"Josh Brown"

presented without comment
http://nypost.com/2016/10/19/how-the-hell-did-giants-and-nfl-let-josh-brown-slide/

“I have physically, mentally, emotionally and verbally been a repulsive man,” Brown wrote in one of his journal entries. “I have abused my wife.”

“I have been a liar for most of my life,” he wrote. “I made selfish decisions to use and abuse women starting at the age of 7 to fill this void. I objectified women and never really worried about the pain and hurt I caused them. My ability to connect emotionally to other people was zero. My empathy levels were zero.

“Because I never handled these underlying issues I became an abuser and hurt Molly physically, emotionally and verbally. I viewed myself as God basically and she was my slave.”

and Ben McAdoo is completely full of shit:

January 2016
Q: What won’t you tolerate as head coach?
McAdoo: Domestic violence is something that we’re all cracking down on in this league. That’s something that’s important to us as an organization, important to me as a man, and important to me as a coach.

August 2016
Q: Did Brown's arrest affect the team's choice to re-sign him this offseason?
McAdoo: That's a better question for Jerry (Reese). I do support Josh as a man, a father, and a player. We treat these situations on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Did the team conduct its own investigation into the matter?
McAdoo: I stay in my lane. I don't have any information on that.

Q: What was it about this case that made you want to welcome Brown back to the team with open arms after he serves the one-game suspension?
McAdoo: That's something that's private and I'm not willing to discuss publicly. That doesn't change my stance. My stance stays the same. I'm a father, I'm a husband, and my stance on personal conduct stays the way it is. Stays consistent, and it stays strong. But I think it's important for an organization and the locker room to take it on a case by case basis.

he wanted him off the team and reese and the ownership said nah. When the giants re-sgined brown he was still the OC if i remember correctly. He probably didn't find out about the DV stuff til after his introductory presser. Makes him look like a 2 faced liar but his hands are tied.

And that's the best case scenario that he wanted Brown off the team when he found out.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

however, Brown was resigned this April. McAdoo was introduced as head coach in January. also, Brown was arrested way back in the spring of 2015. obviously McAdoo was not the coach back then, but he sure picked a weird mountain to die on in January -- he made those declarative statements while the Giants were negotiating Brown's extension.

Mcadoo more than likely didn't know about the DV stuff until some point after he became head coach though.

I know the PR guy was probably like 'uh, that's enough for today' after he made the DV comments.

But i don't feel no sympathy for Mcadoo...don't fake a tough stance on something that you either A) don't have control over or B) don't care enough to do anything about.

If Mcadoo doesn't tolerate DV what does that mean if he has no control over player personnel?

and I'm coming up blank.

Not a defense of McAdoo, but I don't think there's a single person in a position of an authority anywhere who genuinely cares about domestic violence beyond the negative PR associations.

Unless the question was specifically focusing on off the field incidents, there was no reason to mention it. A smarter coach would've limited it to something like that or "anyone giving less than 100% in practice" or some other platitude.

Who gives a fuck about that honestly. Same deal with Ray Rice. Just be glad these guys recognize they have a problem and are dealing with it. Clearly no one cares if they are suspended or not. People will still fuck with the NFL and rightfully so. Not everyone has to be a good person to be a good player. Same with Hollywood. We need to be more concerned with what the law does or doesn't do.

BTW we also need to do a better job of making sure people are more aware so that they don't end up with abusers. It needs to be talked about more in schools and *gasp* in churches.

The letters/journal make him sound like a mad man. Perhaps they are worried that a strong reaction from them might send him spiraling and potentially suicidal.

I doubt that is what's happening but it seems absolutely bizarre to me that they are standing by him like they are. Maybe he has something on the owners or something.

Brown was actually expressing regret and fear of consequences... and then turns around and says that he's God and his wife is a slave.

And I was responding to a possible reason he hasn't been cut, because it makes no sense that he hasn't been released yet. The only thing that is close to excusable is if the Giants think dude could kill himself if he's released. Beyond that, they're fucking up.

Are you on coke?

Greg Hardy is clear cut obviously an unstable person.
I see no reason to make mental health an excuse for
one and not the other.

No, it's because white people have it easier than black
people.

Big black pass rushers are evil, white kickers are mentally
unstable.

You're a progressive white dude and just copped pleas for
Brown.

This is why we'll never truly get anywhere with race.

44. "Again, I didn't make any excuse for Brown's actions"
In response to Reply # 28

The post I replied to said that there was no moral excuse for not cutting him. I said the one excuse possible was they were worried Brown would kill himself if he was cut immediately. The same excuse would have worked if the Panthers didn't cut Greg Hardy right away.

I also said that I didn't think that was what was going on in this situation; I just threw out the one possible defense the GIANTS would have for THEIR inaction so far.

As for the men themselves, I think Brown is crazier and more insidious because he realizes what he's doing is wrong but still does it. I feel like Hardy is a guy, if you could convince him he needs treatment - which would be the hardest part, would respond to therapy/medication. I don't think so with Brown; I think he'd just use it to figure out better ways to cover up for himself next time.

Either way, I've never made any excuses for Brown's actions as you accuse me of. I think he should be cut and should have at least been charged with a crime since the cops had written confessions that he abused his wife. If the charge had to be dropped because the wife wouldn't cooperate, fine, but get the charge out there at least.

I'm not sure if it's of any concern to them, other than it being illegal. If it was guaranteed that it would never get out, they'd have zero problem giving shit tons of money to guys who beat their wives. If the league isn't going to discipline him, they're not going to do it.

If the backlash gets to the point where companies start talking about pulling their sponsorship from the Giants, they might do something.

Once the new stuff came out, I don't know how you just don't cut him immediately. He confesses to beating his wife in it and then just comes off as bipolar or something.

People sweep this shit under the rug all the time, I saw it at 'Cuse a few times with the football players, but it's out now, is a terrible look for the Giants, and they seem confused as to how to handle the situation.

Give it a week or two, people might forget about it. Again, we'll see if companies threaten to pull their sponsorships. But they're making a bet that most fans aren't going to be that upset about a kicker admitting he beats his wife and the league going "cool, you should sleep in different hotel rooms at the Pro Bowl."

Domestic violence is supposed to be something the NFL is standing up to and you show that that's total bullshit over Josh Brown? Just seems bizarre to say, "Let's hope this whole controversy blows over and doesn't make us look as bad as it probably already does" over a completely replaceable player.

he's gone. They look like idiots for not doing it already.

All they needed is to have 1 convo with brown. Did you write those things. Only reason they should need time to investigate is if he's claiming he didn't write it.

I genuinely do. But I'm not optimistic. I do think after everything that's come out since yesterday, there's more than enough reasons for the Giants to be done with him. But I can't figure out why they haven't yet. Like, what's holding them back?

So that comparison is pretty baseless.

Also, my comment was trying to explain why the Giants haven't cut him. It wasn't a comment on him and what he did.

so they can claim they requested but were denied.

WOW

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/10/21/king-county-sheriff-blasts-nfl-over-josh-brown/

Because the case against Brown was an open investigation, the Sheriff’s Office was not going to release case files. Urquhart said they never received any written requests from anyone claiming to be a representative of the NFL. He said four days after the incident with Brown opened an investigation, the Sheriff’s Office received a public disclosure request from a Robert Agnew from a generic Comcast.net email address. Another request came from Agnew months later where he again didn’t state his affiliation.

“Nowhere on the request does he say that he works for the NFL and so, we don’t know that it’s the NFL and we’re not gonna give it out anyway, so we denied it,” Urquhart said. “… To our discredit, perhaps, we didn’t use the Google, to Google this guy’s name. Turns out that he is a security representative based in Seattle for the NFL. But he never told us that. The NFL never told us that. At no time has the NFL ever filed a written request – public disclosure request – for any of these files. Period. It’s never happened.”

A different league representative did make calls to the Sheriff’s Office seeking the case file. She was also denied multiple times due to the fact the case was an open investigation. A Seattle police officer claiming to represent the league also asked for the files and was denied as well.

Urquhart said if the league had gone through proper public disclosure channels, the request would have come to his desk and a conversation with the league about the situation could have been more fruitful.

“I would have said exactly the same thing, ‘We cannot release the case file.’ But since this is a hot-button item in the NFL, since it’s the NFL, we probably would have told them orally a little bit more about what we had.” he said. “But we don’t have them calling us here. We’ve got some goofus from Woodinville named Rob Agnew asking for the case file. We have no idea who he is.”

“We would have told them… ‘Be careful, NFL, don’t rush into this. This case is blossoming way more than what happened on May 22nd of 2015. We’re getting more information, be careful,’” he said. “Again, we’re not gonna give them specifics but we certainly would have cautioned the NFL to be careful about what they were going to do.”

say it with me: THE COVER-UP LOOKS WORSE THAN THE CRIME

there was a certain point where the Ravens knew what happened and the NFL likely did too. they both treated it like "we can't let one of our stars get taken down." The reality was he was in a sharp decline and the league and team has been fine without him. Had the organization listened to Harbaugh they would've avoided the entire mess. He was so much more replaceable than they thought that it's crazy they even considered covering it up, and even crazier the NFL appeared complicit in that. Not to mention that Ray seemed very remorseful and wanted to make up for his sins.

Now obviously we don't know what the Giants knew and when, but they knew SOMETHING and still resigned him. He's JUST a kicker. You want to go to bat for an elite quarterback until it all falls apart, I get that, but why protect an easily replaceable guy when it has such a high likelihood of blowback?

"The Exempt List is a special player status available to clubs only in unusual circumstances. The List includes those players who have been declared by the Commissioner to be temporarily exempt from counting within the Active List limit. Only the Commissioner has the authority to place a player on the Exempt List; clubs have no such authority, and no exemption, regardless of circumstances, is automatic. The Commissioner also has the authority to determine in advance whether a player's time on the Exempt List will be finite or will continue until the Commissioner deems the exemption should be lifted and the player returned to the Active List."

It gets the Giants a roster spot and is kind of a paid suspension. Kind of a "We haven't made the determination to suspend you but your shit stinks so much that we can't have you playing while we make said decision. "

no snark. Somebody tell me how I'm reading his quote incorrectly.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/giants-rb-jennings-josh-brown-doesn-support-domestic-violence-article-1.2843360

Shortly after Josh Brown was arrested on domestic violence allegations last year, his ex-wife, Molly Brown, told police she was reluctant to pursue criminal charges because she feared the Giants would vilify her in the media and rally around the kicker she says abused her at least 20 times.

Rashad Jennings may have proved her right Monday, when he praised Brown as “a good friend and a great man” during an appearance on the NFL Network.

“A lot of people obviously want to attack, but we love and pray for him, just like anybody else, anybody in the nation that’s dealing with stuff like that,” the Giants running back said.

Jennings told the NFL Network that he wants to learn more about the allegations leveled against Brown so he could form an “effective opinion.” But he said a second later that he did not need to form an opinion because Brown acknowledged that he had physically and emotional abused his ex in journal entries that were among the documents released by the King County, Wash., Sheriff's Office last week.

“Honestly you don’t even need an opinion,” Jennings said. “Why? Because this is something the man himself doesn’t even support, domestic violence against anyone. It’s just unfortunate that you have to deal with it. We support him, we’re here for him.”

Victim advocate Kathy Redmond Brown said men who abuse wives or girlfriends often present themselves to friends and co-workers as upstanding guys. They can be charming and fun — and they rarely offer hints that they assault the women in their lives.

“A guy like Josh Brown, in the locker room or with fans, won’t display that kind of behavior,” said Redmond Brown, who founded the National Coalition Against Violent Athletes after she filed a Title IX lawsuit against the University of Nebraska in 1995 that claimed Huskers defensive tackle Christian Peter — who later played for the Giants — had sexually assaulted her. “He knows better than to demonstrate behavior like that in public.”

Redmond Brown, an NFL consultant in the past, said domestic violence occurs in cycles. Abusers are often apologetic and emotionally open immediately after a violent incident. It confuses battered women. They even blame themselves for triggering the abuse.

“The women say, ‘If I adapt, if I look at my role in this, it will not happen again.’ They get sucked into a cycle. He makes promises to get help. It weakens psychological defenses,” Redmond Brown said.

Jennings told the NFL Network that nobody in the Giants organization supports domestic violence. But Molly Brown told a King County Sheriff detective that some of her ex-husband’s teammates were aware of the domestic violence in their relationship — and nobody raised concerns with team management or law enforcement.

Giants owner John Mara also has acknowledged that he knew of Brown's 2015 domestic violence arrest and of the night Brown allegedly pounded on the door of his ex-wife’s Honolulu hotel room while intoxicated during Pro Bowl week in January of this year. Molly Brown was forced to change hotels that night in order to ensure her safety. The Giants, however, still re-signed Brown to a two-year, $4 million contract this past spring.

Woodinville, Wash. Prosecutors said they declined to file charges against him because his ex-wife was reluctant to testify against him, making it difficult to prove their case in court. Brown was placed on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list on Friday and stayed home for the team's win over the Rams in London. His status with the organization remains in flux.

It was essentially: "I never hit my wife. I abused her in other ways. But life's a journey and I've dealt with my issues and I'm ready to make a positive impact in the world." He apologized to the Giants and the Maras but not to his wife.

At least the Giants just finally cut him. I'll be stunned if this guy doesn't come up on charges on something else in the future.

he basically terrorized this woman for years...across multiple states.

"Brown was accused by his ex-wife of pushing her into a large mirror in their bedroom, throwing her on the floor, jumping on top of her and pinning her face to the carpet with his forearm on the back on her neck. In a separate incident, he allegedly kicked a door off the hinges and into the arm of her son, kicked a chair into his wife and pushed her over a paper shredder."
