booolsheeet! How I ain't make the team?".

Ben Simmons don't care about nothing but greatness man. To a selfish level. I'm gonna say this, at the risk of it biting me in the a** later but, he 'looks' like Kobe's mindset + Lebron's skillset O_o.

He a jumper and experience away from a shot at GOATness.

I bet he look at Embiid like a nice lil sidekick that can't stay healthy. He gonna tutor Fultz and have him on the NGAF train soon. I bet he punch a teammate after a disappointing loss at some point in his career.

If his Kobe mindset evolves into an MJ mindset (that's when it matures past 'hate everyone...THIS IS ME!' to 'I'm going to dominate you and make you love me at the same time')...maaaaaaaaan listen.

Giannis is tough and he's a jumper away from GOATiness too. Should be fun watching them chase the throne.

But Ben is mean, fam.

i have watched ben snatch an uncontested rebound away from a teammate more than ten times this season. it's been happening less frequently with embiid lately, which leads me to think embiid had to tell him that he was gonna get fucked up if he kept stealing's jojo's stats. those two could absolutely be headed for a shaq/kobe beef, which, as long as i get three rings out of it, COOL.

but yes, ben is a TOTAL asshole. no coincidence justice hit him with those words last game. that lil' elbow move they've been calling lately is 90 percent ben playing good basketball, 10 percent ben wants to beat you AND fuck you up. he's really only scratched the surface of his dirty player potential

I appreciate this argument.

Well done.

It does seem to be true.

That interview when he was asked about other
rookies?!?! LMAO! I was like "Whoa, this dude
a sincere, genuine asshole. Like, almost Isiah
Thomas grade."

He just wasn’t ready for playoff intensity. By Game 4 he was figuring it out.
