i'm as worried now about him playing gunshy as i am about him getting wrecked. both seem like distinct possibilities after like 5? minutes of preseason game action.

and dude shoulda slid 2 yards earlier.

dumb ass is gonna go back in and take a harder hit.

other thing that is weird to me is how much they're moving elliot around. let's not make this shit too complicated.

He tried to protect Romo on that hit

I saw him moving our D around the edge, up the middle & standing up Kam

but these dudes are clearly looking to mess someone up today, especially the ones that might need a turnover/decisive stop to help them make the team.

i don't want any important cowboys out on this field long tonight.

We will see about that. I haven't watched him play much, but he's apparently lighting it up. Of course, this is the preseason so defenses are keeping it vanilla. The knock on him coming out of college was his lack of arm strength and downfield accuracy. Has he improved there? If not, defenses will scheme him (lots of Tampa 2 - cover 2) and attack his weaknesses.

a lot of sports radio shows (not that I listen to much, but I've heard him mentioned a few times on various ESPN sports shows) and articles as of late. The #s look great. But again, it's preseason.

the td yesterday could have easily been an interception, and there have been a couple other times luck's broken his way.

overall, he's done some shit that is highly encouraging. the numbers are good, he's hitting pretty much everyone. he's worked against/with 1st teams and backups with the same results.

he's run two really good two minute drills. the one last night against a first-team seattle d...he got from mid-field after a holding penalty with like half a minute, converted the first, made some plays to get to field goal range, then got the spike without a penalty with 3 secs on the clock.

i think we all know that shit is not a guaranteed...especially in the nfl east these past five years. we all have had qbs and coaches that have choked on that.

and if he's taking a chance, he's taking chances on dez and witten and not as much on guys who might not go get it. or later when avoided a sack by overthrowing a double-covered beasley, but made sure it wasn't in a vulnerable spot.

do think the arm strength is an issue but it might not be as much of one as advertised, and if the rest keeps developing from where we are now, might be okay.

i'm not ready to anoint him yet. he has a lot to prove, but he definitely is going to stick in the league as a starter or qb2.

...and hyperbole. The guys posted a perfect passer
rating over two games and has acted like he owns the
offense between plays. That's some promising shit.

Sure, it's too early to crown him but in the futile
quest for a Cowboys heir to Romo, of course fans are
going to go buck wild over him after what he's been
showing.

You need to calm your tits about the reactions to him lol

I like the guy and hope he thrives in the NFL - just not for the Cowboys. He does look promising but I wonder about how his arm strength bc you can only mask that for so long.

Kam absorbed good contact and made the play.

but to Zeke's credit, he was running hard the whole time he was in. He powered into a few tackles for extra yards. so, if that was a knock either people were wrong or he's workin on it.

ion't like giving a seahawk too much credit, but i thought kam was fine consider the runner's "inertia" (LA2philly voice). elliot had a full head of steam and momentum, while kam was stationary and squared up. a lot of other safeties get flat-backed in that situation.

Or in other words, he understands it's all about pad level when it comes to having a stable base to create force at contact....in that play and the one where he bounced off Kam with a spin move, he's so low before contact which allows him to maintain his balance and deliver/absorb force effectively.

I was most impressed with his blocking in the backfield...I think Urban mentioned last year that he's the best backfield blocker he's ever seen, he's the best I've seen at this early of a stage.

a soon to be 37-year-old with recurring back problems shouldn't be on a NFL field.

Dallas doesn't save a ton of cap space by cutting him next season (it'd be $19 million in dead money), but that changes the year after. he can retire on his own terms now, or wait for his career to be officially over in March 2018.

i don't see any reason why we shouldn't play this season with house money and just make sure not to take any chances with guys that *will* be around in 2018, or mortgage draft picks on desperation.

they seem to got plenty in the wings that can play rb and fb. te too...though not many have witten's hands, he's not exactly a deep threat at this point.

and, on the other side, the defense doesn't look like it's going to scare anyone without at least 2-3 more pieces. there's only a few guys on d, i'd even mind losing a little bit.

i feel like i'm good with whatever romo does or doesn't do.

i feel like i'm fine with even rolling with dak and jameil showers. not gonna be worse than last season's backup qb bullshit. not gonna be worse than the abyss before romo.

if there's a dude out there with potential, sign him, whatever. but i don't want to see any more invested in retreads or reclamation projects.

feel bad for dude, cuz I really like him...but football ain't always happy ending shit. Not gonna act like I didn't have some optimism for this season, but I'm good, regardless. Can't tell another man when to hang it up, but I'd be fine if he did. Play this season out with who we got, maybe sign a cheap dude if there's one out there...let the dice stop where they stop. Low expectations.

There is little benefit to sliding and if you slide too late the door is open to you getting fucked up. The Rams WRs used to just dive on the ground head first to give themselves up and QBs should do the same.

You could probably do a half hour "Jack'd UP, QB Slide Edition" special that would be funny as shit though. Most of them would probably be RG III doing his aluminum foil impersonation.

I was looking forward to seeing a 1-3 year run with a few more pieces in place.. Not sure if Romo can comeback this year and be in good enough form to make anything happen but we'll see.

The injury this year + the excitement about Prescott kinda underscores one of the issues I've had for awhile which is having a young, QB developing in the wings. If not as a replacement for Romo at the very least a capable backup.

Now Dak has to fly or die which unfortunately leads to far more failures that successes unless they go grab a C- minus vet off the streets to lead us so a sub .500 record.

In the end it looks like another wasted year but lets see how it plays out.

feel bad for Romo...but...this is really what we needed early to see if Dak is the real deal....i wouldve hated for Romo to play 8 games and get hurt..and Dak come in under pressure...this way he comes in early against team stilll ironing out their own wrinkles in the first few games...hopefully we can snag a few games...zeke looked good too....
