but what he might have been best at was as a communicator and defensive leader, he quarterbacked and anchored those Boston teams defensively, veteran guys like Ray and Pierce who weren't really known for their defense before as well as the young guys they mixed in were all forced to raise their games defensively to become one of the greatest defensive teams of the modern era.
