51
Melo's a lock, Hill is less accomplished than Melo
Sep 23rd 2016
52
nope...hill better in college and pros when healthy
Sep 23rd 2016
65
Melo was twice as good as a freshman and made All-Star by the same age
Sep 23rd 2016
67
except he wasn't twice as good. different roles.
Sep 23rd 2016

Over 50 players have done 20-5-5. Fewer have achieved the #s Melo did.
Sep 26th 2016
115
that don't contradict what i said. molo ain't never done 20-5-5. mad?
Sep 26th 2016
119
50+ is more than "a few" so it kinda does. and grant never did 22-8-4.
Sep 26th 2016
122
relatively speaking, it's few. molo can't do it. mad?
Sep 26th 2016
123
The "chucker" can do 22-8-4, but the "versatile" Hill can't?
Sep 26th 2016
126
guess it happened because melo ain't worth one more dime.
Sep 26th 2016
129
specifically speaking, fewer did Melo's numbers. Grant couldn't do it.
Sep 26th 2016
127
i'm cool with what grant did when healthy for 6 season. no complaints
Sep 26th 2016
128
so you're cool with grant being a loser?
Sep 27th 2016
144
i'm cool with that, too. have fun making fun of grant in the owner's box
Sep 27th 2016
145
Cool! I'll make fun of Grant being a loser & sidekick in the owners box
Sep 27th 2016

Melo was playing in an era where the top prospects skipped college
Sep 23rd 2016
73
these clowns in the poll were playing in the era of two hand set shots
Sep 24th 2016

Except they were playing against the BEST 2-hand set shot shooters
Sep 24th 2016

Sep 24th 2016

Hill's best was better. Facts. Melo could never do 20-5-5. ever.
Sep 24th 2016
77
I was gonna say. Bosh better too.
Sep 24th 2016
80
Bosh has 3 playoff wins without Bron and Wade.
Sep 24th 2016
106
Hill could never do 28 and 7. Ever.
Sep 24th 2016
83
                                              Melo couldn't do 29 & 5 like Stack, EVER!
Sep 24th 2016
84
Melo did 28.9 and 6, dummy.
Sep 24th 2016
96
why can't melo win a ring like the other scoring champs tho?
Sep 24th 2016
100
u mean like yardley, pistol, ice, AD, english, king, nique, AI & t-mac?
Sep 24th 2016
104
they all 5th tier, too. so you know molo's place, then?
Sep 25th 2016
110
Grant 6th tier, so above him.
Sep 26th 2016
112
i'll sacrifice that, as long as molo 5th tier. he not that good.
Sep 26th 2016
116
so you'll concede Melo better than Grant?
Sep 26th 2016
120
he's had a better career. grant's best was better. best i can do.
Sep 26th 2016
121
                                                                            cool.
Sep 26th 2016

Sep 26th 2016
125
you're asking that guy to round?
Sep 24th 2016
102
seems like he could...he was at 26, 7 and 5 the year he got hurt.
Sep 24th 2016
87
So? Melo averaged 4.2 apg last year
Sep 24th 2016
88
                                              Per 100 poss: '99-'00 Hill (34PPG /25 FGA), Melo career (35PPG/27 FGA)
Sep 24th 2016
86
so Grant at his best is roughly average for Melo
Sep 24th 2016
103
Melo just did 22-8-4, would seem to indicate he could.
Sep 24th 2016
92
he's had lots of healthy years to not do it tho. oh well.
Sep 24th 2016
98
grant had enough healthy years to lead his team to a playoff series win.
Sep 24th 2016
105
kyrie only needed one healthy postseason to be better than molo
Sep 25th 2016
108
kyrie only needed an all-time great to carry him to the postseason
Sep 26th 2016
114
as long as 27-4-4 and a GW for a chip gotta be trash, i know you mad
Sep 26th 2016
117
as long as kyrie can't take a team to the playoffs, he a sidekick.
Sep 26th 2016
130
he got a ring on 27-4-4 averages in the finals. he better than molo.
Sep 26th 2016
131
Dumars got a ring on 27-6-2 shooting 58% FG, so he better than Ky right?
Sep 27th 2016
148
of course he is. so? they BOTH better than molo.
Sep 27th 2016
150
well dumars is 5th tier so that puts kyrie on the 6th tier with grant
Sep 28th 2016
159
                                                                                           kyrie a baby. molo old.

these Carmelo Anthony posts are bigger (or smaller depending on how you view things) than Carmelo Anthony the actual player.

This post is a proxy to antagonize folks that ride for the dude, not to provide added commentary about Carmelo Anthony himself.

This year should be an eventful one on these message boards.

Melo took his team to the playoffs every year his first 10 years in the league. Took Grant more time to get there, even though he came into the league with 3 more years of age, experience and development under his belt. And still couldn't make the playoffs every year before the injuries.

it's ok if you're mad, we understand.

Hill didn't do that even as a senior. Never the best player on a title team.

Melo more ACCOMPLISHED in the pros. More all star games, more all NBA teams, more Player of the months, more player of the weeks, more playoff appearances, better stats, scoring champ, etc. More accomplishments.

You're hiding behind Hill's injury. Easy to do. Too bad we have enough data and footage to see he was better than Melo.

Melo just not as good as y'all wanna think. Of his whole crew, he'll always be fourth best, behind bron, wade and paul. If Bosh hung wit 'em like that, he'd be fifth.

You're abandoning that "least accomplished" dumb shit already? In favor of "at their respective bests"? Already?

Melo more accomplished than Hill, though.

he was pushed to take more shots and become a scorer that year, under gentry. He played on a shit ankle the last month of the season and his scoring and other stats average took a hit the last couple of weeks.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hillgr01/gamelog/2000/

it's okay. i KNOW. you didn't. you think melo is something he's not. he's a talented scorer who'd had free rein to chuck and bullshit as much as he's wanted for pretty much his ENTIRE nba career. he's been coached horribly. that's not his fault. being in shit shape most of his career was his fault though.

i bet hill in better shape than melo right now.

you're the one hiding behind Hill's injury. he had enough time to show what he could do while he was healthy, it just wasn't good enough. missed the playoffs multiple times. couldn't win a playoff series. wasn't nothing but a bougie T-Mac

>he'll always be fourth best, behind bron, wade and paul. If
>Bosh hung wit 'em like that, he'd be fifth.

Paul can't win with a GOOD team. And Bosh ain't even a sidekick, he a tri-kick, just like how Grant's greatest success came as the 3rd wheel behind Laettner and Hurley. That's his legacy.

It's only going to get tougher now if you take out the per-segregation superstars of the 50s like Mikan & replace them with the all-time players of the past 20 years.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

That he can't even crack the top 150, which skews heavily towards current players (unless you think Amir Johnson really is better than Brad Daugherty AND Kevin McHale) is pretty damning.

Like, pretty much every other modern star does TOO well. Why is the melo the one it underrates? And even if it underrates him, is he really more than 100 spots overrated, particularly when a different, probably better stat (win shares) has him comfortably outside the top 50?

so yeah, pretty flawed.

>him, is he really more than 100 spots overrated, particularly
>when a different, probably better stat (win shares) has him

It has Nash at 186th while WS has him at 35th. Also has Bosh at 173rd (right behind Jared Dudley) while WS has him at 66th, and Tony Parker 203rd while WS has him at 67th. So Melo is not the only modern star it underrates, and it can be more than 100 spots off.

WS is generally what I like, but for in-season comparisons I find RPM interesting, so I posted the historical results up with the idea they'd be at least halfway decent but without looking too much at them. After looking at it and considering your examples, I have to admit I was wrong and should have spent more time with it before introducing it into this discussion.

Better college AND pro career than Pistol Pete (NCAA champ + made it out the 1st round at least a couple times).

English & Bernard at most you can say is equal to him career wise. Melo's longevity tho I think is stretching past King's prime that was hampered by injuries.

what Kobe and any other great Laker accomplished.... it's all the same nonsense, what if's and coulda woulda shoulda.....

He got 5 rings..he's the premier player of his generation...and he ended his career scoring 50 points ..not sitting on a bench hung-over...

real talk...

but honestly the premise of this entire thread is ridiculous....not suprising coming from a guy like basa with his low NBA IQ.... but still..ridiculous none the less...

he's talking about "accomplishments"..not who the better player is...and with the long list of NBA greats who won scoring titles yet didn't achieve the greatest "accomplishment" of winning a championship.....the premise is pointless...

Carmelo Anthony hasn't accomplished the ultimate goal in the NBA...but neither did AI, Iceman, David Thompson, and several others...

but he's got some Gold medals..he's had a great career...and he's a solid guy who isn't shrinking from the spotlight and trying to make a social impact instead of just portraying the "Man-with-a-boy's swag" that some in his era chose to follow

other than one game he looked DONE in the Olympics.

He is out-of-shape 32 years old injury-prone forward who never really committed to working on his body (and it looks like he never will), so he ballooned to PF, except he don't know how to defend that position and doesn't move without the ball either. Not to mention that Molo can't really play PF full time cause Dat Zingis is the future and Phil has enough sense to not turn him into a center to accommodate washed-up veterans like Molo. So now Molo has a real chance of being the weakest link in a line-up that features a PG with no knees who's facing criminal charges and a broken down Frenchman.

>other than one game he looked DONE in the Olympics.

Nah. False. He had multiple good games, one great one.

>He is out-of-shape 32 years old injury-prone forward

Played 72 games last year. He's had one big injury in 13 years.

who never
>really committed to working on his body (and it looks like he
>never will), so he ballooned to PF,

False. He played a lot of PF in certain seasons due to the makeup of his team, and because, you know, "small ball" has been a league wide trend.

except he don't know how
>to defend that position

He's a solid on ball defender at any position. See him battling David West and holding him well below his averages in the 2013 playoffs.

and doesn't move without the ball
>either.

What does that have to do with playing PF?

Not to mention that Molo can't really play PF full
>time cause Dat Zingis is the future and Phil has enough sense
>to not turn him into a center to accommodate washed-up
>veterans like Molo.

He's versatile enough to play either SF or PF depending on who he's on the floor with. Positons don't matter, skill sets do. You post like a cat who jumps off the wrong foot on layups.

So now Molo has a real chance of being the
>weakest link in a line-up that features a PG with no knees
>who's facing criminal charges and a broken down Frenchman.

He led the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists last year. It won't stop you from wrongly claiming otherwise, but I'm sure he'll continue to play well. Skill set is still there.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

How the mighty agendas have fallen.

Remember when Carmelo was going to end his career with
no "patches?"

Won him a scoring title that next season.

Now we're clowning Carmelo as compared to scoring champions,
the most prestigious statistical achievement in the sport,
has been for decades

He won a scoring title.
