"Weekend Soccer 12.10-12: Winks and you miss it"

Moving house tomorrow so won't have time (or the internet) to post. United-Spurs is the big one this weekend, with the Red Devils struggling to get any sort of dynamic going and Spurs hoping to keep up with their London neighbors Chelsea and Arsenal. Mkhitaryan rewarded Mourinho with a strong performance in the Europa League today, let's see if this gets him another start on Sunday.

Had to respond after giving up the penalty (and I don't like the call but Xhaka has to know better than to bring his elbow up in the box when trying to box-out an attacker, that's just putting yourself at risk for a foul) and we did so. Loved Iwobi's energy in the 2nd half and Giroud is such a weapon off the bench because of how he completely changes our dynamic...a back 4 goes from having to deal with the movement and incisiveness of Alexis at the 9 and as they are beginning to acclimate, on comes Giroud who completely shifts to a pivot player, sitting between the CBs, wearing on tired legs and minds.

The biggest ramification of the game is going to be Mustafi's injury...he went off with a hamstring injury (which is why Bellerin came on and looked quite fit, as Gabriel moved to CB) which is always trouble due to its nagging nature but comes at the busiest time of the year with the xmas schedule (which is beyond ridiculous but that's another topic). Hopefully it's a minor tear (all strains are tears) and he is able to get back on the pitch without it flaring up sooner rather than later.

3 points, 1 point clear of Liverpool and Man City for 2nd place regardless of their results.

A tiny club wins the league one year, plays like shit the next, except then they destroy the richest club in the world.

Conclusion: nobody really knows anything.

The complexity of which may result in results that appear random, but are in fact highly determined.

What I'm saying is that the system's complexity is such that it's workings, ultimately, are unknowable, despite one's best efforts.

In other words: football, bloody hell.

This dude receives a 40 yard outlet to the wing...and he kills just enough of the pace to weight it perfectly to put Vardy in 1 on 1 with just enough space to round Bravo easily and it's a tap-in. Absolutely sublime touch, my goodness. Depending on how LC finishes this season, let's see if Riyad isn't willing to move on bc I can only imagine how well he would fit in with a top end team.

yessir, this is gonna be fun to watch. Actually a lot of the matchups are pretty entertaining, as far as Rd of 16s go

I couldn't watch the game yesterday, could only listen to 20mins on RMC, but this squad is just not gonna cut it in its current incarnation. We have the tools in the middle (Verrati da god, again) but up front Di Maria is trash and Lucas is Lucas. The backline's struggles are strange but I'm wondering if they'll settle down if Trapp gets another shot. Up front Emery seems to want to play just Cavani as a way to force Nasser to grab another forward in January?

Of course it will always be possible to get unlucky by drawing the worst first-place team or the best second-place team. But because they don't allow same-country match-ups in the round of 16, finishing 2nd in your group can actually give a team (Real Madrid this year, for example) BETTER ODDS of facing a weaker opponent, which is ridiculous.

the persistent rumors from sources that've proved reliable over the last few years

his comments (friendship w/ pogba and desire to play in the EPL)

simeone fast forwarding his exit timeline

and just atletico's general play this season. it looks like they've topped out and need some adjustments to maintain.

and this is regardless of whether we make the CL or not because the checks still get cut with ease.

Missi blew his chance at that elusive global title by missing a penalty.

from Kante winning the header against O'Shea (who has a good 5" and nearly 20lbs on him) to the interplay between Willian and Fabregas, and Cesc's clinical finish...

A goal of the year (or even month) candidate this won't be, but as it is it's a perfect capsule of where this Chelsea squad is right now. As far as away games this wasn't the proverbial rainy Tuesday night game in Stoke, but it's pretty damn close. And their next 3 games are eminently winnable too (@ Palace, v Bournemouth, v Stoke), before their Jan 4 clash against Spurs which hopefully is as wild as their New Year's Day game in 2015 (5-3 to Spurs, aka Kane's coming out party)

could've maybe called pogba's goal back
should've called a pen on a palace handball
wrongfully disallowed a goal of ours.

but pogba and zlatan said fuckitdoooooooooe.
