We have arguably the best and most deep D-Line in the NFL and a top 3 safety tandem. Hicks is the real deal and if Kendricks can ever play to his full potential we could have a very, very dominant defense. I'm still shaky on our CBs which could give us trouble.
Still, this team has holes at critical areas. Like I said, CB is a big ?. Our OL is already decimated with Lane's 10 game suspension. They're just an injury away from being a complete disaster - and we know Jason Peters ain't gonna start and finish all 16 games. Also, our WRs have yet to really prove themselves. Also, we have no real 3 down back behind the oft injured Ryan Matthews.
Still think this is a sub par to .500 team with our ceiling 10-6.

I still think we are at least one corner away on defense but I still marvel at how many bad decisions Chip Kelly made including playing a 3-4 with the personnel we had.

the pieces in place to run a high powered defense. Billy Avis sucked and was undeserving of his role, but he was probably one of the few guys Chip could convince to carry out his plans.
We had guys like Vinny Curry just wasting away on the bench while Damian fucking' Square got serious tick. What a freakin' joke. You had guys like Cox, Bennie Logan, Vinny Curry, Brandon Graham, and Connor Barwin who are ideal fits in a 4-3 (well, lone exception being Barwin, but he's good in any system). We lacked depth at LB but that didn't matter to Chip. But yet, we just had to run the 3-4, because that's what he wanted.
All I have to say is thank God the Dolphins drafted Dion Jordan and Howie didn't allow Chip to give up the farm for Mariota. Then he really would have destroyed this team.

pretty much, I'll say those things and picking up the two Saints Jenkins & Sproles on the cheap were pretty much the only solid transactions he made in three years.

Otherwise, really not much there. His hubris was most apparent on our interior O-line...what a shit show that was (and Demarco is showing that he is far from done when he actually has a halfway capable line).
The play of the interior was certainly in question the first two games this year but they showed exponential improvement vs Pittsburgh...yet another testament to this staff. Now if only Lane can somehow get off this suspension....

Cannot get off the field on third down including numerous 3rd and longs, inconsistent pressure from the front 4, multiple mistakes and penalties in coverage, stupid penalties by the front 4, and poor tackling.
With Minnesota in town next weekend, we really need to get it together or we will be 3-3.

Clean pockets to step into all game. Many of the mistakes in coverage today came from Jenkins playing with poor technique and getting turned around or hesitating (the biggest ones being on Crowder's TD, Davis's TD, and Davis's chunk reception). If you're allowing a QB to have a clean pocket and get into a rhythm, the majority of secondaries are going to get beat. I mean today was case in point...no coincidence that Wentz has his worst game after we lose Lane (what a fucking dummy) and the only real mistake of the game for Cousins comes after a great play and pressure by Marcus Smith on outside contain.
You have to make a QB uncomfortable especially on known passing downs like third and long...the other issue is the front 4 got completely eaten up in the run game so we're playing off-balance the rest of the game.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO pressure on Cousins until sometime in the 2nd half when they started making things a bit more uncomfy.
Two straight weeks we give up 20+ before being able to improve in the 2nd half. How can we go back to 4 quarters of effort & actually tackling someone. Those yards after 1st contact is maddening.
And can we please stop with the mindless penalties? *sigh*

Nice to see after their dreadful performance last week. Graham continues his monster year. Hicks played great, they got after Sleeves all day. Carson obviously didn't have his best game, but he was playing against the best defense in the league and he hung in there and made enough plays to win. He's impressive even when he's not impressive.
