We need em to be. And while Anderson and Gordon are eating up huge chunks of our cap, they're also giving Harden as much space as he's ever had to slice these dudes up. And my God, he has been.
The West looks muddled enough for the Rockets to make a play for a high seed (I mean, not more than the third seed and the fourth or fifth is still a much more reasonable high-end expectation for us), which is all I would have asked prior to this season. Wouldn't be entirely impossible for us to create max cap space this offseason, so a year of looking like a fun place to play and Harden looking like a top 5 player could mean a lot.
This is just where we really know, though, right? If they have more in the tank, if they can adjust to the defenses' adjustments, maybe if they can make a deal (exchanging brewer's minutes for almost anyone else's would be nice), then they're a real threat to make the WCF. If they play .500 ball for the rest of the year and cruise on the games above .500 they have currently, they'll likely get snuffed by a hungrier Clippers or deeper Jazz in the first round.
